Teotihuacán is the best day trip from Mexico City. We share tips and tricks to make the most of your time exploring the pyramids. Don't want to mess with the public bus? Book a private van here: www.getyourguide.com/mexico-c...
In this video, we visit the Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon, Temple of Quetzalcóatl, and everything in between along the Avenue of the Dead.
First and foremost, can you still climb the pyramids of Teotihuacán? No. They closed the pyramids during Covid and decided to keep them closed to preserve them. We visited in the end of May 2022 and we asked a few different people and they all gave us the same answer: they have no intention of opening the pyramids back up. It's disappointing, but understandable.
The pyramids of Teotihuacán are about an hour outside Mexico City and easily accessible via the metro and a bus. You don't have to speak Spanish to use public transit in Mexico City - everything is pretty easy to figure out. And it's SO cheap. If you have questions about making the trip after watching the video, ask us in the comments. We'll help you through it.
There are guides available once you enter Teotihuacán, and they may be worthwhile. However, just know that nobody, including historians, really knows much about Teotihuacán. They're all just guessing. You can learn everything anybody knows in about 30 minutes at Museo Antropología's Teotihuacán exhibit.
Here are the tips we have to make sure you have a good experience while exploring the Pyramids of Teotihuacán.
1. Bring water - you can't buy it in the park
2. Bring snacks - also not available anywhere
3. Bring sunscreen - you're completely exposed the entire time
4. Bring cash - you'll need at least 200 pesos per person ($10 USD) for the metro, bus, and admission, plus small bills if you want to buy any souvenirs
5. Wear comfortable shoes - you walk A LOT
6. Beware of open-toed shoes - there are LOTS of fire ants along the Avenue of the Dead
7. There are three bathrooms, located at the Pyramids of the Moon and Sun, and at the Temple of Quetzalcóatl
8. Be nice to the vendors. They're nice and chill. Just smile and say no thank you.
9. Be there when it opens to avoid the crowds and the heat

We definitely recommend you visit the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. They're still worth it even if you can't climb the pyramids. The site is massive, the ruins are impressive, and it's so cool to be in a place with such history (even if we don't really know what that history is - it's amazing).

This brings back some very old memories for me…I’ve only gotten to visit here once, Way back in December of 1979 when I was ten, but I remember it so very vividly! Why can't you climb the pyramids? When will they reopen for that??
@PerfectLittlePlanet
@PerfectLittlePlanet Год назад
If you do an image search for climbing the Pyramid of the Sun, you'll see why they stopped it. Long lines of people standing close together all the way up the stairs. Definitely not Covid-friendly. And now that the pandemic has subsided, I think it's just easier and cheaper for them to keep it blocked off completely. They may never reopen it.

Going next month, what time would you recommend heading over to be there early to get cooler weather? Also, do you know if tickets ever sell out?
@PerfectLittlePlanet
@PerfectLittlePlanet Год назад
Tickets to Teotihuacan do not sell out, but if you're taking the bus, that might. Shoot for getting on a bus around 8am, like we did. Teotihuacan doesn't open until 9am, so no use trying to go any earlier than that.

We had asked a local friend where she recommended, and La Condesa and Roma Norte (right next to it) were at the top of her list. We stayed at Home Inn Suites, which was a pretty basic, no frills place. www.airbnb.com/rooms/49292690

I am trying to assess the safety risk of driving in Mexico. We’re traveling soon and we rented a car and we’re planning on driving from Mexico City to San Juan Teotihuacán, any insight or tips?
@PerfectLittlePlanet
@PerfectLittlePlanet Месяц назад
We didn't drive, so we can't offer any insights on the rental car process. But the roads are fine. Mainly highways the whole way. We had quite a bit of traffic as we were leaving Mexico City, but it was normal traffic - nothing chaotic like southeast asia or anything. Have fun!

Yeah, the band is from Chile. Nobody knows what kind of music the people of Teotihuacan listened to, but I figured the Andean vibe could be close.

It's beautiful video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
@PerfectLittlePlanet
@PerfectLittlePlanet 2 года назад
For sure, don't let not knowing the language stop you from traveling to a place. People are friendly and helpful everywhere. Learning a few phrases like thank you, hello, and excuse me go a long way.
