One thing I remember about this match is that in the press lead up to the tournament, Jana said in an interview that Graf did not have a slice backhand drop shot. The part of the quote I remember "you either have it or you don't" and Graf didn't. Graf hit a ton of slice backhand drop shot winners in this match. I know that was intentional and it was hilarious.
Jana had a mental block playing Graf ever since the 93 Wimbledon debacle. She had 3 wins and they had a lot of tough 3 setters the 2 years leading up to that. Compare that to Seles who she was always confident vs and played tough, even in their pre stabbing matches.
@@rolandgreen7484 I might argue that Jana's block against Graf goes even earlier than that. If you look at their matches in 1989 and 1990, Jana seemed almost resigned to losing all of the time. She turned that around in 1991 and 1992. But it came back after 1993. And yes, Jana always looked much more comfortable against Seles. Jana did another big choke job against Seles at the 1992 year ending championships after being up 6-3, 3-0.

I thought Davenport got the US Open bonus because she won all her hard court titles preceding US open like Clijsters did in 2005. I guess she lost to Graf in her final tuneup to the US Open.
