Regarding the effect of I:P Masquerena, can I use effect of I:P to link out unaffected monster by activated card effect to summon Goddess of the underworld? Many people say it's no possible, but I think it is okay because the i:p is not considered activated effect because the effect affect the resolution to link summon. Also can I activate solemn judgement or solemn strike on the summon of goddess by the I:P effect if this is chain 1 in before chain?

A note about the Unchained Souls linking away. While allowing the opponent's monster to become a Link material IS an effect that needs to apply on the target (so it won't work against "unaffected by activated effects"), the link summon itself is NOT considered removal by a card effect. For example, it won't trigger a Raye in the GY, Nightmare Throne or the Ritual Spell of Voiceless. And in cases like Mirrorjade or the continuous spell of Purrely where they mention "an opponent's card" that opponent's card is not the Unchained Soul monster using its effect but the new link summoned card (Rage + Mirrorjade into SP, the card responsible for making MJ activate is SP)

Something to look out for, its pretty simple but i've seen it happen. If a tenpai's effect to synchro summon is cl2, and on resolution of that chain they summon black rose dragon, they will NOT be able to use its effect in a new chain as its summon was not the last thing to occur in the previous chain.
@babrad
@babrad Месяц назад
Another confusing interaction is Sangen Summoning vs D-Barrier. Tenpai player activates Black Rose Dragon with Summoning on the field, opponent chains D-Barrier calling Synchro. While D-Barrier is a card that activates, its effect is a lingering-continuous effect that will negate Black Rose just like a Skill Drain. In our regionals Sangen and Yubel rulings where the number 1 pain the entire day.

@@TheHoodMVP "affecting players" is typically jargon meaning some actions are just prevented from even being attempted. @TheHoodMVP
@TheHoodMVP Месяц назад

@@TheHoodMVP also NO, D-Barrier isn't worded like cards such as Mystic Mine that would prevent even Falcon from activating its effect since it directly applies to monsters on the field. And even in that case it doesn't "affect a player", it just prevents an action in the game state. The only card in the game you'll find "affecting the player" is Mystical Refpanel, but assuming you know the complete bs rulings this card has I believe you understand why "affecting the player" is jargon and never used by judges in any official capacity

Hey Tom I was at locals last night watching two players; player (a) tenpai player (b) voiceless voice. They were discussing lingering effects on their cards. Player a says the sangenpai trans. Drag. Effect lingers even if it leaves field; Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects during the Battle Phase. Player b says no it doesn’t. Player a says during this weekend judges were ruling it as such. The question is does it linger even after Sangen leaves the field or gets booked? I said it doesn’t after the match but they really believe this the way it works. Next thing that happened, was player b has saffrina ritual using the new blessings of the vv . If the blessing leaves the field does the saffrina keep its battle protection as a lingering effect. I say it doesn’t bc the spell card blessings doesn’t state even after this card leaves the field apply the protect from battle effect. What are your thoughts? Thank you Tom have a safe flight.

About Nibiru vs Sangen, how would you rule it if there isn't any non Fire Dragon on the field? I've seen cases where Nib activates and does nothing, while others say Nib is an illegal activation in the first place. Due to simulators the first case is very common, but iirc from Super Poly against unaffected monsters the activation is indeed illegal and you can't activate cards doing nothing so i believe this is the correct ruling.
@monkfishy6348
@monkfishy6348 Месяц назад
You can activate Nibiru, even if all monsters the opponent controls would be unaffected by it. It's stupid I know, but most things can attempt to affect an unaffected monster. Destruction, Banishment, Negation, Tributing, Using as Link Material, Used as Tribute etc... Just not as used as Fusion Material because Konami hates us and wants to make this game's rules as convoluted as possible.

I thought resolving as much as possible meant, do as many of a sequential list of effects as possible. In the case of sp I don't understand stand how that applies since banshing both is the only effect, I guess what I'm trying to say is , if sp said "banish this card and then banish the other targeted monster till end phase" and I would get it, but it just says banish both which implies at the same time and that both need banished. I guess at the end of the day yugioh card text sucks sometimes and maybe this is just one of those times
@grodon909
@grodon909 Месяц назад
Basically you need to have both targets present on resolution for the effect to try to resolve. If they are both on the field, it attempts to resolve the effect, and is able to do so, but only one of those cards ends up banished. If one of the cards was removed before resolution, then the card resolves without effect because it couldn't attempt to "banish both"
@subarashifoundation
@subarashifoundation Месяц назад
Generally when you have an unaffected card, it means you are allowed to apply effects to it, it just changes the result of the resolution. It means that SP's effect can be applied legally to both targets so it resolves, and only then as you're resolving the banishing effect, you then apply Sanger summoning's protection effect. It's similar to texts such as 'if this card leaves the field, banish it instead', you can apply effects to send it to the GY, the effect applies legally, but the card then gets immediately diverted to the banished zone instead.
@babrad
@babrad Месяц назад
The same way Escape of the Unchained will destroy only 1 card if you use a protection effect like Balelynx, Dingirsu, or Muck. The "both" keyword mainly cares about not losing its targets and once it reaches resolution, it tries to apply on every possible target then alternative/protection effects kick in.

Like I know you are right at 3:00 but Yu Gi Oh ruilings are so inconsistent because you can't negate the effects of unaffected monsters. So why can you alter the effects of unaffected monsters. If they made a floodgate that said something like "Change all monsters on the fields effects to "This card loses 1000 attack" while they remain face-up on the field" by this logic would that then be able to replace the effects of unaffected monsters? Because by this logic set by Konami you can just blank unaffected monsters by having a card that just replaces their effect box.

My own version of this: if you activate soul crossing attempting to tribute monsters unaffected by card effects or activated effects, does it tribute the monster or no? Answer…it DOES tribute it! Why? Because you’re not summoning a monster, you’re summoning a god!
@babrad
@babrad Месяц назад
If you want a proper ruling instead of a meme, the real reason is due to the fact the tributing is not part of the card effect. You will see this in every similar card always having that part in a separate sentence from the main effect. For example, let's take Unchained linking away monsters. It can't use unaffected monsters. Its effect is: You can target 1 face-up Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; immediately after this effect resolves, Link Summon 1 DARK Link Monster, except "Unchained Soul of Rage", by using only that opponent's monster and this card you control as material. How would this work if Unchained were gods....emm... i mean if they could affect unaffected monsters? Something like this: You can target 1 face-up Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; immediately after this effect resolves, Link Summon 1 DARK Link Monster, except "Unchained Soul of Rage", by using only this card you control as material. When you do, you can also use the opponent's monster targeted by this card's effect.

@@babrad chill, it was meant to be a semi joke. Soul crossing’s wording is identical to stormforth. This is not like summoning an underworld goddess if that’s what you’re implying. Soul crossing based on those other cards shouldn’t work either but it does. Now memes aside, for the actual reason why, I was under the impression that it’s just because Konami said so.

PSCT is consistent with that ruling by separating the part that can affect even unaffected monsters in a different sentence. That's why I gave you an example of how Unchained Souls would be worded if they could also link away unaffected monsters.
