Tephrocactus articulata is otherwise known as "pinecone cactus" for its obvious features that make it appear to be pinecone-like. It takes the #74 spot of "365 Days of Plants".
In this video I go over some basic care tips including where this plant grows natively, where I'm growing it in my home, propagation, watering, lighting and more.
You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.

The smaller is vintage and the larger one I got from Chelsea Garden Center. It's the kind that if you leave outdoors, the moss starts growing on it

These look so cute Summer!! I've never heard of them so thank you for sharing! I fertilize my succulents and cacti once a month as well and they seem to be happy. In the dormant months I don't fertilize much, but I pick back up when it's in the growing season. I love how many different plants you have. I just counted the other day and I came up with 422 individual plants I have both indoors and out on my lanai. I have approx 200 pots but more than one plant in many of them. You give me such inspiration to keep on growing and adding to my collection. There's always "One more" I need or want 😁

I want one... On another subject, as a fellow RU-vidr I get somewhat annoyed by trolls who "thumb down" plant videos. You have to go out of your way for most plant videos, so if that is not your thing...why come to the channel in the first place? I don't understand that. Anyhow...I want one of those. And as always...love the planter it is in.

*_Tephrocactus articulatus_* is the correct binomial name (not articulata which denotes female gender). Most of the times the masculine gender of the genus *-us* is followed by a masculine epithet as well.

I find that most cactus in my large collection enjoy organic fertilizers, especially anything from the sea. Currently I'm using Searls SeaMax (fish & kelp). I've noticed my cactus keep the beautiful colours & shapes, far better using organic fertilizers.🌵

I have so much trouble with my pinecone cacti. I have a super green thumb with cacti, but these and peanut cacti are so tough for me.

How long do you keep them in same pot before charging them to bigger planter
@aliburney4072
@aliburney4072 Год назад
Depends on the cactus. Tephrocactus articulatus grows relatively quickly, and you probably dont need to change its pot for a couple years. You should also plant a succulent or cactus based on how big their root systems are. So the bigger the network of roots the bigger the pot. And if you do that you likely wont have to repot for a while. On the other hand if you get something like an ariocarpus (which i dont recommend for beginners) you could keep it in the same pot for a decade and it still will not have out grown it, because of how slow they grow.

Why do think that tephrocactus droop sometimes (pine cone)?
