Speaking of Lynchburg, and where Jack Daniels is made, did you know Jack Daniels meets all the requirements to be called a bourbon. However, I believe the underlying reason that Tennessee won’t allow it to be called bourbon because bourbon originated out of Kentucky and specifically in an area referred to as Bourbon Kentucky, and because of a small rivalry, the state of Tennessee at one point said even though it has all the elements to be called, Bourbon, such as Tennessee bourbon, they insisted that it be referred to as Tennessee whiskey. Now we know that all bourbon is technically whiskey but, not all whiskey is bourbon, because of its Mashville. However, Jack Daniels meets the Mashville of a bourbon, but still calls itself a Tennessee whiskey. interesting to say the least…

Nice video. One small correction. Cowan is pronounced like the farm animal COW, and not Co. That museum is rather nice for what it is with a great model train setup to represent the area. There is another great museum on the Alabama side of the mountain in Stevenson, but best of all is the unclaimed baggage center, where you can buy just about anything at deep discount prices down the road in Scottsboro. I've hiked up the mountain to where the trains go into the tunnel on both sides.
The mural in Winchester with the lady standing next to the car is that of Dinah Shore, I believe. Chevrolet was the sponsor of her 1950s TV show ("See the U.S.A. in Your Chevrolet"). The next mural of "Winchester S.A. Shore Department store" is a reference to the store that Dinah's father started. I don't believe that the store was in Winchester, though.
Loved this program. I didn't mind that you werent able to get into the assorted museum buildings. The lovely chance to see the trains up close, the Texaco station interior was just as grand. Thanks for the great shots in Cowan. Very good!! The remaining towns were just as wonderful. 😊

That train was literally our playground and my grandfather used to voulunteer at the museum since we lived right across the street so awesome you visited there
Winchester is my hometown, grew up there. Nice sleepy town, it has its problems - like any other town - but I like it better than many other places I've seen in this world.
I was married to a girl from 9 generations in Franklin county Tn. If you’re from around here we pronounce it like bovine: Cow…. Cow on RR tracks😂, and yes I know it was named for a historical man and not a bovine on the tracks.

Loved the old train and log cabin. The old Texaco was cool, too. I have taken the Jack Daniel's Distillery tour. My favorite part was the barrel room. I also thought the part where they fan the barrel lid and when you breathe in, you can 'taste' the whiskey. Cool tour! Nice trip. I'm not far away from there, just over the line in AL.
Your tour of the Distillery was heartwarming: a long established, still bustling American institution still producing a globally appreciated resource. It was gratifying to be shown and reminded that we still make something of real worth and we export it across the world. One of the esteemed birth places of American whiskey and yet the product cannot be bought in that very place-only in America!
It used to be a dry town it's not technically dry anymore all the gas stations sell beer. I think you can buy whiskey at Jack Daniels but it's considered a souvenir type thing so they get away with it but it's cheaper just to buy up the road in Tullahoma.

I spent my childhood in and around Winchester in the 60’s and 70’s. Family is all still there and I get home as often as I can. Winchester has a beautiful town square. Great videos.

Many years ago when I was a young mother, I found a request form for some old Jack Daniels labels for whiskey bottles. They were free upon request and after all these years I still have them in a firebox. Thank you Jack Daniels!

I was in Cowan a couple weeks ago, the Mexican restaurant you parked in front of is awesome! Tennessee has some great small towns and beautiful scenery.
The steam locomotive on display is Cherokee Brick Company 2-4-2 number 1 and hails from North Carolina and definitely NOT representative of the "pusher" locomotives used in that area but still makes for a great display. Great video, liked it much.

This area is basically my back yard, as I live just across the state line in Alabama. It's my favorite weekend motorcycle riding area- lots of peaceful backroads to explore around Winchester to Lynchburg. Like others have stated, it would have been worth your while to travel the few miles up the mountain to Sewanee. That whole area is amazing.
It's not like what you described all the time. Come back in June July and August 100% humidity. The air so thick, it stays hazy. Oh the lyme ticks and mosquitoes aren't in short demand. The winters are Gray and cold. Spring is Tornado season.
After all, it is the most distracting, relaxing thing to have an audience of this video accompanied by your narration. This places are very special and authentic. You accomplished it very cool.

I had to laugh seeing the air-noodle guy in the park, I instantly thought of Better Call Saul. I think the "pink car" mural must be a nod to Dinah Shore's "See the USA" Chevrolet commercial. If youre ever in the area again I would recommend checking out Sewanee, The University of the South. Super pretty campus with tons of history and some cool views off the side of the plateau.
Looks like Cowan TN. I've been there a few times, nice area and mountain scenes, Monteagle, Sewanee and its university, Lynchburg, Cascade Hollow and George Dickel, these towns are nice to see in the Spring and fall.

My friend, I have a suggestion for you. When you visit a small town ask a local how to pronounce the name. Cowan, Cow-wan or close to it. That's ok i mispronounce names I am unfilliar with
I lived in Elizabethton tn. Where i was in middle school with my older sister. Her daughter lived on roane mt. And i have to say of all the places i've lived and theres been quite a few because of my work, Tennessee is definitely the most beautiful!!
I'm watching this from Slovenia. We have plenty of vinyards and wine cellars around, but not much whiskey-making although there are local schnapps distillers (not the sweet liqueur but 60-80 proof spirits fermented from plums or pears). I wonder if that could be aged it might take on sweet whiskey aromas similar to bourbon or japanese Yamazaki. I haven't tasted JD in ages, cause I usually go with Jim Beam, but I might buy it now. Great video!
The preserved gas station in Cowan featured on the thumbnail reminds me of Gas, a painting by the great American artist Edward Hopper. It made a pleasant change to see lively downtown areas in Winchester and Lynchburg.

People who used to run the Crossville Military History Museum (? I think that's what it was called) were very knowledgeable on the topic, including one German immigrant who talked to my wife and I at length about that camp. Not sure if it's still there or if the same people are overseeing it. Crossville is a cool town though.
The courthouse in my wife’s town of, Marshfield, MO, was built around the same time and is in this style, also, the one in downtown, KCMO, is in this style.

Winchester is a bit different to the one in England, New Deal court house and the cinema, in fact all the town centre has character. When you say crime, what does that include, petty theft, muggings, burglary ...or is it instances reported to the police? Being an English bastard, getting a punch on the nose is not something we would bother mentioning but a bit of a kicking and having your wallet taken is. Like the street art and then you flash up the white house with balconies and a turret corner, nice! Lynchburg and JD's headstone does not have a picture of Keith Richards anywhere near it and that's the only reason we know of JD. Nice cemetery by the way with whisky barrels. I have a question, do the plots get allocated by the next one or do they pick a plot? Nice courthouse and carving for the man cave. The biggest laugh is that due to some strange laws you can't buy a shot in the county, no hard liquor, must upset some of the ladies - think English bastard . Another question, why do the bars have dollar bills stuck to the walls and ceiling? Another enthralling episode and thank you for the front row seat it looks rather beautiful. If the average income is about $18,000 a year, they must have some low rents and cheap houses. Up here in Canada, im making $55,000 a year and can barely afford a small 1 bedroom apartment where i live.

So sad to see some of the States you visit having once upon a time beautiful homes, productive factories, shops and schools now going to ruin and decay having been abandoned. The fact that a lot of your videos show nobody walking around says it al! !! Hopefully, in the future, restoration projects could be done as some of those building could still be saved. America is a fascinating country, it has everything and I have always wanted to visit and tour but at 62 and living in Dublin, Ireland I doubt I will ever get there !!
