I backed this on Kickstarter and was completely blown away with how much I loved it. I have never played the original Terraforming Mars, but I have to say that this game is incredible. I love how (reasonably) quick it is and I also love that you only play the phases that you choose, rather than all five every round. There isn’t a ton of interaction between what I am doing and the other player(s), but the interaction that does come is great. I love when I want to have two phases happen in a round and I am trying to figure out what the other person is going to play so I 1) get the phases I want, and 2) get the bonus associated with the phase I choose. That little, almost mini game, of choice brings a good amount of tension and fun. After only playing it twice, both at a 2-player count, I would put this in my top 10, maybe top 5 game’s that I own (out of 120).

The artwork and asthetics and theme and love for space, I dont regret my decision buying this, before any other game. I recommend it if you want a two player game and have love for space/space exploration. My gf and I enjoy playing this to The Martian soundtrack. Its intimadating learning by reading the play rule book; highly recommend learning the game first by watching youtube videos first, as me and my gf had a 7hr 1st played game lmao. Was more reasonable and fun at 3-4hrs at a second pass, its supposed to be a 2-1 1/2/1 hr gameplay, but we are still getiing the hang of it with our 3rd expansion pack. Recommend prelude, (Ellysium if want TM experience) Venus, Colonies, Turmoil expansion purchases in that order. Have not previously played Terraforming Mars Big Box, Race for The Galaxy that are similar in gameplay yet or before, but I do enjoy the revamp as it seems.

I heard you can discard cards at anytime to gain 3 credits each, will that help with the randomness problem?

It gives use to the cards you don't want which is great, but still doesn't help you get the ones that you need quicker.

I like the game, but not as much as the TM board game. I think that they missed the opportunity to make this more stream-lined (e.g. Race For The Galaxy), manageable in terms of time to play and yet still a meaty TM experience. LIKE, not LOVE.

I know your comment is 2 years old, but wanted to respond anyways. I actually like that it’s a little more drawn out, and not too streamlined. I found TM to be such a cool concept but it’s just way too long of a game. I like that this gives you some time to really dive into the engine your building as opposed to the game ending right when you start get rolling. Like he mentioned in the video if you kinda get stuck in bad draws I totally can see why you feel the way you do. When that does happen at least you can get on to the next game.
