With cunningly crafted cathedrals towering over the savannah, the preferred termite prey of the Matabele ant - Macrotermes bellicosus - collects dead plant matter known as lignocellulouse to farm for edible fungus. Whilst they are inevitable victims of the Matabele, they are far from helpless, and have large soldier castes more than capable of maiming or even killing the raiders.
Encounter the termites in the upcoming final story tier of Empires of the Undergrowth, coming a little later in 2024.

Can someone tell this guy what the difference between termite and ant nests are? Termites build their own nests and while part of it is below ground a fair bit is above ground too, they also build their nests like this for insulation and air conditioning from the heat. Ants are much less picky and almost exclusively dig and not build (with some species exceptions like weaver ants)

not sure about power level but the devs already revealed in one of their steam announcements that the King will be a dedicated protector for the queen. I've seen some people claim that apparently they are unkillable until the queen is dead but I'm not sure where they're getting their information from, if it's true then they likely will be quite powerful.

They are on average slightly larger than Matabele ants in real life. Due to similarities between the species, eotu stink ants will be much larger than their real life counterparts to differentiate them

from what the devs have said in Steam announcements the King is a dedicated defender for the Queen. you probably can't control him, but I've heard from others (not sure where they got this information from so take it with a grain of salt) that the King is supposedly indestructible untill the Queen is dead so they'll likely be quite a powerful defender, though one that probably won't be controllable

I love these new termites because, like ants, they are social insects, but they are more closely related to cockroaches than to ants, as I've heard. Unlike ants, termites have a different way of growing. They have an imperfect transformation, which means that they take off their exoskeleton "moulting". But why do they have larvae there when they shouldn't have them? By the way, I'm really looking forward to the version 1.0. Your game has gone through a lot of versions and work, and it's nice to see how well the game is doing. ❤

from what the devs have said on Steam the King seems to purely act as a dedicated defender for the Queen. rumours say that they'll be a fairly powerful unit (some people are claiming that he'll be indestructible as long as the Queen is alive) but it doesn't seem like they'll be controllable and they will therefore be unable to participate in any offensive actions.

from what has been said in Steam announcements the Matabele are normally obligate predators of Termites (meaning that in nature they aren't actually capable of eating anything else) but in gameplay they will be able to collect other types of food, but Termites will provide much more food for them than other sources, therefore encouraging you to only really go after termites for food, whilst the food from other creatures is more like a consolation prize to make up for any lost ants.

@@adamtruong1759 exactly. the devs have pointed this out in a Steam post you need to carefully balance killing enough of the termites to get food and to keep them from being able to fight back against you much while leaving enough that they can thrive and continue to produce more termites and grow to continue to fill your colony's food demands. if anything, there's a chance that we might end up needing to defend them from other threats. thankfully it seems like there might be multiple termite colonies per mission, some of the images the devs have shared show up to 5 AI colonies on one mission (they might not all be termites, but I'd bet that at least a couple of them are).
