I know ey? We see the war of the machines & the stakes are high and the future uncertain. And at least Salvation was different instead of recycling the T2 plot line over 3 sequels that followed - Terminator is sent back to the past to kill someone; Skynet/A.I will take over & so forth.
@@alexbaxthedarkside Do they? Because it feels like that's what they've been trying to do, and it never works. T2 worked because it was a skillfully executed inversion T1 with a character focus. The soulless hyper-masculine threat from the first film is now an Emotionally Distant Father Figure that overcomes his nature and connects with the Neglected Teen audience stand-in. Going back to that well won't have the same impact a second time. Honestly, I feel like the smart thing to do would be to just treat T1-3 as canon and tell new stories in the same universe, without affecting the main series at all. "Do a Mandalorian", if you will.
Turning John Connor into a terminator and giving Skynet a face and a voice after over 30 years weren't bad ideas. I didn't mind Arnie coming back as an aged T-800, either. But the casting of a young Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese was terrible, they just didn't fit. Story didn't hold together very well, either.
In the second trailer they should have used carefully edited scenes of Matt Smitt to give the false impression *he was the new super Terminator.* No footage of Connor showing his face as the Terminator. Only in machine state and over the shoulder, as they have similar enough looking hair from behind. [So no,'Here's the actual plot' trailer] The big reveal in the second trailer could be that John Connor travelled back in time to help them... not that he's now a Terminator. The I'm your father bit, _before_ Arnie guns him down. And have "I think we're marooned in time" as a voice-over as they show unrelated big budget action sequences. So audiences go in expecting Matt Smith as Skynet and the BBEG Terminator, with the timelines so messed up that John Connor has to travel back in time to help sort it out. BTW I have a friend who saw Gynesis without seeing any trailers, and he gasped when he saw Connor shot and was WTF? when he got back up. He actually liked the movie.
@@casbot71 Fair. I liked the idea, but the actual execution was poor. But, the original Kyle Reese was a scarred, battered, half-starved and rough-edged soldier suffering from severe PTSD. This one looked as though he'd just run out of the gym to fight terminators. Sarah Connor was an everyday 19 year old still looking to make her way in life before everything turned upside down originally. This is a different take on her, sure, but after ten years of being raised and trained to fight against terminators by Pops she should have been a lean, mean fighting machine like the Sarah of T2. No offense to the actress, but she was simply not convincing in that respect. Arnie nailed it, although seeing him as old man T-800 was a bit weird. The John Connor actor was good as well, but the standout was Matt Smith as Skynet I thought. His almost casual delivery of "I'm Skynet" when you see what happened to John Connor makes you blink-this has always been the REAL threat. Then the fact he is, while effectively playing a digital ghost, simply terrifying regardless? Well. As a soft reboot it could have worked. But they just didn't get it right.
@@Creasy5678 I agree. The changing of plot just didnt cut it for me and making john the terminator changes everything set up in the 1st 3 films and not for the better. I know part 4 wasnt perfect but they should had shown the entire war after it. 2-3 sequels was planned about the entire war then dropped then the film flopped sadly. They tried with the sequels but the end result is a shadow compared to the Original and much more logical set up. They make part 3 look like a master piece because at least part 3 was enjoyable.
The worst casting in the film is Jason Clarke as John Connor, by a mile. Every version of Connor we've seen has been some variant of troubled or grizzled - Jason Clarke gives off the vibe of a soft-handed tech bro about to sell us crypto. You're telling me a casting director looked at that guy and thought "Yeah, that looks like a capable guerilla resistance leader"?
Pops is also aged in his endoskeleton and his cpu. Just like technology it ages as everything else in the world kinda like a computer the more it use the more it loses its stability and integrity and ability to keep up If I’m not mistaken, isn’t this terminator from 1991 when he was time traveled to that time, and now to this time he has severely degraded, that’s why he’s also slower and weaker against the T3000 because remember this Arnold/terminator is the design of the T8 hundred model 101 before his design was the T6 hundred after his design was His was T 800 next was T850 next was T900 then T1 thousand and then after that was the TX terminator taking into account. The T1000 was an upgraded T 800.
I did notice the T-3000 gets faster in robot form then the John Conner look. I never liked the idea of John Conner being the baddie in this considering I enjoyed the 1st 3 films but after that they changed way too much but they tried hard in Dark fate to make 2 terminators in one with the Rev 9 and Luna was amazing in the role. This guy needs a heroic role I bet he could do it with STYLE
