Well done Gary! I still haven't caught those suckers yet! And that really big one! That river is huge too! It must be a nice area for those bows to hold over.

Thanks Jared! It was a little strange fishing that river but the low water made it pretty easy to wade. Now that I know plenty of rainbows survive the winter, I’m not sure if I’d be motivated to go back any time soon. Lots of other unexplored water to check out!

Wow, lots of fish. Not a bad day in mid March. What length line are you typically using? I notice that you and Dre are often hand lining the fish in on the last couple videos. I'd that just for range, or have they become spooky in low clear water for example?

Thanks! I typically use a level line between the length of the rod and up to 3 ft longer, mostly for casting range and contingent on the tightness of the cover (it does help when they’re spooky too). On this day, since we were on a relatively wide open river, I was using 450 cm (about 15 ft) of #3 with my 390 cm HELLbender.

@@tenkaraintheiowadriftless thanks I've got the Nirvana 400 and I find that with anything longer than say rod tip +3 feet I really lose accuracy and strike detection capability. I also tend to lose more flies in trees!

That is not a carp. That is a sucker.

Yeah, you’re right! I started looking at his dorsal fin after-the-fact and realized something wasn’t quite right. I’d never seen a sucker that big before and it fooled me. Good eye!
