Good review!!! After owning a Tern GSD S10 for four months and logging over 4000km, I can honestly say this is the best bike I’ve ever owned; it’s fun to ride, versatile, and multi-functional. I use it for commuting, shopping, exercise, and just cruising for fun. My gas powered vehicle is collecting dust because I rarely use it now, in fact my usage of gasoline has been reduced by two-third; a 66% reduction in gasoline will effectively pay for the GSD in about three years, that’s good for my wallet and good for the environment.
Thanks! The GSD is a great bike and we know many that have largely replaced their car use with it. This is pretty exciting as it’s what really motivates us. Tern has a real winner in the GSD.
Exersizing on E Bikes is a myth though, all your legs do is keep the propulsion system active. Tests have shown your body hardly burns calories compared to pedalling on a regular non Electric bike, or with the system off.
@@jody024 depends on a few factors such as the power level you use, the steepness of their terrain, the number of hours you spend riding. Blanket statements like you made are meaningless. I keep the power level to a minimum for good exercise. But you’re right if referring to overweight people who ride bikes with a throttle.
The GSD is the most useful and versatile bike I own (I own about 6). If I could only have 1 bike, it would be the GSD. Nice review Chris. The quality of your videos is excellent.
Thanks Bruce! This means a lot coming from you. I think if I had to limit myself to one bike this be on my list for sure. Tara our videographer is planning on getting one.
I only counted one “umm” in this video. Your speech skill is next level. Looking forward to the ASMR video. The bike looks amazing also. Incredible work bro
Thanks so much Jack! I really appreciate your kind words. Tara and I had an inside joke about ASMR bike videos so this comment is super funny! I’m really excited to be doing this and I’m glad I made the leap out of fear as this doesn’t really come natural to me. I hope we get to visit together soon!
Thanks for showing at the end there that a Yelp works inside the clubhouse for two kids! No one has been able to show us that or know if it would work.
Thanks Mark! I really appreciate your support. It’s been a lot of work to get this going, but I feel like we have a system going and I’m excited to produce more videos. It’s becoming one of the brighter points of my experience as a business owner. I really enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge with others and I’m happy to have someone who can help me do that and even more important people that are interested like yourself.
@@Propelbikes Yea, Chris the reviews are really good. And you come across very well on camera as a presenter. Also, the choice of lav mic and camera bring the message across with clarity and warmth. It looks like you are shooting with a Canon 5Dmk4 with excellent auto-focus on a gimbal in cLog1 or 2. Great choices. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Best Regards from the Bay Area.
Thanks Mark! We’re using the Cannon 5DMk4 and have been slowly integrating the EOS R. I might go to using the EOS R exclusively once my RF 24-70 arrives. We’re trying to figure out the best setup for travel. I might pick up the M50 for the gimbal work. We have the Ronin S and the SC but the SC is a little easier to handle on a bike. I think the SC with a M50 could be a nice combo.
@@Propelbikes Good thinking. I think you should stay with the 5Dmk4. But, if it's an issue of safety you could go to the M50. I just don't the image is as sweet. I don't know how you are shooting bike to bike, but I have a personal policy not to ride and shoot at the same time - I always use a pilot rider on an Xtracycle or front loader. It puts us and the equipment at too much of a risk. Ross's wife of Xtracycle was shooting with a gimbal and riding, crashed and got a serious concision. It was bad. Travel is the challenge, I too would love the "pull it out assembled from one case" situation myself too. Maybe you'll get that with the M50 and SC and lav mic. But, then again, I feel you should stay with the 5Dmk4 - it's proven to look really good with great duel pixel auto-focus. Have fun out there. Again, great work. And I always tell my students to take stand up comedy classes - it just makes them more aware of techniques of appeal and awakening - You are doing great on camera - it's just another tool in the box. Best Regards...
@@markkohr6078 Great feedback! I totally agree. We usually don't have the rider film, it is challenging when we travel though. Cargo bikes aren't always available, it would be great to figure out a rig that could be operated hands-free. Maybe an attachment with the EOS R on the SC with Active tracking. Have you used the EOS R, it's pretty killer, especially with the RF glass and the new update for eye tracking. I think I might experiment with that actually. For the actual filming, it's no problem to use the 5D but the riding shots are the challenge. I did just realize that this was the first video shot exclusively on the EOS R with a 15-35mm 2.8 RF lens, it's expensive but it works well. I'm swapping it out for the 24-70mm though since I think it will work better for our needs. 'll keep you posted on what rig we set up for the ride shots. I want to get that dialed as it's one part of our process which takes a lot of coordinating. I think I'm going to hold off on the M50 for now, I just wish they made a lens smaller than the 35mm in RF for the gimbal though. It's a little narrow for side shots in the bike lane, a 22mm would be perfect but I hear the pancake lens is slow. Really great idea about the stand-up, I would have never thought of that.
Gorgeous e-bike, and almost perfect lacking fork suspension. The accessories for the trailer are amazing. It seems to have been upgraded to a belt drive on their site which differentiates itself from bikes like the Aventon Abound. Rear mounted dual battery is also a very nice option. If I could justify this, I would buy. But Abound wins due to its great combination of features for a cheap price. I would pay $1K more for the abound if it had a belt drive option.
hey Chris , great review as usual. could you include more ride scenarios in your reviews if you could? i think everyone will appreciate it if you could show a bit more on how the bikes ride on various terrain or conditions, various loads, with kids, how it feels , etc etc. there's plenty of content on the web about specs but feel there's not enough info about these other aspects. cheers mate.
Thanks! This is good feedback and I will try to incorporate more of that in the future. We will continue to improve over time and hopefully invest more resources into the reviews.
Excellent review even though I'm kind of heartbroken to hear that your recent stay in Germany did next to nothing in terms of improving your pronunciation of "Schwalbe"
Lol, I’m not going to live this one down huh. Ill considering evolving the pronunciation or perhaps even make a video about all of the different pronunciations of German names. That would be kind of fun.
Very good review. Thanks! My only ask would be if you could - for us non-US or UK folks - state measures like height and weight also in the metric system.
Awesome review. Can anyone with the bike confirm if the S00 would be comfy with me and my wife (our total weight is 310 lb). I know this is within specs but more from a comfort level. I am 6’3” and my wife is 5’8”. She would be riding in the back. I’m imagining we would have the foot pegs, handlebar under the seat and the Standard rear seating pad.
I would say it would be pretty comfortable. Tara our videographer has a GSD and regularly carries full size passengers. I don’t think you would be too comfortable on the back, but your wife should be fine. A larger wheel in the rear could bring the seat up a bit higher causing her to bend her knees a bit less, but I’m sure the GSD would be good.
just saw one online at a Houston bike shop, so,,, had to go search the web site first and youtube second. BTW I am over 201 cm, so,,, I am pretty used to having to adapt a normal bike and / or order a longer seat post.
Hey, Chris, we recently sent you an e-mail with some questions about the use of cargo bikes in LA. We, students of the master industrial design at the TU-Delft (Netherlands) are currently working on a project about parcel delivery with bicycles in LA. Because we don't have the means to do our research on location, your expertise would be incredibly useful for the project. We love the videos, they are super informative and We hope to hear from you soon, thank you in advance. Orelio
@@Propelbikes Thanks, Chris. We really appreciate it. Nice to hear you're coming to Delft. The whole project runs until February. At the beginning of November, we will start developing our ideas based on the insights from our research.
I thought Bosch have a special cargo motor now a day's. Good that you can fold the bike, that means that you can take it for free in the train. (The netherlands). Is it possible to change the Purion to a removable Intuvia? I not like the purion, which stays on your bike. Such a small detail would hold me back to go for that model.
They do, but this bike has the Performance Line and Performance Line CX which is great for this application. Maybe we will a different version with the Gen 4 motor in the future, but no word from Tern on that at the moment. It is possible to fit an intuvia display but it can’t mount in the center easily due to their proprietary stem and light setup.
We have two shops, one in NY and one in LA. propelbikes.com but Tern also has dealers throughout the world. Reach out to us via phone or email if you want some more assistance. Our contact info is on our website.
When graphene lithium batteries come, decreasing the charge time to 15 minutes and increasing the range up to for 200km. Make it safer and airplane friendly. Also maybe a 45kmph option with a hopeful throttle then I'll go
This stand is prone to failure when subjected to a lot of weight. They are offering an upgraded stand for those that have experience a failure and they will soon have the Atlas upgrade option which is very heavy duty.
