Thank you for posting this! Most information about Hermetics seems to focus mainly on the 7 main laws/principles. This touched on some points I was unfamiliar with, but extremely interested to learn. 🙂💜

"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." -The Kybalion. Paradoxes are expected to be part of Hermeticism, so finding paradoxes in Hermetic beliefs should not be unexpected. That doesn't mean those paradoxes can't be explained/reconciled when approached with an open mind. An open mind isn't a mind that automatically believes everything, it is simply a mind that doesn't automatically disbelieve or dismiss things before the evidence has been taken and properly weighed. Also, many parts of Hermeticism are meant to be taken symbolically/metaphorically. People who take the metaphorical as literal are going to get very confused. For example, "turning lead into gold" is meant to be turning a lead soul into a gold soul. Of course, many have taken this to mean literally turning the physical element of lead into the physical element of gold. I'm not even discounting that the physical element of lead could be turned into gold through Hermetic principles when they are perfectly understood, but even if it could be done turning a lead soul into a gold soul is still more impressive and more valuable. This is interesting to hear, but it seems to be mocking Hermeticism without really understanding what it is mocking, while also mocking followers of Hermeticism that also clearly don't really understand what they are studying yet.

Thank you for posting these. Many hours spent listening to Terrence and never heard him talk about these subjects in such detail until you posted them. Thank you! I want to recommend Rudolph Steiner to anyone exploring this realm of knowledge.

At 0:15, what Terence was trying to say but mispronounced it was _Prisca theologia,_ which means "ancient theology" and from which the tradition for Orpheus, Moses and Hermes are said to have stemmed from. He's also incorrect about the meaning of _Trismegistus_ - it doesn't mean "three times blessed," it means "three times greatest" or "three times majestic." Orpheus, Moses and Hermes are just esoterically the pineal gland (the third eye).

I think that Hermes 3 or Thoth is a name for a form of an "enlightened" or awakened conciousness, creative force, or wisdom that anyone can tap into under certain circumstances. I think Terrence is one of those people who tapped into it, as he said a lot of his ideas came "through" him rather than directly from his own mind.

This might sound crazy, but I channeled Hermes while wearing a strainer on my head and cubes in my head while at a music festival this weekend.

I had this connection to collective unconcious in lucid dreams (if it can be called that way).

Just because the Corpus Hermeticum was from the c. 100 and c. 300 CE, doesn't mean that a figure Hermes from the deep past didn't seem to influence both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Hellenistic period. See Wiki Hermopolis "(Ancient Greek: Ἑρμούπολις Hermoúpolis "the City of Hermes", also Hermopolis Magna, Ἑρμοῦ πόλις μεγάλη Hermoû pólis megálẽ,. Ancient Egyptian: ḫmnw χaˈmaːnaw, Egyptological pronunciation: "Khemenu"; Coptic: Ϣⲙⲟⲩⲛ Shmun; Arabic: الأشمونين) was a major city in antiquity, located near the boundary between Lower and Upper Egypt."

Hey Ben, thanks for your continued support on here! I’m curious about something and you seem really informed so perhaps you can help. I too hear Terence state that the Corpus Hermeticum is said to have been written around 1900 hundred years ago (around 3rd century AD) by Hermes himself. But then Terence goes on to say that Hermes is a fictional character? An amalgamation of many people whist representing a fusion of Ancient Egyptian and Hellenistic thinking, for example it was said he could turn himself invisible, that’s pretty suspicious. So how can we be sure? And even if the text can be dated to that period it’s likely that the ancient Egyptian knowledge used to inform the texts is much older than 3rd century AD right? Either way I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts on this. ❤️

@@OpalEyes Love the channel. That's what I read, 300AD written down. I just got into hermeticism, the Golden Dawn, etc writing a novel the past year. But I've loved Terence since the 90s. I just got the book he recommended Giordano Bruno And the Hermetic Tradition on the subject. As to your question, where's Crowley when we need him? He would know.

@@OpalEyes take the bible as an example. it was written quite a while after christ, yet has its roots in moses who was a contemporary of ramses II. things evolve, and the date when something is remembered or synthesized in a particular fashion is not proof of its origin. rather, it's a proof of people remembering it and cataloguing universally accessible information in a particular way. of course, in order to be remembered a thing must be functional to the percievers and also must be relevant to the sensibilites of the perciever's age. the thing will also be catalogued in the language available to catalogue it. this doesn't make it any less true, it just means that we have to acknowledge that our interpretations the epistemologies we feel to be adequate and genuine are largely a function of our era.

It said “ his brother who created the fire realm… and asked his father who gave him permission to create” God is the Father. The brother is well… something else. God is always the father not the brother. Brothers do not create their brothers.

I think it's just a metaphor or way of looking at humanity's role as an empowered creator on Earth. It helps to look at all this as symbolic.

@@mikathorpe2919 Honestly I have never been a very spiritual person but by accident, I stumbled across The Emerald tablets of Thoth Adio version one night and I ended up falling asleep with it on. Next thing I know my soul literally left my body and I was... Well, let's just say I was somewhere else and I wasn't the only one there. The symbolism is just the layer that makes us think we understand. Most people will stop at that but since then I learned Sumerian ( Kinda) enough to know that words are very important and one misunderstood word can change the entire concept. Forgive my rant, like I said I stumbled into this it's not like I earned the experience or know more than anyone. But if I can share my story to anyone I will because to my surprise God, Evil, and yes good beings are REAL and there are a lot of spiritual traps, I fell for every single one so maybe this comment can save someone else from doing the same thing. Jesus was the only thing that kept evil at bay and I was shocked at that but it is true.

and for what it is worth Thoth is a real being. But it's hard to put into words because there is a universal mind aspect as you mentioned in your other comment. Terrance is right about one thing though: They are hiding something behind that place you get to where elves and beings show you things that are just not possible. It's a distraction. It looks cool but the truth is beyond them. I just cant ever get past the "Final Boss" but what do I know. I'm likely wrong about all of it and likely we all are wrong. Whoever thinks they know just hasn't done the work to learn we know nothing.

@@NoelNoriega Ohh I'm well aquainted with our boy Thoth. He seems to show up for people that are going through spiritual awakenings, like an archetypal creative force that has been teaching humanity throughout the ages. I'm glad you mention Jesus too...for me the spiritual journey has had the themes of both of these beings' teachings. The seeking out of wisdom and truth (gnosis) like Thoth, with the unconditional love and forgiveness of Jesus has brought me a lot of clarity. Replacing fear with love, basically. Trusting that you know your own best spiritual path, and you don't have to worry about things like traps or any other danger because your heart knows the way. I found that a good rule is to take what resonates (which means it's something you know is true) and leave the rest behind.

@@mikathorpe2919 I really like how you explained that. Its amazing because these things can get so complex and divisive but they can also be so simple and uniting. The one trap I guess that caught me for a while was the net of Pride. Thinking that I knew something others didn’t and that we can become as Gods. For me just humbling myself and quietly studying resonates however I very much like exchanging experiences and ideas with others such as yourself. Thank you for your thoughts because I feel I must really try to understand ideas that are not my own. Bless

NO stop white washing history. Hermès was just a copy of Thoth who was apart of the Egyptian pantheon. Egypt which is on the continent of Africa. So you see why they tell you Thoth is the “son of” instead of “the originator of”
