High end rifle barrels do NOT burn out faster. Its all about cartridge selection. The worst barrel burning cartridges still allow for 1000 shots or so before accuracy starts dropping. Maybe you should have said magnum shooting rifles.

You know, you may be right. I’m going to talk with our gunsmith because this is something I’ve used as an example for years. I certainly don’t want to say something that’s not true. And I’m really not much of a gun guy I’ve spent all my time learning about sticks and strings. lol. Thanks for watching and do appreciate the feedback.

He is 100% correct. Cartridge determines barrel wear. Some Cartridges absolutely eat throats, the term barrel burner is a common term for carts that eat up throats. Between load dev and getting used to the rifle my 26 nosler went about 800 rounds before it started opening up and that is with excellent barrel care. My 28 nosler I expect to go about the same to maybe slightly longer its only at 250rds on it plus the 40 or so load dev rds and everythjng looks great but we will see at around 500 how its looking. My 7saum is on its 3rd barrel from Proof Research it's first two barrels was Hart and both barrels went around 1000 rounds after load dev (100 rounds or so) before it was breaking over the half minute average at 100y. Then you have carts that aren't so hot like just the good ol 260 rem, I have a Hart barrel on mine that is at 1800 rds and it's still a honest to goodness .3 minute rifle at a 100y. Throat wear is starting to show signs but I have no doubt that it will print half minute or better for another 600rds. With good barrels that are good steel the barrel wear is all in the cartridge, I have rechambered barrels that had a ton of rounds on the rifling and they shot fantastic after a rechamber one was a 7mm mag that had like 1400rds on it and rechambered to a 7stw that barrel had 2200rds total on it when it was retired and still would shoot in the .5 minute range consistently that stw really was a Throat eater. The fastest I've ever had a barrel go is in a 7.62 warbird I built and that barrel was done for within 400rds. Was a solid half minute gun for about 300rds and by 400 it was shooting over 1 minute groups at a 100. I've never seen Throat wear occur that quickly in any rifle cal. That lazzaroni Cals was the definition of barrel burners but the speeds was addictive back 15 years ago. Prior to that rifle I didn't believe you could shoot a barrel out in less than 1000rds, I was very mistaken. With with today's super spicy rounds they are barrel burners with the best of them. 28 nosler is gonna be interesting to see how many rounds I get on that barrel. I'm expecting more like 900 but I could be wrong. I've seen a couple people that was complaining that they had groups opening up by 500rds and if that's the case I will not rebarrel it in 28 nosler.

When I get a new crossbow I usually cock it and let it set for about 30 minutes before I shoot it. Then I shoot it about 25 times. It helps the limbs break in and stretches the string a little bit. If you don't shoot it enough before you hunt with it, the string will stretch while being cocked and your shot will be off when you fire it. I know this because it happened to me.
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild 22 дня назад
Just like with a bow you want the strings to settle. That’s great advice. Thanks

Well, my brother owned a 505 and shot 2 bucks and 2,coyotes in one year, he bought a trx 515 and has had nothing but trouble with the arrow rest, won't shoot. Right now the 505 is in my hands and is a tack driver. Beware of new 515!!

That’s interesting. I’ve only had them on hand for a few weeks and haven’t seen that as a problem. But I will certainly keep my eye on that. Thanks.

@@TrinityWild I watched a lot of Videos reviewing / commenting on the TRX 515, many of those have comments regarding technical issues with this crossbow. This should not be the case at that price point.
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild Месяц назад
@@flesby I haven't seen many issues as of yet but it's not been out very long. And I do not disagree with you, I still think the engineering has out paced the components. There is just so much tension and power being stored in those limbs and cables it's tough to build components that can handle it. That being said, Tenpoint has awesome customer service so if things do go wrong they always seem very willing to make things right.

My son bought a 505 last year blew up on 6th shot nothing my kid did wrong ten point did not stand behind it at all and talking to dealers are tough to deal with on warranty issues if you dont believe me ask many dealers about there issues i feel to fast without proper engineering hence the new design 515 for this year but paying alot of money for a bow it should maintain a durability and quality for a long time
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild 22 дня назад
As a dealer I will bend over backwards to get warranty work done for my customers. Tenpoint is usually very helpful. And I believe at 500 + FPS the engineering on these crossbows has out paced the components. It’s difficult to get them to hold up at that massive amount of power being stored in the limbs and cables.

I still think the flatline 460 is way more accurate.
@MonkeyTime-kq1bs
@MonkeyTime-kq1bs 2 месяца назад
@@ceciltorres6906honestly I was a little disappointed in the “out of the box” accuracy. The 460 you mentioned is an absolute tack driver. For Xbows that shoot over 500 fps I think the engineering has out paced the components. I’ll know more on this one down the road but as of now, I’d probably agree with you.
@ceciltorres6906
@ceciltorres6906 2 месяца назад
@MonkeyTime-kq1bs yes. Speed is very sexy to a lot of people like it was to me, but when I bought the 505, I discovered that speed is not as valuable as people think. More speed is more problem with tuning and durability of equipment, not to mention price of equipment. This is a big discussion that we can go into a rabbit hole but for the most part just know that from 370 to 400 fps and a 450 to 500 grain arrow is plenty of speed for an easy tuning a bit more fun when you get to practice way more n not having to worried on wearing down your strings. I sold my 505. I just now have the 460 .

Sight it in and put it aside ... all I needed to know. - What kind of Crossbow would you recommend for regular use? - I am looking for highest durability and as little maintenance as possible?
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild Месяц назад
Well, they all need some maintenance but if you want easy to take care of the Excalibur is tough to beat. Less moving parts to go bad and only one string that’s very easy to replace. Super durable as well.

I prefer a heavier crossbow. It's easier for me to hold steady on the target.

This is ten point issue all along they advertised speeds of 505 or 515 but with a light bolt but you get the heavy boot because they don’t want you using the light bolt one reason I own a Ravin R29x all Ravin crossbows hit there speed with 400 grain bolt and most go over 3 to 4 fps so really ten point advertisement is wrong fastest crossbow not true period
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild 18 дней назад
I’ve got the 29X too. I feel like the consistency across the lineup is a little better with the Ravins. I still say these 500 FPS crossbows just can’t hold up to the power they generate. Example, I can swing a golf club as fast as Tiger Woods, but I have no idea where the ball is going. 450 is all I’ll ever need.

That's ridiculous, so you're saying you're gonna spend a fortune on a crossbow, but don't shoot it. Cause it's not made to be shot. Why would you spin that kind of money on a crossbow? If you can't shoot it. In my opinion, if you can't shoot it like you would like to be able to shoot it. Why buy it
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild Месяц назад
I didn’t say it wasn’t made to be shot. Shoot it all you want. What I’m trying get people to understand is that a crossbow is not for shooting 50 shots a day in the back yard. Get a bow! You can put 5000 shots on a set of strings and it’s still fine. The wear on a set of crossbow strings just won’t allow you to put 500 + shots thru them without being replaced. A new set of strings on this crossbow will run you $150 minimum. And I’m with you, I can buy a HECK of a rifle for 3 grand. Lol. Honestly, I’m with you. I ain’t spending $3500 on a toy I can’t play with as much as I want to.

Hi how do I change the bow string for a new one
@TrinityWild
@TrinityWild Месяц назад
You would need a bow press. You have to get the right one that’s narrow enough for those limbs. I have an adapter that that allows me to get these short axle to axle crossbows pressed. You have to be careful how you press those limbs, you can damage them very easily.

Ridiculous price. I have a PCP air rifle good for 10 shots that puts a heavier arrow on target at 500+ & only takes 10 seconds to reload. Light refill air tank good for 3 or 4 fills. Guess what? This thing only costs $750.00 + $300.00 (air tank & compressor to keep it running), which is less than $1200.00.😢
@TrinityWild

I’ve shot a few of those and I really like them. But the fact you can’t use them here during archery season makes them almost impossible to sell. Which one are you shooting at 500+ ? The ones I’ve shot were right at 450 and were super accurate. Maybe I need to do a review on one.
