Dude this is so true. Came to tennis in 2017 (was a D1 track athlete a long time ago) and I started on the court with cross trainers. My wife (who played through college) told me I needed "real tennis shoes". I went to a tennis shop and put on a pair, they felt so heavy and stiff. But I bought them and after a couple hours on the court I couldn't believe how much better I could move on the court (lateral movement, change of direction...) Then one day, I went out to play with my daughter (HS player) and suddenly I felt like I was going to roll an ankle, the shoes felt squishy and unstable. Then I realized: I'd forgotten to change to my tennis shoes. Good message Nate!
Got a pair of New Balance 2 WXY shoes that are designed for basketball. Bought them as they were similar to a pair worn by Tommy Paul and I’ve got to be honest, they work perfectly on an indoor hard court!
Best video on RU-vid to differentiate running shoes vs tennis shoes explained in depth and clarity! You save all the ankles of tennis players who dont realise these shoes difference and other videos do not address. Btw why do u kick n throw up your shoes? To demonstrate what opinion? I have 2 times wear unsuitable sports shoes n it flew off my foot while i exercising. I will be buying tennis shoes this week after this video.
When I started playing last year, I wore my Adidas Sambas. My legs and knees were so swollen that afternoon. I made sure I got some real shoes made for tennis and now have 7 pairs.
There's a lot of great tennis shoes on the market now that feel more like a light weight running shoe. Babolat Jetts, Adidad Adizeros just to name a few. Check em out!

It really depends how often you're playing and if your looking for a more durable shoe or a light weight / more comfortable shoe. I'm currently a big fan of the Wilson Rush's and the Asic Gel Resolutions
