Wow, that electrical connector behind the wing looks so exposed! Goes to show that your Daimler has had a good life despite the small amounts of rust. I’d dread to think what extensive water ingress would do to that look though 😬 either way - great progress on the Daaaaaaimler 😊
When I lived in the UAE, the max life of tyres allowed was 5 years from DoM. More often than not we changed tyres becuase of age not tread wear, so I'm like you and can't understand the UK mentality of as long as it's got good tread its okay
Nobody pits top coat paint on areas like that.that car is brilliant when you think its over 20 years old.love how people bash british cars.the 300 and 308 jags are pretty resilient to corrosion actually.better than mercs of that era but they dont get bashed so much,infact even noe mercedes sprinters rot awful compared to transits and such like.enjoyed that,great how all the fixings came apart nice and easily to.another sign of good quality fastenings.enjoyed that.will be great when done.have had 2 308s superb cars.on my 2bd x350 now,even better.
Bad rot can be hidden unfortunately. I bet that x308 could be way less rusty if undercoating and body closure wax were used from the beginning. Look closely for any rust at front shock absorber mount, front subframe v-mount area, take off the scuttle cover and look for the water exit areas. Not the easy plastic cover no, the one where is cabin air intake. Floors can easily be rot just because x308 (and other cars of the era) has the infamous pvc film as underneath protector. Especially lift front floormats and look and test every even small rust spot that looks like onlly surface rust. Ask me how I know....

Cracking video, tbh all your vids hot the spot for me. The figures, to me the uneducated looks great. I have watched other Toobers with mates who have huge viewing figures giving tem mutiple shout outs and features in their own vids barely match yours so that is my barometer, you must be doing good min, stick in😎 looking a hell of a lot lighter too, good work 👌🍻
Thats not rust😂. Took the wing off my Discovery and once I removed the rust the passenger footwell was non existent. A good square meter of sheet steel going to be used on the n/s/f quarter alone.
Personally I would be putting two new wings on the XJ, or at the very least replacing the dented one. Surely that is the cheaper option rather than investing all that time in repairing the old one.

For anybody else considering saving one of these pups . needs to ask themselves why ??? whereas everybody including Clarkson, knows that the only big jaguar saloon that is worth saving is of course the series 3 in Jag or Daimler form . All subsequent models after the series 3 demise were just poor , nay , very poor facsimiles of the series range . and now all 40's look dated dowdy and sad , whereas the series 3 is evergreen , always fresh ,. and never old how can it be ?? when Margaret Thatcher used her magnificent bullet proof black model . It was a howling mistake to stop manufacture of the series 3 and after the appa;lling Cortina like xj40 with its daft square headlights , all other models were styled to look like the series 3 which they missed by a mile . Gone was the delicate gracefulness , gone was the absolute silence of the double six , replaced by a nasty rough growl in the later cars and most importantly , gone was the feeling that the occupants and driver had "made it " in life and the series 3 was testament to everybodies ambition, desires and success . So my advice is scrap this old 40 or whatever its called and get a rot free series Jag from Japan , and treasure it and it will treasure you .
