Great video and very well presented. I was getting frustrated watching you struggle with the fire lighting but 10 points for perseverance. I carry cotton wool balls soaked in vasaline for fire starting works every time, I also have bic lighters in every pocket or kitbag, they save a huge amount of messing about, even when wet. Look forward to the next one.

I've got a Rakoon too, it's a good tent. Weatherproof and enough room for two thanks to the pole layout. Also got the OEX Expedition tarp which we use with it if we want a covered porch area

Hi Dan, Can't beat a good fire, even if it is a bu&&er to start sometimes. I'm told hand gel is flammable. Never tried it myself but I'm sure we've all got several small bottles of it still kicking about. If I did youtube I'd be called Two Lighters Trev, Ha Ha. Ration pack stuff was handy. Dan. A serious question. Do you believe in Bigfoot ? Truely. I ask because I DO. Living in Canada where we have such a vast area of wilderness I believe he’s out here. Well considering in branches of the military a "mess" is an areas where personnel socialise and eat. It's likely a mess tin. They use weird words for stuff in military, for example they call a bathroom, 'ablutions' which is a religious term meaning ritual cleansing

I believe there is an overpopulation problem with deer in the British countryside due to there being no natural predators. Re wilding is a practice that re introduces past species that once inhabited the British isles. Parts of Scotland re introduced the European beaver to a certain degree of success. Wolves have also been on the agenda in order to reignite a more natural solution to the over population of deer. Would definitely add an edge to the English woodman's channel, if wolves were still running about the countryside I think words like camping and picnic would probably disappear from everyday use. Don't worry though it's unlikely to happen plus the dogman is doing a good job keeping the human population........sorry I mean deer population in check.

People need to plant more of what the deers eat. Keep seeing dead badgers where I live, it's sad to see the harmful impact we have on wildlife. Britain is too full but that won't stop them filling it up constantly. Great video 👍

big cats mostly pumas have ben thriving in the country for years mostly down south after the exotic pet laws changed years back and the rich released them all to the wild. many famers horses and cattle have been mutilated in the night especially in the moorlands down south it isnt a conspiracy it is a fact they live and breed here they are not a threat to humans just any big animals kept outside farmers have uploaded pictures of big cows been ripped to shreds and many footprints of big cats let alone actual video footage. not too much to be cared about though

Deer don’t have any natural predators since there are no longer wolves etc; if they don’t get culled by professional deerstalkers then they literally over populate, eat themselves out of house and home and die of starvation.

Great tent bought one last year take it motorcycle camping great ventilation you can sit up plenty of head room lightwieght love it

It probably died suddenly in its sleep due to old age. I tend to think everything in the butcher's went that way if anyone tries to make me feel guilty for liking meat.

10/10 for purseverance dan.ive started keeping a fire pack now,a old army sack full of dry tinder,birch bark,unravalled bits of rope etc fire lighters and my fero rod,flint n steel etc.love your continues good content mate.respect..

Great video! The struggle for fire is real! No matter how much experience a person has lighting fires, there is always something that can make it difficult. Great job being ready with an alternate method!

Oh the matches..lol. fair play for carrying on. I always have a Bic, Zippo or some lighter in my packs, I also have potassium permanganate which when mixed with sugar makes fire from a chemical reaction. Mess tin for taking to the mess where food is served in the army.

Hello from NZ, fire lighting can be a pain especially in the rain. I always put down a raft of wood first and then build the fire on that, if the ground is damp the heat from the fledgling fire can cause a vapor barrier to form and starve the fire of oxygen. but once it gets under way the fire burns down as well as up (on the raft that is). In 50 years of fire lighting I still have bad days. I use a candle sometimes, I light the candle and drip it over the wood or I shave it over the wood and this gets it under way. I enjoy your videos.

I have just bought myself this tent. Looking forward to doing a trial run at my favourite beach before taking it up some local hills.

Hey Dan, I may be wrong but it didn't seem like your heart was in it this time. I hope everything is OK with ya and your not having anything stress you out. I hope you have a great week . By the way, I've been working my butt off to get a storage of firewood. I have 4 pallets cut and split about 1 meter high and I forgot to tie down my Tarp a few days ago and the last 3 days has been real heavy rain 😅 and I couldn't find a piece of dry firewood to save my life. Funny stuff, ya got to love it. Talk to ya later my friend. Dwayne

I got a woobie and took it out for a spin yesterday. Performed well as a wrap outside and then again as a blanket over the sleeping bag. Very light, cheap and multi use. Dont get the expensive ones. Just get a used military one.

Great video, just in time for me to watch with a beer after dinner :) As you said in past videos steak is getting expensive! the different meals are half the reason I watch. I had a UN ration pack on my wild hammock camp last weekend, also had the same issue with matches!!! As much as I love a nice bit of steak, it was simple, needed less kit to cook it and the cleanup was easier as I eat out of the bag. So far I have only hammock camped, what tent would you recommend for a first for stealth camping?
