Terraria max summon damage is crazy... 

So folks! Which has been your fav max setup so far?

Remember sentries exist, even if you dont use dedicated armor you can still get three endgame sentry slots with wartable/stardust armor. Triple lunar portals do be juicy.

Summoner is my favorite class! It's good that the Stardust Dragon still has powerful uses compared to Terraprisma.

FYI!!! If you want the maximum damage setup from minions, you should have three slots used by the stardust dragon and the rest should be terraprisma. The stardust dragon has a unique damage scaling graph because it is only powered up by adding more of it instead of you having multiple dragons, and past the third use, it is not optimal

The build aspect is truly one of the mamy things that make terraria special

Whips also work with flasks, so you can use an ichor flask to reduce the mob defenses through debuffs.

You forgot about sentries. Adding one sentry for free and a second one with the war table lets you add even more damage, and if you sacrifice an emblem slot you can add a squire’s shield or something similar to increase sentry slots

Summoner whip stacking it's fun, since all the whips apply tag damage, if you time it right you can hit some ridiculous DPS.

Summoning has always been one of my favorite parts of Terraria. I love how you break down and say exactly what items you need to maximize your damage. Definitely makes it a bleeze instead of having to research it all.

Summoner as always been my fav class, glad to see it getting love for 1.4.5

You are better off just stacking dark harvest and then just using firecracker as your main whip

there's quite a lot you can actually do with whip stacking that you may have missed, although the kaleidoscope is very powerful giving your minions plus 20 damage and a 10% to crit (yes ignoring minions normality of not critting), and the firecracker is very powerful as it allows your minions to deal 2.75x damage for one hit (although this more helps with things that attack slowly), using a berserkers glove/fire gauntlet, you could theoretically whip stack a dark harvest, dundrael, snapthorn and firecracker giving you an absolute insane melee speed boost for consistent and fast 2.75x multipliers and possibly allowing you to basically multiply your minion damage by 2.75x entirely when attacking that fast. *sad not 3x because nerf :(* the morning star is also a great whip as though it does deal less damage and provide 8 less summon tag damage, it does support with +5% crit chance but this could be good as it Stacks (i think*). as said in another comment, you also did seem to not use sentries, however they definitely do help, especially when using the stardust helmet vahalla chest and red riding leggings. I never really compared moon lord sentry drops, but both of them seem to be very good (i have mostly seen people saying lunar portal better though). Finally theres minion mixing, this is much more for practical use and is way more difficult to calculate. Generally i have found from others that stardust dragon seems to work best with 3 summons and then can be complimented with terraprisma/stardust cell staff, however the xeno staff also seems to be quite good for it having the best AI to deal with mobs (altough that might be for more pre ml cases). And the destroyer emblem could possibly be replaced with squire shield or huntress belt or something similar (sentry mixing coming soon?) i miss the glitch from ps3 where you'd bind the vortex beater to a button whilst using the stardust dragon staff and it'd create an infinite amount of the dragon heads

I used a similar set up to this for Moon Lord and the pillars but also used Daybreak, Ichor and that one Betsy weapon to reduce the defence and honestly it was relatively easy but i found myself struggling a lot with the Stardust pillar funnily enough

You can boost the damage even more if you use smth known as whip stacking, where you rapidly swap between multiple whips to get their effects up at once. Using a swing of the Morning Star (12% critical strike chance), and then a swing of the Dark Harvest (increases whip speed temporarily), and then primarily using the Firecracker (only switching when you need to put the other buffs back on), you can achieve massive damage per hit which, when paired with a full dragon's already high damage, absolutely surpasses the +20 summon tag damage & +10 percent crit chance that the Kaleidoscope could ever hope to provide.

This guy really did completely forget about his 3 sentry slots (1 base sentry + 1 sentry from stardust armor + 1 sentry from the war table from Old One's Army giving an additional slot similarly to the Bewitching Table) , kinda disappointing that he missed 33% of summoner damage, especially against groups and wave based events.

I love the start dust dragon but I usually go 2 sanguine bats and the rest of slots to dragon it helps with faster mobs

I understand the love for the stardust dragon, A typhoon dragon build (basically a summoner/mage build with like a 70%/30% split who uses a 4-5 slot stardust dragon and razorblade typhoon) was the 2nd thing I ever took out moon lord with. Keep in mind I haven't played unmodded Terraria for more than an hour or two in probably 6-9 years, so my numbers might be off on how many slots I had on my Dragon, but it was something like that. ANYWAY, the whole reason I brought this up is to say that IMO the coolest summon in the base game is the Terraprisma. Realistically I think it's potentially LESS powerful than a couple of other summons like SDD, but IMO it should be buffed to keep up with the likes of Zenith and Last Prism. Especially given the difficulty to obtain, it should maybe have a whip that has a tag specifically for Terraprisma only. Maybe little prismatic daggers could appear from the prism blades when they target a tagged enemy, increasing their overall damage by 25-50% (whichever works better in balancing, I don't keep up with regular game numbers anymore because it's too hard to remember)

This. This is how I killed the Day Empress on master. Pump as much damage as possible into myself with the witch's broom for mobility. If I can't dodge enough, I'll just have to kill her before I hit that point

Stardust dragon has diminishing returns after the first summon, i think the best setup is two stardust dragon summons with the rest being Terraprisma. I could be wrong though.

With updates idk if you can summon with damage and swap the gear like before or if the minion damage no longer gets locked in. Also endgame I always use Valhalla knight set with 6 lunar portals, buff was broken

What is the mod that you use towards the end of the video to Increase to that high of summons?

Technically there is more overall damage obtainsble by like you said whips stacking but also by using sentries.

Summoner is my favourite class because of pre hardmode to max your damage you need to mix your minions for the highest dps

I still prefer to use summons as supplemental damage to whatever else i'm doing. Using a few more if I'm just mining. Whips don't really do it for me, especially filling up my hotbar with whips.

So I’ve done a good bit of research on this and your actually off on quite a few things. The damage of the stardust dragon scales intensely with slots, and as such an extra slot beats a damage buff almost every time; the pigmy necklace is better than the Hercules beetle for instance. Second, and more egregiously, your whip choice is wayyy off. You should be using the firecracker. It has a huge multiplicative damage bonus to the next summon hit after each whip hit, which vastly outpaces the damage of any other whip. In fact, the summoner class benefits more heavily from bonuses to melee speed than directly to summon damage. Also the flask of Ichor deserves an honorable mention because on any enemy with defense it provides a considerable bump in damage because of the sheer hit rate of the stardust dragon

6 rainbow crystal sentries lead to some absolutely obscene damage

This build is good but is this really the maximum damage achievable? I thought Terraprisma + whip stacking was better (and also those accessories and potions, even better if you use Duke fishing mount on rain)

Melee summoner hybrid with zenith is absolutely nuts, I run 3 terraprisma with zenith both at like 300 damage in the stat screen with a tank setup of all things, I can kill get fixed boi master mode moonlord in seconds and still face tank him

Has whip swapping been patched?? It meant that you always wanted to bring at least two, sometimes three, whips into battle because the whip debuffs stacked allowing you to absolutely melt enemies with good timing

Summoner is my 2nd favorite class in the game due to its over the top glass cannon playstyle.

I play master mode so even thought I love summoner how are you meant to be queen bee or the worm/the brain with either two finch/a slime/vampire frog/ghost and a leather whip. Every buff in the world doesn’t make it easier enough (you need shadow scales/tissue samples for obsidian armor and queen bee for the bee armor and maybe hornet staff)

4:08 As much as i love this Class Nothing can really beat Zenith at all in terms of damage, Last Prism can if you’ve set up a Mappy Farm for “certain events”. Tho thats going a bit too overkill on setting up for it. Not just that Zenith is part of the “Safest class” as well, being a Tank yet doing more “reliable and easiest” way to do damage compared to a Glass Canon.
