OU played with back up tackles and one guard, 5 WRs out and a RB injured on offense alone so injures happen.

The field really was terrible!! We all kept talking about how bad it was the whole first half. It's like they made it really slick somehow & then put some sticky spray on Ok's cleats so they wouldn't slide the way Tennessee was

But to the original comment, if I as a player was on the Tennessee defense, sure my coach may make more conservative calls, but I’m not letting anyone score on me. Hawkins was way more decisive and like 4 steps ahead of Arnold pre snap. Not sure how it would’ve gone if he would’ve started and played the whole game, but he didn’t turn the ball over. That’s the biggest thing to me. Jackson gave Tennessee 3 extra possessions himself. Turned a touchdown into a fumble. Another time he basically gave Tennessee a free first down with his immediate fumble. That interception was not a play made by Tennessee, he threw them the ball. Tennessee is definitely going far and maybe into the semi finals or national championship, but the OU defense played really well and did not allow the run game to become very successful. Even played a light box and saw success. Ou defense will keep them in games. The question now is if the offense will have any signs of life moving forward. Is this how auburn feels this season?

Eventually you need to get rid of the jitters by playing guys that havent played. There is nothing wrong with swapping QBs when they are both young. 1 is a sophomore and the other a freshman. The more both of them play, the more sound OU will be in a couple years.

To be fair, he didn't really get that fresh look from Tennessee. Heupel backed off the pedal and he scored late in the 4th quarter against a gassed defense. Tennessee has a ridiculous defense. Great game. Welcome to the SEC! You guys have a stellar defense and that Hawkins kid is legit.

Wrong. Hawkins was TERRIBLE in the 3rd quarter and 2nd quarter. When TN went into a prevent he started to play well when he has all day to throw. Negative ball knowledge.

Do you know OUs schedule? Good luck with that. OU still play 4 teams in the top-10 and 3 of those teams are top-5. I am impressed with OU. They looked good compared to what I expected to see. They will get there. You need to play tougher teams to get better and that is definitely happening since they left the SOFT 12 Conference. Tennessee definitely has the #1 Defense. Y’all might be the 3rd best D though, in all honesty. Still need to see Texas play someone with a pulse before that’s official, because UGA UT are pretty much interchangeable at 1/2 on D right now, & Ole Miss is looking like they may have something to say about the pecking order too this year. We get it, it stings to lose to a superior team; we’ve dealt with it entirely too much over the past 17-18 years. However, that’s no longer the case. Thank god for the Sooners tho, cause they kicked Heupel to the curb, & ultimately led him to find his forever home. We greatly appreciate the honorable service Bob Stoops provided for us, that was very kind of him to scapegoat Heup back in 2014; everything worked out perfectly!💪 Go Vols!!!

We kept the clock running and you never got within a score of us. Seriously? That's called smart coaching. Your backup had 13 carries for 22 yards. We made sure no big plays would happen and won comfortably while protecting our qb from the very good OU D while we were running our 3rd string tackles out there to get beat over and over.

Tennessee held OU to under 100 yards total until the 4th! OU got those trash points to make it seem like it was closer than it really was.

We had 2nd and 3rd string tackles that couldn't protect nico, which is why we ran more. Couldn't block long enough to give nico time to throw. We also played conservative the second half.

I guess playing a top 15 team on the road and going up 19-3 at halftime, forcing them to bench their qb for a true freshman, then playing conservatively on offense while leaning on elite defense for 2 quarters doesn’t cut it. But if tn would’ve beat them 52-3 the narrative wouldn’t have been that tn dominated a good team but that ou is no good.

Nope, it was pretty dominant. Tennessee was super conservative in the second half and it still would have taken a miracle for Oklahoma to win. OU never led. Never really threatened Tennessee and Heupal didn't try to score in the second half because he knew Oklahoma couldn't score. Which was true until it didn't matter. Oklahoma is good, they have a good venue, but Tennessee was never in jeopardy of losing this game.
