@TheLittleLow Basically the terminator slung the belt of grenades over his back so the SWAT team wouldn’t immediately target them, thus preventing the possibility of them doing considerable damage to him by blowing up the grenades he’s carrying.
this scene always made me sad when I was a kid. just seeing the terminator get his face destroyed like that. at this point, you knew things were going to get much worse.
After this it weakened the good Terminator and things did go worse for the good Terminator afterwards he got his arm ripped off and beaten up worse by the T-2000
Matt H The bullets didn’t weaken him The flesh and clothes are just a part of the t800 disguise so he doesn’t need it to function correctly According to books the only man made handheld weapon capable of putting a terminator down is a 20mm antitank rifle According to the movies a .50bmg from a barrel will also do the trick
@@matth3805 The cops think he is the same Terminator from the first movie that massacred their commrades back in 1984. He looks identical and is wearing similar clothes. They have no idea about his mission.
@@paradigm_sh1ft532 they should be wondering why is he protecting Sarah and John connor instead of trying to kill them. Obviously he is the same Terminator but more improved and smarter than the one from 84 movie.
@@philipcearley1992 I'm sure afterwards they were like "that was badass!" you know, while theyre in the hospital recovering because they most likely suffered some very debilitating injuries from the T-800. At least all 100.00% of them survived
This scene right here actually shows the starting benefit of John's leadership. By him telling the Terminator not to kill, the terminator spared all those swat members. Even if this scenario itself put John in danger. He valued human life so much and this is what made him so devastating against the machines later on in the future. (Not that the future war was needed because they stopped it) Too bad they didn't stop the terrible sequels.
Also the part where Sarah attempts to assassinate Dyson. Both Sarah and T-800 argue that killing Dyson could actually prevent the war. John is the only one who argued against it, he is the only truly moral person in the whole story, the only one who truly values humanity.
you know that a gunshot to the leg could be fatal, right? not even mentioning the broken ribs from a point blank 40mm grenade, that could pierce your lungs and kill you too
@@zakvondaniken9327 The fact that Arnold just walks through the swat teams machine gun fire like it’s non existent and takes out the entire team but making sure to only wound them. Implying how easily he could kill them if he wanted to.
That's the point I always make, we the audience are seeing through John's eyes which disarms the Terminator but to literally anyone outside their alliance he's still absolutely fkin savagely terrifying.
2:25 Always loved that bit of bizarre machine logic of using the bike to climb the stairs, just because he's capable of actually executing that maneuver
There are a lot of things that these Terminators do since there's no sense of self safety or preservation. Its the same logic why the T-1000 drove the motorcycle out the window into the helicopter. This is what made T2 so much more entertaining to see these robots just do these insane stunts and action sequences.
Though I’m skeptical of that, what I believe to be true is that the beating Sarah gave the abusive guard Douglas was real, as they had to do multiple reshoots of the scene where they beat her for her medicine.
Should've been used way more for promotional materials. I love this Japanese cover that uses it: w.notrecinema.com/sao/images/wallpapers/vign/vign_jaquette_1796_item_244_1_.jpg
Even without the sparks, the fact that the dude you've just emptied a couple of machinegun magazines into just keeps walking without flinching should be a pretty big red flag.
@@NoelistAvenger They probably noticed that and kept firing cause it freaked them the hell out, their thoughts probably went from "let's drop this scum bag" to "oh god what the hell is he?! He's not human! Keep firing till it's dead!"
@@livingcorpse5664 Indeed. What else were they going to do? Its either fight or flight and since they had the big guns, they chose fight until it was too late.
How to make sure you make the most memorable following of scenes? Always give the viewers more than they could ever ask for. The Terminator bonding with John, Sarah trying to kill Dyson, Dyson helping them to get into Cyberdyne, the shootout with cops, this scene, the helicopter/truck chase scene, showdown at the steel factory, the Terminator's emotional goodbye. There you have it.
Sometimes it feels more like life is the Terminator and we're the SWAT most days and not the other way around. But when the vice versa days come, oh does it feel sweet.
I always come back and this movie is a masterpiece. It’s better than any modern movies out today! Everything about is perfect! The plot the effects and the casting. It’s like Arnold was born for this role.. I couldn’t ever imagine seeing someone else portraying the t-800
I cried watching this scene when i was a kid because i didnt wanna see him getting hurt like that, and till today i still feel sad for the same reason whenever i watch this movie
0:51 That moment of seeing the fire reflecting off the T-1000’s sunglasses made me fall in love with those Ray-Bans. Now, I’ve had a pair of them for over 15 years now.
I love how you can forsee what he is about to do on his POV, with the *DISABLE TARGETS ONLY* command on the bottom right, if you are careful enough. 1:02
At this point... he's doing it cuz he wants too... in the written novel... it even as I side story... had one of the swat members explaining to his grandson that the T800 was learning compassion... cuz he shot each one of them in the leg where they all healed up and back at work in months... also right before he got that rod stuck through... it states he was worried about John/Sarah and the rest of the human race
@@SunlightGwyn Not likely, the Terminator is a machine with precise accuracy and anatomy knowledge, he knows exactly how and where to shoot to do the least amount of damage.
Its Part Of Film Making Buddy. You Have To Understand That How Would You Show That One Can Able To Kill And More Powerful Than Your Country's Arm Forces!? Is It Not Sound Disrespectful
This is hands down the best scene in all of Terminator in my opinion. Just so well done with the SWAT guys shooting at this seemingly unstoppable force, technology they don't understand. World colliding with world in one explosive shootout. I did notice one error though, they never showed the shotgun SWAT guy on the lower left getting taken out.
So cool here and in other scenes (like "scan carcinogen vapor" in the bar scene) that Cameron took the time to do this -- obviously something no one in the theaters could appreciate but home video audiences would.
@@hugostigglitz9639 Yes but most people would not inmediately believe in concepts like time travel and self-aware AI. He only believed it because he was reverse-engineering a skyNet chip from what was left from the old one, and knew how advanced it was.
Imagine the thought knowing that you are next to get a round in your leg, watching each of your team mates falling in agony and knowing in a few seconds you are next, fear.....fear with the understanding that pain will follow...
It’s ironic the chopper pilot says, “We got a war-zone down here” when Dyson blows up the floor because a war-zone is exactly what they’re trying to prevent by destorying the plant.
@@James-qn3wi Yes, I saw that previous comment from @Tristan and your response to it. I was instead asking how long it took you to accomplish that task - e.g. less than an hour, a little over an hour, etc..
I love the style of the film it blends the present atmosphere with the future aesthetic in a way it feels like your being reminded of what there is still to come
@@armorpro573 They probably would've ran away, if they'd known they were going toe to toe with a nigh indestructible cyborg from the future, but since they thought it was a regular guy, their only instinct was to keep shooting,
Word is that's Cameron but he was in the beginning as one of the bar bikers the one that held the cue and dropped it cause The T-800 Model 101 would destroy him lol
Im sure they all did but in panic continued firing as thats the only thing they can do when following orders. Once shit hit the fan (the last officer) that's when he decided to disobey orders and retreat but again, too late.
Imagine being one of the swat and getting home and your wife asked “how was your day?” “Well this big dude shot up all our patrol cars with a mini gun then blew 2 up with a grenade launcher then came down the elevator where we shot him 100 times and then he kneecapped 5 of us and stole a swat van and drove off”
@@tylerwedell3750 This btw. explains why T-800 walked slowly towards them. Not only they started firing later than they would have if ran towards them, it was also easier to keep balance on his feet. The continuous force impacting him from those bullets would be so strong he could barely stand on his feet. A single shot fired from shotgun or a few bullets from submachine are anough to knock enyone of his feet even if bullets stop on bulletproof vest.
@@SparrowNoblePoland Bullets have very little momentum because, predictably, they're very lightweight relative to a human. Getting hit by a dozen handgun rounds is still unlikely to knock someone over, a shotgun blast certainly won't. A terminator, being a future-robot killing machine is unlikely to be effected by the impact of bullets what-so-ever.
2:19 literally every moto cop ever in real life, it's like a two week course yet there so cool that once they get on the goddamn thing they never wanna get off. "Oh you need something upstairs, no problem bro I got you"
It was always emotional to me when the terminator just shot the swat team in the knees instead of killing them. He didn't kill them because he kept his promise to John to not kill anyone!
@@philipcearley1992 definitely. I wish they didn't kill em off. Would have been interesting to see him in other Terminator sequels but then again the last real sequel was T2 😂
I know its late but "Potential damage" was indeed for the terminator since his eyes arent made of metal, if to many bullets hit his eyes it might cause damage to his vulnerable parts its why he averted his head to the left but was still keeping his sight on cops.
