Everyone needs to hear this is an unbelievable performance I’ve heard it a dozen times and I can’t get tired of it. I am at 74-year-old man and I dig it. The young man is moderating this notice things about it that I had not noticed is that run on the Oregon that guitarist in the background and I love those horns that’s the way to reproduce it as he suggested it would be a hit by itself.
These 2 have been friends for a while now and the producer of the cma’s didn’t want to give Stapleton a performance spot bc his songs weren’t on the radio so he asked what if I got jt to do it too and so they gave him this long spot 😂 kudos to jt for helping his buddy out bc Chris blew up after this and rightfully so!!
stephanie vangossen yes he did. His manager told this story on a podcast I listen to. They were shocked at how many but he was big in Nashville bc of his song writing for other country artists
It’s a cool story. And it really made a difference. I know I didn’t know who he was until that night. And he got album of the year. That just blew my mind.

JT's wife hired Chris to perform at JT's birthday party--that's how they met. JT thought Chris was so talented he got him to collaborate on a song & the rest is history.
Loved your reaction dude! I watched this on TV the night it aired. I paused the dvr, called my wife downstairs and said.... "I think I just saw the best live performance I've ever seen." We go to about 20-30 concerts a year together and re-watched it 5 times back to back right then. Unreal.
This is also why the CMAs are awesome. ALL of the audience views, are other world famous country artists. They root for each other, and genuinely enjoy their fellow artists music.

I read an article about this performance. The article said that they hired a gospel band to play in the background. So you hit the nail on the head. This is one of the best performances I've ever heard!
I love your genuine reaction to this. I felt the same way. My chin was on the floor for days afterward. Actually it still is. I revisit this performance often. Didn't seem like an awards show performance, felt like a concert. One of the best, if not THE best, I've ever seen/heard. I was already a JT fan but this put Chris on the map. Now he's my favorite artist of all time. Talk about a soulful performance, check RU-vid for a video (I think was on a cruise ship or something) when he was with the Steel Drivers. This was way before Chris donned his signature hat and contacts. He's wearing glasses and a black tee, sitting down, singing his heart out. Song is called 'Fool Me Again '... He looked like one of my cousins Dungeons and Dragons playing buddies back then (no offense to them, or Chris). Like I said, no Don Williams inspired hat or tailored jackets or anything. Just Chris, and his pure, core awesomeness. He's truly amazing, as a singer, musician, songwriter, entertainer, friend, Husband and dad (according to the people who know him, on those last 3). A great dude, and I feel that we're all blessed by his presence. Thank you for getting outside your wheelhouse and giving Chris a chance. I truly enjoyed your review (this one and the TN Whiskey one). I was born and raised in TN, and for those that don't know, most people are referring to Jack Daniels when speaking of TN Whiskey. Also, in JT's song 'Drink You Away ' I've heard people repeat the lyric as "I've tried Jack, I've tried Gin ..." but it's not that. It says "I've tried Jack, I've tried Jim (as in Jim Beam whiskey) and all of their friends..." Play on words, using Liquor names as first names of " friends "... Calling these liquors with proper names" friends". Sorry if I'm over explaining. I have ADHD and have trouble staying focused. I apologize. Best reaction I've seen from you. And of all the reactions I've seen, you are the only one to acknowledge Chris Stapleton's powerful, straight from a higher power, primal scream towards the end of the song. As hard as I'm, concerned it made the whole song. You're also the only one who pointed out the church influences. JT is not above finding a choir or church organist to enhance his performance so I definitely give you props for that.

This performance in 2015 is what introduced me to Chris Stapleton. Where had I been? 🤷♂️ Love his voice. When I first saw him I was like who’s this guy? And then he started singing... wow... And Justin Timberlake can literally do anything… he’s like king Midas… Everything he touches is gold
Glad to see you react to this performance. I was anti country my whole life and my brother (who is all country) turned me on to this performance shortly after it aired. I then realized I am not anti country I'm anti bad music, and this my friend is far from bad music. Now I'm a Stapleton fan.
I play guitar, and I used to be a music snob when it came to Justin T a few years ago, but if you have ears and still believe he's just average, you're deaf, and I can see you know your stuff. Good music is good music, talent is talent. Great informed reaction.
First time checking your reactions out. Loved it. I've seen quite a few reactions to this performance. You are the first to react to the organ. I didn't even really until you mentioned it. It added another layer to the performance. It was like having church! New subscriber!
Mini Bio: ---Chris was a extremely well known prolific songwriter long before his association with Justin Timberlake. His songwriting hits for famous singers was/is impressive. Chris enjoys his musical freedom. With all his own hits he still only has made few music videos. He does mainly live performances and is one of the very very few singers that can perform without technical voice/music support and sound better than in the studio. That's called REAL (RAW) music. Chris was co-writing the song "Say Something" and the album "Man of the Woods" with JT when he was asked to perform it with him. Other notable singers that come to Chris for songs are: Adele, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, Alison Krauss, Josh Turner, Sheryl Crow, Joss Stone, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Brooks & Dunn, Travis Tritt, and more. He has been in 2 bands (Steeldrivers & The Jompson Bro.) and has been a winner of Country Music Awards. I watched him on a Joe Rogan podcast and he is a shy and humble guy. Joe tried to get him to gossip about others but he is a master of deflection and refused to talk dirt on anyone. An all round trustworthy guy but extremely aggressive about his music. People think he is a late bloomer but he actually likes control over his music. It was his wife that persuaded him to go further into the industry.
Another fun fact: JT was fangirling on Chris so much that JT's wife invited Chris to sing at JT's birthday so JT could meet him. He and Justin have been friends ever since. Some think Justin is riding a rising star but IMO there is no agenda there. They both have mutual respect for each others talent and like to perform together.
