The final encore of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes' opening night of two sold out shows at the world famous Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey was a cover of Bruce Springsteen's 1975 classic song ''Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out''. These two special concerts closed out the Stone Pony's 40th anniversary year. This show was a night of rarely played Asbury Jukes songs and well placed cover songs that Southside has performed very sparingly over his 40 year recording career. The crowd was gracious and received those songs warmly but was ecstatic when this song was played as well as a version of Springsteen's hit ''Cover Me''. ''Tenth....'' also saw Southside reach into the audience to have two fans each sing a part of the song. They both nailed it!! Hope you will enjoy this clip.

The Boss doesn't write 'em like this anymore. Thankfully, we've got Southside to keep singing 'em. This was fun.

Stone Pony is on this North Carolina boy's BUCKET LIST. I met Southside and most of the Jukes in 1981, but Man, that was a LONG time ago.

I was at these shows at the Pony, time and age may have robbed SSJ of some of his vocals he still puts on a great show. With many variations of Juke lineups he still gets it done, you cant fake sweat. This is the sights and sound of Asbury Park.

Listen to his first three albums. There are few bands to open with that quality. All gems. The third (Hearts of Stone) is regarded by many as one of the best albums of the 70's.

He never ''played the game''. Johnny did everything his own way. Good or bad, right or wrong, he was his own man and still is to this day. Years ago, when Bruce was closing Giants Stadium, I was talking to Johnny's stage manager, Hood. Hood loved Johnny and was with him for over 40 years until he passed in 2020. Anyway, I was talking with Hood, and at one point he looked up at the Stadium and said to me ''One. That's all we needed was one.''. I knew exactly what he meant.
