I spent my teenage years in Australia while Martina was dominating the game. I was a huge tennis player and fan during those impressionable years and Martina impacted my life in ways much greater than tennis. Martina taught me a lot about sex and tolerance and the fallacy of stereotyping that I simply couldn't learn elsewhere. All of the stereotypes about lesbians being callous, mean and domineering simply didn't fit with what I saw in Martina. I saw a very caring and frequently vulnerable and emotional woman, not a domineering man hater. Martina was the only lesbian I knew about in my sheltered existence and she was okay by me. It's sad that I had to learn about lesbianism from a celebrity but at least Martina was there and at least I was able to see how incredibly unfair the stereotypes were. She might well be one of the bravest people of my lifetime.

I've read a list of LGBT Athletes, and I agree with Miss Navratilova, there aren't many current male players that have come out, that I know of for certain. There were a few in the past, but none current. I mean, idk why.

as a Christian believer, I try to accept those who are different I am excluded from my Catholic church due to being in a relationship, heterosexual, but nevertheless, unable to marry so excluded. I see gay 'marriage' as a union, and respect those who are LGBT. None of us asked to be what we were born. Jesus Christ would accept all of us but at the same time to ask God's guidance as to our lifestyle. If we have to be celibate that is a cross to bear. He did.

It WAS always called a union before it was made legal...and unions were never recognized by anyone! Outside of "Common Law" which we also cannot be a part of, the only "union" the law recognizes is a MARRIAGE and it is proper for the gay community to benefit from all the laws providing the protections for those who are. Don't sit there in all your self-righteousness and tell us what it should or should not be called. A marriage is a marriage...it is a solemn promise to one another and to God and it includes sacred vows between two PEOPLE...ANY TWO PEOPLE.
