Its literally the only weapon useful in multiplayer servers for pvp when pvp is disabled, one time a group of people(like 5) and me were building a giant hotel thing and a griefer came along and we literally lagged him out of the game and he couldnt move with all the ice around him
That's cool and all, but typically griefers are a bit more prepared than that (in my experience). Haven't seen one yet that can't... - Teleport - Spam any projectile of choice - Spawn in items - Just literally make the game unplayable, by placing an invalid tile, which crashes all vanilla clients (yea, *this one's fun*) Ice Rod still very useful, though.
Fun fact, you can use the ice rod to permanently fly using the bee mount by constantly spamming the rod right under the bee's head (it takes some practice) without losing much speed allowing an early hardmode option for travel.
I already loved this item and then you showed me its utility underground with panic shelters and such, I can’t wait to use this item in my next MM playthrough lol
No problem! I used to think that the ice rod was really bad but after... well I guess *months* of using it, I started to appreciate it a lot more. It's certainly not the best thing out there, but it's fun nonetheless. Just be sure to bring some earplugs
I remember in the Xbox 360 version there was an exploit where you could use the ice block on a chest with items inside, try to open it, breaking the chest and yet not due to items, and get a duped chest. Unfortunately I lined my hell bridge with chests and made my storage system a masochist sim reliant on prayers to the old gods to get my desired item
Sounds fun, you get to dodge and weave through hell bats and demon scythes just to find that *one* chest you could've sworn you dumped your souls of night into.
@@theonlyshinyumbreon It was carved into my bones the first time around to never put souls or such commonly used items into my chests. Unfortunately i can't carry say the same for other commonly used items
The Ice Rod's ability to place blocks on the fly, wherever, whenever makes it a powerful tool throughout the ENTIRE rest of the game, even when its damage is *FAR* surpassed by other weapons, for both building AND combat. I think it could even be used against the Moonlord to make his infamous eye laser completely *obsolete* (I thought wrong,) if done correctly. -That's an early hardmode weapon... with a practical use against the -*-FINAL BOSS-*- of the game.- _-That's insane.-_
it's still hilariously useful against second phase retinazer (if you previously killed spazmatism). retinazer and its lasers don't go through walls, so you can just place yourself in an ice square, fire at it with the ice rod, and repeat.
The Ice Rod has always been more than worth it, even back when it was 1 platinum! It does more than any other item, most importantly things no other can do, like build midair. If you struggle at hardmode, I highly recommend it! Haven't tried the antigrav hook with it, but now I will!
@@manyes9222 Not sure why you lead with that language, but I'd say it's never been bad. It isn't on hand, but I have a (short) list of good things about it somewhere after another one of these released. Did you mean another object does one of its jobs better?
we don't need to make ice puns we can just chill, that wouldn't be very ice, with the ice rod enemies fall before your very ice. Everyone who makes ice puns can burn in hail. This is snow joke.
Didn't even know that this existed because I just bought a ball from Wizard and left him alone afterwards, that's an awesome weapon concept hmm, so if we're all giving shine to under the radar weapons in the community...now might be the time to remind the world of my love for dart pistol
@@unknownentityenthusiast6765 What's funny is that the Cursed Dart is even better...being useful even vs the moon lord. Just fire like 2 darts over the heads of your targets and watch as they take all the hits. Cursed Darts make the Blowgun useful versus the Pumpkin Moon...it's goddamn absurd and I love it.
Yeah, to be honest, I think it's one of the more underrated items in Terraria. Super useful for many purposes and saves my ass/lets me do cool stuff. Also very nice video!
I remember a neat little trick. If you have the spore sac equipped, but don’t have any nearby blocks or walls, the ice rod’s blocks can not only serve as a suitable surface, but it balls up all the spores in a small location. That way, you have a spontaneous use of spores should you be caught in a situation where you can’t generate them otherwise in the air.
Most people overlook ice rod because starting hardmode you desperatly want a cool new weapon for smashing bosses. Since i tried ice rod its like my new hotbar permanent all the way up to ml.
I love the ice rod, i always get one even when I'm not playing mage and usually hold on to it well into the end of the game... It just makes building so convenient
There's one more use! The ice blocks drip light after being placed or broken. The light goes through solid blocks so it can light up quite a large area that you'd normally have to dig to. I use that method a lot for caving
as soon as i saw the ice rod for the first time, i tried it out for about 5 seconds and realized just how powerful this thing could be, now it's always in my piggy bank in every playthrough for emergencies
Now i'm gonna look for the Wizard at start of hardmode, this is actually powerful in the early hardmode, and with some magic buffs you cant stack its damage
I remember using this weapon to block my friends off during PvP scenarios. I even used it to survive a barrage of North pole stars and terra blade beams
Not even, because there's Fledgling Wings accessible any time in prehardmode (even pre-boss), and you can get the Giant Harpy Feather prehardmode. All you need is to kill a Wyvern or two.
Aggressive Bungee is ALIVE! WHO is Aggressive Bungee? WHAT is Aggressive Bungee? WHERE is Aggressive Bungee? WHEN is Aggressive Bungee? But most importantly... WHY is Aggressive Bungee?
I bought the Ice Rod once and instantly favorited and hardslotted it in my inventory because of how practical and useful it was for movement and building, as well as making said ice walls. It has subpar combat ability compared to a lot of hardmode weapons, but great utility, especially before you had ways for infinite flight.
use the ice rod to build in server spawns and ruin everybody's day by spawnlocking them with an autoclicker and mana flower/mana cloak me and some other people are the reason ice rod is banned on most servers edit spelling
I think the anti gravity hook is pretty cool and my favorite hook. Very fun to zoom with it and it’s still useful as a hook most of the time. Probably better options out there for other things like combat.
The ice rod is also one of the few items that can place blocks during the Old One's Army (less practical than the sand gun or dirt rod since the ice goes away, but still useful for the shooting through ice ability)
I used to use this with the Ivy Whip and Wings to reset my flight timer. I still do in Calamity, since some of the later bosses disable infinite wing flight.
one other thing about the ice rod is the Ice cubes have dripping particles that make light so it's good for caves, these particles light go through blocks so its good for finding ores
Finally someone else acknowledges this item! I used to be a PVP beast years back with this as one of my go-to PVP items. You can block people in and dynamite them, so it's really good.
Its such a great utility item just for a lot of stuff, its the first thing I buy from wizard regardless of its cost and favorited till the end of playthrough
The Ice Rod is a builder's best friend. Want to make your own floating isle? Ice rod! Need a quick arena? Ice rod! Can't reach something but you only have 1-2 blocks left and it's perfectly enough to fit the 1-2 blocks but it's not connected to any blocks? Ice rod!
Ice rod is actually a great weapon for when you have just entered hardmode on a mage playthrough. Your main objective when you're mining early ores is not to kill everyone but to simply avoid dying, and ice rod is perfect for it. It allows you to quickly save yourself from whoever is attacking you by blocking them from reaching you, giving you time to regroup/run away/kill the enemy by shooting through the magic ice blocks. This weapon is a lifesaver.
i did know its main purpose in building, but in combat i got blasted by some information my head was too slow to think of. what a great showcase mr.bungee
Also ice rod is fair in PvP, you can trap enemy players, very quickly, then kill them as they are stuck in place. Don't forget to bomb synergize it together, it also is a excellent trap helper with boulders and cacti.
I remember when ice rod actually helped me when i was playing mage on early hardmode (in expert mode)(my only "good" weapon was crystal vile shards so i had to use something else.)
My first experience with the ice rod was on an expert mode calamity mod (with a few more mods with it) playthrough with a few of my friends. One of them got the ice rod and LAGGED THE FRICK OUT OF EVERYONE! We then proceeded to ban the rod because it had the tendency to crash and bug our games. Recently in a master mode world we got the ice rod and I immediately said GET THAT TERRIBLE THING AWAY. But on our non modded regular world it didn't lag us so now it is a mild inconvenience and prank. Thank you for reading distant person that might not even exist.
