Good vid. Thanks for posting. The idea of the plastic mat at the tent entrance is good. If you are car camping, a door mat works really nicely too!

HGTV should really be using you as a weekend host! Thanks for the common sense tips! :-) I would only add that a light sanitizer or lemon scented bleach will also cut down on unwanted smells and discourage insect activity.
@AlaskaGranny

+Bryan Wicks Sweet sentiments, thanks. I would be careful with adding anything scented. It is not a natural scent in most outdoor environments. You may wake up like campers I know -with bears licking the scent of toothpaste from your lips!

Dear Alaska Granny -- I like the heavy duty refuse sack at the front of the tent. I like the sponge idea to mop up any water inside the tent. I like the idea of exposing the screens if the weather is not too inclement to keep the tent ventilated to reduce the risk of fungus. May I suggest of erecting a large tarp over the entire tent, which should remain largely dry in wet weather. Do not sleep with food in your tent. they can encourage bears, and rats --which can gnaw into your tent. How horrifying! A very useful video. Well done!

Great advice. Thanks for the tips. Never thought of the sponge. Much better than a towel. You seem too young to be a granny. Made me chuckle.

Glad you found my video helpful. Yes, way old enough to be a granny. In fact, I have a new grandson who is 20 days old today!

Well, you must live clean and eat right because I would never have guessed you were old enough to be a granny. But then, there was a lady I knew at work. Married at 17, a mom by 18. Her daughter did the same so that made her a granny at 36! Again, thanks for the great tips.

I don’t know about lugging around a five gallon bucket for camping, even for car camping only bring the essentials so not to get inundated with household stuff which will only take away time from actually camping
@AlaskaGranny
@AlaskaGranny 6 лет назад
Your thoughts are good advice. If you camp in remote areas for any amount of time, more gear, and even a porta potty may be essential. Only take the things you really need - great advice.

I think it is a Coleman. I have had it for many years, and it is comfortable, sturdy, and holds up great on camping and hunting trips. I found this one on Amazon that I think is the closest, and what I would replace it with if I needed one. Happy Camping! amzn.to/2f1xP4q

The trouble with tents is they work really great until it rains. Plus you have to bring something soft to sleep on. Tents are heavier than a Hammock, a hammock is more comfortable, keeps all of your stuff dry and quicker to setup. Oh did I mention that you can setup a hammock on a down hill slope when you always have to find a level spot for a tent.
@AlaskaGranny
@AlaskaGranny 8 лет назад
+Parrot Bill Sounds like you have the hammock mastered. I hope you have a hammock with a waterproof outer layer to keep the rain off of you. I have upgraded my Granny Camp to a camping cabin. Did you see my video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I6bS620Ntm0.html

Parrot Bill yoh can put a rain catcher above your Hammock, like a tarp stay dry under hammock.
@faithrada

I'm sure a hammock has its pluses.. however... if it's raining all day there is no place to "hang out". In my 8x10 I can at least get up and move about a tad.
