Teresa Brewer (7 May 1931 -- 17 October 2007) was an American pop singer whose style incorporated elements of country, jazz, R&B, musicals and novelty songs. She was one of the most prolific and popular female singers of the 1950s, recording nearly 600 songs. Born Theresa Breuer in Toledo, Ohio, Brewer died of a neuromuscular disease at her home in New Rochelle, N.Y. at the age of 76.
She won a number of talent shows and played night clubs in New York (including the famous Latin Quarter).
An agent, Richie Lisella, heard her sing and took her career in hand, and soon she was signed to a contract with London Records. In 1949 she recorded a record called "Copenhagen" with the Dixieland All-Stars. The B side was a song called "Music! Music! Music!" by Stephen Weiss and Bernie Baum. Unexpectedly, it was not the A side but the B side that took off, selling over a million copies and becoming Teresa's signature song.
Teresa Brewer re-emerged as a jazz vocalist on Thiele's Amsterdam label in the 1980s and 1990s recording a number of albums including tribute albums to Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Irving Berlin. She also recorded with such jazz greats as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines and Bobby Hackett.
Altogether, she recorded nearly 600 song titles. For her contribution to the recording industry, Teresa Brewer has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1708 Vine Street.

@blackmore4
@blackmore4 4 года назад
Before I watched her here, I would have strongly protested your "most talented female singers of all time" opinion. The first I heard of her was ten minutes ago when I was looking for a Petula Clark song (written by Randy Newman and Janis Walner) called 'I Can't Remember Ever Loving You' and the first thing to pop up was Teresa Brewer's version. It's a great song but Brewer's take on it is really _really_ awful. So I looked her up and found this and other videos which show that she also sang really really well. Just shows how important the right material for a particular voice actually is.

I close my eyes and I see myself as a young boy, a summer night,sitting in a booth at the WAGON WHEEL drive- in and hearing Theresa singing this song as my parents, my uncle James and his wife, the daughter of Peck Gibbs who owned the Wagon Wheel, sat and talked. Thanks for your comment..... every now and again and interesting comment pops up - like yours. You are correct, this video is taken from a compilation VHS tape of what was originally known as "Soundies". They appear to be the film version of today's video music clips and where shown I guess in cinemas before the main feature with cartoons etc. They all appear to have very high production values and appeared to be live recordings. The sound sync on this RU-vid upload is way out due to the excessive over processing/upscaling of the original 320x240 interlaced video to 720 progressive scan to try and squeeze as much quality out of the original VHS. The weird/unique microphone appears in a number of the "Soundies", and I have also seen it used in some Candadian television recordings from about the same era.
