Sotol is not a Mezcal, it's not an agave. Its a type of grass but still in the asparagaceae family. More errors, not all Pina are "massive" some are quite small like Tobala. Not all tequilas are steam cooked, many are open fire brick ovens. Not all Mezcals are cooked in an earthen pit, see Zacatecas and Guanajuato as good examples. Not all Mezcals are roasted with "lava rocks" as well. In fact most of the information in this video is completely false.
The tequila process was exactlly the same as mezcal today, over the years they sales grow up world wide that they chance some ways for mass producción killing the real spirit of the distillation. But still some small producers making tequila in the original way, the artesanal way but thoes botlles have a very exclusive clientel.
I like a 3:1 tequila to mezcal mix in many cocktails. The smoke compliments tequilas flavor without being too bold. Try it in a grapefruit & lime mix with chilli/salt rimmed glass.

A fellow in a bar swore up-and-down that Patron tequila was infused with vodka. That just does not sound right to me. Anyone have any idea of the validity of that?
