I watch this video many times to remind me of the steps and as I practice I incorporate all the steps and my kick serve slowly improves also I enjoy the process even though I probably bore my tennis friends at times but they are/ will be impressed with my consistent powerful topspin serve. Thanks for your clear insightful professional instruction👌

I find the slob is a very effective attacking shot against less able players. I go for maximum spin and good height. First, it hangs in the air making it difficult to judge. Second, the spin often causes the player to net the return. Third, the bounce is crazy, especially on macadam courts.

wait a second, when you explain turning the top hand clock-wise you are showing taking that top hand to a continental. The semi-western would be counter clockwise (if from your perspective, clockwise from the perspective of someone looking at you) and you would be getting under the racquet more. Either way, visually, it appears you are moving your wrist the wrong way and toward a continental / continental. I'm about 100% of this and teach alot of students those two grips for the non-dominant hand.

As a 9 year old I learned on wood dunlop maxply, heavy, gripsize 5. As a 13 year old i switched to dunlop max 200g. Also heavy (about 360g) grip size 4 (still too much, but back in the days recommendation), about 85sq. I loved it still and my game was topspin although that particular raquet was at all not made for this type of game. My right arm became a monster with these sticks! I stopped playing at about age 20. Recently, 30 years later, i picked up tennis again during vacation: 104sq, 280g, headlight, gripsize 2. What can i say, i had such a blast! Much easier to handle but still stable. And much easier topspin. I guess us older guys learned on completely wrong specs and damaged our small bones and muscles. But that's the only thing there was, except prince, which we all hated. It was either wilson pro staff or dunlop in my club, or head prestige. All extreme players raquets, compared to todays standards. Oh, and string tension was much higher back than usually. But a blast we had.

People lose to "weaker" opponents because they're not as good as they like to think they are.
@maxpowers3732

What I noticed is I tend to mirror the intensity and level of my opponent... so with a weaker one I'm often flat footed and don't go for shot. Again better players I move well and for after the ball. I find it really hard to move my feet against a guy that looks lethargic. Also, at 3:45 I think a purple haired opponent would freak me out so much I'd just give up before the match.

Very valuable! Thanks! Q: any tips for getting total focus? How do you spend your 25 seconds between points? I.e., when you go to the 'lounge' do you have a few patterns you go through before you leave for the hall and go out again to play? (That mental process you taught us has really helped! THANKS!) And, did you really mean to say by inference that if we get a ball down the line we should most ofter play back down the line, or were you thinking more about cross court rallies? You are really appreciated!!!!

Thanks really comprehensive and clear instruction backed up with demos. I have been eradicating a slight waiters tray aspect to my serve I think that is behind me now. You didn’t mention how Ryan has his strings facing upwards when he starts the motion. I have found this makes spin easier than having strings facing down which seems to suit the flat serve. As you have to pronate to get the topspin I find this helps to ensure I don’t slip back into any waiters tray aspect to my take back. I was using an abbreviated backswing aka Andy Roddick but I struggled to get any topspin seeing Ryan take a longer take back I realise I can do that and still pronate plus this gives more natural rhythm and I believe power. I need a consistent serve with kick with pronation especially for doubles. Something I don’t bottle out of under pressure. Thanks again love your instructions will check out your swing path video. 😊

Great tip. I tell my students very familiar stuff. I’d say, If u are 6’2 you should be able to RALLY (not serve) in a room with a ceiling that’s 6’2 and not hit your head in the ceiling. AND being lower helps you “absorb” deep balls and take them earlier.
