Back in 2014, I did this with my first JK Willy's Wheeler. I did a full JKS Jspec kit w/Fox shocks in the wife's Rubi in 2015. In 2016 the wife moved to a JKU Backcountry for the Purple color they came in, so in went another JKS Jspec 2.5" kit. Here we are in 2019 with a new from the lot 18' Rubi. This one is getting the Teraflex puck kit. The Rubi red shocks are very well matched to the springs. Smooth and supple. Nearly no chatter transmits into the cabin. Even on heavy washboard gravel roads, they have little fade and great ride qualities. I'm in $300 in parts and am just as happy as we were with those $2000 Jspec kits. During 2014/15 the Jeep scene was really coming on hot, I spent too much and went too deep for how I used the Jeeps. Really happy with the way this Teraflex kit enhances what is already a good suspension system without breaking the bank. My only suggestion for anyone doing this kit: do front shock extensions and brake line drop brackets. You'll get your front axle droop and articulation back. The added height is taking the stock shocks near their limits just on the daily drive. Off road, they're insufficiently short. Rubicon express and Teraflex make shock extensions which will make another night and day change for the better if you are keeping stock length shocks.

@RubiconUnlimited 5 лет назад
Wow so much useful insight thanks for posting this. Yeah I did notice the shock extension, but might end up getting longer shocks instead. Slowly you can expand on this kit as needed. Pretty happy with it so far!
@tanktheram
@tanktheram 5 лет назад
@@RubiconUnlimited absolutely it's fully expandable. I'm on 400km old Rubi Red, which I'm told is a Bilstein anyways... so I'm not ready to throw out new shocks. When you order new shocks, be mindful of your extended and compressed lengths. A good way to prepare for this would be to disconnect, stuff a wheel in the well as far as it will go, measure from bolt center to start of pin for the front, and bolt center to pin center on rear. You don't want to bottom out a shock before you hit the bump stop, so go just a hair short of this measurement to start. Then at this time, you can measure by how much your bump stops need to be extended, if at all. Would make a good tech vid 😉

Genius using the bottle jack to pop the rear spacer into that hole. I fought with that for half an hour, then found this video and did both in a matter of seconds.

Love the build! I just bought a 2017 recon jku. 1st jeep ever. Im looking to do same lift. Have you noticed any sag from use or from winch? Would a 2-2 1/2 spring lift be better?
@RubiconUnlimited
@RubiconUnlimited 4 года назад
Spring lift would be a good choice! The winch will definitely cause some sag, which is why the levelling kit was important to me

Hi from Greece. This is a great video thank you for sharing. I have a question, I read that when you place the spacers there is a rattling from the metal on metal contact. Is that right?

@@RubiconUnlimited Hi and Merry Christmas! How many miles or km did your Jeep had when you installed the lift kit? My Jeep has 100,000 miles so I was wondering whether it is recommended to install the kit or just replace the springs?
@RubiconUnlimited
@RubiconUnlimited 3 года назад
I'm at about 100,000 km now and after all the offroading, and my new RTT, it's time for new shocks and springs. I was probably at around 50,000 km when I put those on

hello. i have a 17 jku rubi. all i want to do is eliminate the factory rake and run an aftermarket bumper with a winch. should i still install the rear spacers or could i get away with just doing the front?
@RubiconUnlimited
@RubiconUnlimited 5 лет назад
Hard to say, really depends on the weight of everything. In theory you should be good with putting in one spacer up front and checking out how everything sits / feels.
