He's always ran this simplified half field offense. It's not a bad thing other than the sacks you're going to give up. It'll stay similar to what they ran in 2021

@@vincentlemons1711 8th worst in the nation. When you only have 2 or 3 routes it's gonna happen a lot. Hooker should negate some of that this year with quicker scrambles, but it's always gonna be high in that offense.

If we can average 40 points a game, I don't care that much about the sacks. Let us get 25% better on defense and we will compete with anyone.

And make's a lot of sense plus if you notice homerun threat receivers are often injury prone in the NFL in this scheme is probably what the NFL should adapt because you got to keep defenses honest and not allow them to just jump the underneath routes...

It is the art briles offense. Jeff Lebby, Briles’s son in law and his running backs coach at baylor, taught him the majority of the offense at UCF, and Heupel never let it go. He had already begun using some of it while at Oklahoma, Utah State, and Missouri to various levels of success. Namely the vertical choice. Lebby just taught him all the tags and the tempo portion of it.

Sometimes simple is better! It’s fun to watch for the average fan too

Many of these same things (wide receiver splits, very fast no huddle, receivers taking plays off when they know they aren’t getting the ball) was done by Art Briles and all the great Baylor offenses

Wouldn’t you agree that skilled players Consult their high school coach and people with knowledge before committing to a University to play football. Tennessee is in 7th place in the Nation and 2nd in the SEC in this years class. I don’t think all those people agree with you. I don’t agree with you. Heupel offense is some what new to the SEC East. His speed of play which is 3 plays per minute. Our Opponents aren’t used to. And it’s very hard for them to practice for us. They faked injuries last year so they could substitute. This year rules are different. Yes we score quick sometimes. And yes the offense and defense has more plays per game. So that personal stats are high and their ability to play more here on this team is higher. So when and if they go to the NFL their stats has them in good shape. Last year our depth was horrible because we lost 30 players in the portal, and we played without trying to replace them so we wouldn’t get hit hard from the NCAA violations and it worked that is behind this team. They’re only going after the ones involved and none of them are on the team. Our depth has improved from last year and got help for the defense from the portal. This year they will go in spurts where we run three plays a minute and then slow it down. Now I am not telling you we are in the running for a National Championship this year. We will probably win 8 or 9 wins. We will loose to Alabama and Georgia, the Pittsburgh game and LSU are possible and we might get one of them. Not being ranked right now is a good thing. Cause that would be to much pressure on a young team. We are better this year. And I feel we have the right system in place. Hell even if we were to come up with a great game plan and beat Georgia or Alabama we would be a lucky team not Necessarily from skilled but that happens every year some where. I am excited that we will give everyone we play a Competitive game. You can call our offense gimmick all you want. I want wins and I not looking to please you with style points. Or weather we look Moncho or not. A win is a win. Leave the name calling out of our conversation. Talk to me like you would your Mom or Dad.

In the big picture of college football, 8-4 average means lots of pressure on the staff to perform or change at major schools that have tasted success at the highest level, and a lot of people get fired at a 6/7 wins over and over even with a few double digit seasons in there. Michigan, Notre Dame, and Florida are strong examples of that pressure.. To be competitive in the SEC, or the big boys in general means being in the running for the playoff.

That and the spacing. You have to think as fast as they go and you're already at a disadvantage not knowing what they'll run. It's such a fun offense to watch when everything's working

Let’s be serious, Bama almost lost 4 different teams last season. And Bamas whole team came back minus 4 players. Georgia game was never really in doubt knowing how they play. Grantham and Florida handled Vols scoreless an entire half. The 3 teams that actually matter gave up 14,17,24 points respectively; well below the 40 pts ran up everyone else that doesn’t have a great defense.

@@calvinblack9459 "Knowing how they play?". They play D dependent offense, also evidenced is who their starting QB is. Not a guy that is NFL bound and not a dynamic offense. Zero points scored against Clemson and their offensive stats are against 90% unranked teams. Look who UGA's OC is. Todd is the same guy that while at Tampa in his last year said getting Brady would be the biggest mistake Tampa could make. The year after he left, Brady and Tampa win the Superbowl. It's been decades since Monken had success in college football as a OC and even worse record as a college head coach. The more you lose on a team, the better you better be offensively to offset the departures. I have little faith UGA's offense is just going to become dynamic. In the SECCG, they had no answer offensively. If a team is good enough to score against UGA with a dynamic offense, UGA loses 99% of the time because they can't answer with a similar offense. Ole Miss, UK had very good D's and TN ran it up. TN still scored how much on Bama?? Your last point makes no sense in relation to TN. Also, Hooker didn't start against UF, and half the offense was re-shuffled after the UF game. UF got worse as the season went along. TN got UF's best game of the literal season. If they played in November, TN wins by 3 scores against that team. TN went from 109th offensively to 7th with a 71 thin team, after being gutted of 30 commits and players. If it wasn't for the offensive scheme of CJH and staff this team would have gone 3-9 or 4-8. Bama literally used TN's offense in the SECCG. Because after the Auburn game, Saban knew he had no other options. And with missing so many starters in the natty game, he could not run the same offensive as he did in the SECCG. But UGA wasn't exactly scoring at will in the natty game either. The game was a lot closer than the sore and UGA's D was the key, not the offense.

@@calvinblack9459 The UGA halftime score against UK was a 7 point game. Why? The UK D stopped the UGA run and therefore UGA struggled in that game. TN scored over 40 on UK and UGA struggled to get anywhere neat against Bama and how many points did UGA score in the SECCG? How many did they score against Clemson offensively? 0. TN outscored UGA against SC, Mizzou, UK and their matchup with Bama. TN also played better offensive teams or more of them. Ole Miss, Purdue, Pitt.. UGA easily could have lost to anyone of those three teams. Or at least one of them imo. Also more importantly TN score not only more in many of those common foe games but much more quickly. With less D this year and that same offense, minus some experienced players, I see the potential for a big UGA struggle against TN, Oregon and a few others. Maybe even UK. The 2021 team wasn't the 17 team that was more dynamic and better on both sides of the ball. No one is bragging about the UGA offense and haven't been. Been all about the D because the offense is D dependent.

@@gwhite7136 Knowing how they play is Georgia doesn't start off hot. They break you over the course of the game and they did just that. Even Pruitt's team did that against UGA.And it doesn't matter that they don't have a future NFL QB at the helm. He just has to be good enough to get the job done, which he has been. Keeps defenders honest with his legs and will make people pay. He hits deep balls enough and has good receivers to not sleep on that realm. O-line doesn't shoot themselves in the foot and the RBs run hard. Defense suffocates you and gives offense time to score but that's their identity and it works, allowed 17 to Vols. It was 24-10 at half time. 24.. that's it. That's all they could score on Bama, who ran away in the 4th qtr. That said Bama again, almost lost 4 times this past season, rare feat. 114 is all they could score on UF. Hooker not playing is Heupel's fault. When Florida has Franks in 19 and lost him to injury, Trask was ready to step in and lead comeback. Vols couldn't do the same.

@@calvinblack9459 Yes, break you over the course of the game, by ground D. That's my point. UGA does not play where the offense dictates the speed or tempo of the game because of their scheme. That scheme gets you a result like the SECCG against elite offenses with decent lines, even with so so D's. If UGA is going to win consistently against those teams, they have to revamp the offense to something more modern. Pruitt's offense was the issue. The TN D's were upper SEC. But when you start to flail as an offense, your D starts losing the possession war and eventually, it leads to game being broken open late. But even the best ground D's sooner or later, if they can't match foe's offensive, they lose. Case and point, UGA vs LSU 2019 SECCG. Bama and UF in 2020 did this to UGA also. "He has to be good enough to get the job done". Son, that is living on borrowed time and fools gold. We've seen have happens when UGA has to play an elite or very good offense who simply wins the shootout and piles on.. The above mentioned are perfect games of that. Twenty-four was more than you could score on Bama's D in the SECCG. All TN needed was a bit more depth and it was year one.. otherwise TN could have easily beaten Bama last year. When you have depth issues like TN had last year, no team can keep that damn from breaking after 100 snaps. Not even UGA. You have to look at the game as a whole, not the last 6 mins. TN scheme worked on Bama and quite well. The D was the weak point. But all game long, the D kept Bama from pulling much ahead.. We even had the lead for part of the game and it was only a one score game before our lack of depth caught up with us and the number of our D possessions. Both coaches knew for TN it was D depth and the above mentioned. But Saban wasn't lost on how TN played and is freaking out about how much TN has risen in one year, as well as our 23 recruiting class. 2nd or 3rd in the SEC, 8 to 10th nationally depending on which media you look at. We still crystal for some 5 stars and some 4's for the 23 class. Hooker not playing is CJH fault? That does not matter in stats sir. The fact is he played three less games and didn't start till after UF. This was when we made the most changes because it was our first SEC game. And Joe Milton may never play another down at TN.. This is why I think the TN and UGA game is a game UGA could lose. The UGA drop off is a sure as the sun rising, but how much is the question. You haven't been this green in a long time. And the SEC east probably hasn't been this good in a few years as a whole, or potentially so. UK, TN, SC, possibly even Mizzou all improved. Even with our bad D last year, we sacked SB how many times? Plus, we still were able to run on you last year and I expect an easier time doing that this year with all your changes on D. This only opens up the passing game more for us. I will know more about UGA after the Oregon game.

I’d say it’s a system that’s successful. I worry about the idea that they can run routes on one side and get away with it. What concerns me more is Heupels ability to improve a roster. He’s doing well in recruiting but can he translate that to the field?

I feel like half the stuff Heupel does would be called "genius" if Saban or Lane Kiffen were the ones doing it. It would go from "gimmick" to "cutting-edge" in a heartbeat. Imagine if you are a DB thats amped up about trying to mirror your guy wide open down the field and then he just stands there....talk about a mind fu*k. By the time he realized his man isn't going anywhere is about the same time he realized the play just happend behind him. So you could call it lazy...or you could say that you just took two defenders out of the play and opened up the backfield for someone to get thrown open in. Not being able to slow down and depth are Tennessee's biggest issues. They are recruiting well right now and I think they will evolve to be able to feather the gas a little better in the future.

people see it as 1 trick pony bc they go fast. but Huepel and company knows how to get matchups they want, plus going fast. it's deadly. they know how to manipulate defenses.

I think they do it to give the "off side" receivers a breather, yes. But they also do it to open up that side of the field. If one side's WRs loiter near the LOS, their defenders have to stay with them, at least for a couple of seconds. So...wide open behind them. Good breakdown, Joe!

Did he have all of those guys from that undefeated team back..? UCF caught lighting in a bottle with like 9-10 NFL kids, they left and heupel still lead the nation in offensive yards, your not hiring him for his defensive prowess which is why UCF has a bad record

Dude, Heupel has been running this offense since he was the OC at Missouri, maybe even sooner. You’re just mad because now that he’s at Tennessee he can pull ELITE 5 star talent.

Dumb players? I guess that's why Saban only runs at least 6-8 different versions of Cover 1, runs Cover 3/6 which is almost a whole defensive system in itself, Cover 7 (man match quarters) which is also pretty much a whole defensive system in itself, Cover 5 (man match cover 2), Cover 8 (zone match quarters), Cover 2 zone match, 3 different types of run fits (max, solo, and ball fits) scattered across those different coverages as different coverages in his system require fitting the run in different ways, a bunch of different fronts including 34 and 42 fronts (both use two completely different philosophies), jimmy/pony, fire zones and blitzes, stunts, etc.
