I can't lie, the little rant you both went on about people who get weirded out or too caught up in someones sexuality to enjoy music was spot on. I have always found it to be wild and embarrassing. People are people, we all go through similar but different things in life, but as long as someone is being honest and themselves in the music, anyone can relate. Getting caught up on race, gender or sexuality is an honest waste of life, and you miss out on so much of the beauty and nuance of life that way. Props for saying it with your chest. Because I have seen other react channels get weirded out by gay lyrics or something they percieve as gay and it makes me pity them more than anything. Love and let love. If you find that too difficult, at the least live and let live. Life is rough by default, we all going through it on some way. Just be kind to one another, its truly that simple.
couldnt say it any better. its honestly refreshing to see reactors not pissing their pants when they hear something remotely close to being gay in any way.
I agree with your general sentiments regarding law and morality, but I really don’t see an issue with someone not wanting to listen to a dude talking about gay shit.
@@dream1430 when someone say on a song that he's fuckin a bitch nobody cares, but when a nigga say that he fuckin a guy some people go crazy wtf. Idk why some niggas get mad abt it
@@devonjones102 samee here with his forever story it just takes time for me to fully listen to an album currently that is rodeo(probably my fav album of all time)
This album is abstract poetry Terrell. Once you understand that element of it, you'll start to love the tracks like Seigfried, White Ferrari, Nights, etc... its not so much about understanding the words/ message but moreso understanding how the songs make you feel listening to the album. Frank is a true ARTIST bro🎨
Lmaoo they posted this on the patreon for so long and the comments on there are the same as y’all. He didn’t fck w it like that and y’all are making excuses in the comments 😊
this album is a grower for sure. i think this album clicked for very few people on the first listen but as you sit with it more it just becomes something beautiful
My first reaction to Blonde was almost as similar as Terrells. I really didnt get it and at times almost caught myself sleeping during the album. But by that 4th listen that shit hit me outta no where and it felt like my mind unlocked another part of itself. Now Im obsessed with the album and always go back occasionally to listen to it
seigfried is one of the best written songs of all time terrell's interpretation of it is so insane LMFAO his whole reaction felt obtuse. I know hes genuine but, the writing in this entire album is some of the best, and i understand the initial impression of it bc i felt similar at first but with multiple listens as your understanding of the tracks grows you realize Frank Ocean's pen is just DIFFERENT. its beauty and art in its purist form.
Most people I know weren't extremely amazed when they listened to Blonde for the first time. It took me two, maybe three years to fully understand and feel the greatness of this masterpiece. Now it's my favorite ever. Easily album of the decade next to MBDTF and TPAB.
@@ronnieepting933 I remember the first time I listened to it I only liked Pink + White immediately. Even to this day it's still my favorite one but let's be honest: it's very accessible song that could have been released as a single. Arguably the only song that could fit in Channel orange. Every other song was like mid to me and I didn't care for this album for months. After the time every few months I gave this album another chance and everytime there was a new song where a thought "oh sh*t this is actually brilliant! How could I sleep on this for so long?" Especially when I discovered the brilliance of White Ferrari and Seigfried - objectively one of the best recorded songs ever since the millennium imo. Now I think there's not a single weak track. My only criticism is still that futura free should have been an own song without that interview part (even though I like the interview on its own) and that two interludes would have been enough instead of three.
@@PatoNani18 I had a similar experience. It was well worth the wait and patience to enjoy. It was refreshing that it wasn't another Channel Orange style. Frank is totally unique and in his own lane. Hard for me to critique the album bc you just know it's strictly his artwork and he did it the way he wanted. Only a handful of artists have complete control of their music like that.
The duality in Nights is just that, day and night. On the first verse the signal is going in and out as you can hear by the vocals being kind of choppy like a phone call with bad reception. Because he is on the move. The tone of the first part of the song is very bright and lively as in the day. Everything is moving everything is happening so his mind is less occupied with the thoughts that will surface to the forefront in the night time. When the beat switches it becomes somber. Like the night time . In the background vocals he speaks to the duality “every night every day” . In the first half, (the day) he is ok with moving on and being alone as he does not have time to mourn the loss of the relationship. But as the beat switches and incomes the (night) he is a lot more reflective as he is on his way to his night shift thinking back on times when his partner was all he had after the floods in New Orleans . The background vocals become a lot more strained as in the agony of the loss is setting in and become a lot more prominent and harder to ignore.. I think conceptually “nights” is on equal footing with pyramids as both speak to a duality with beat switches that match the tone of the subject matter . This is my perception
Still remember when I listened to this whole entire record. Was a freshman in college and rode my bike around campus and the city while listening to this Vibes fasho. Joint still hits to this day instant classic on me
Seigfried is based on the myth of Siegfried, a heroic attractive figure that went through his share of oddyseys, similar to Frank dealing with the mainstream world and his truth. Y’all was on the money with the message being a dream so far and unattainable like getting a glimmer of God. “Living in an idea from another man’s mind” also loops that idea because he’s a queer black man constantly guided to live a life that’s not constructively his and his moments of being his authentic self is “bringing in the homeless sometimes”. The second half of Blonde is to imitate a dream like a long ride in a luxury car (White Ferrari). I could keep going but ima spare y’all niggas lol but Kendrick is in Skyline, Kanye is on White Ferrari, Yung Lean on singing on Self Control and Close to you is a cover and sample of Stevie Wonder’s Close to you. This album is full of gems and I’m not sure which one is my favorite. Please listen to Endless next because Terrell is gonna love that! I guarantee!
@@DTCentYoungday I think Endless is even harder for Terrell to get into because it's at times very minimalistic and surreal. The production is also very left-field. I'm not sure if he would like that futuristic Ambient type of music with even more cryptic lyrics (look how negative he reacted to Seigfried, Skyline to or Pretty Sweet that are more Endless-style). Endless is less accessible, more chaotic but probably Frank's biggest flex (the Beatles white album type sh*t) and potentially his best album but blonde the perfect and decade defining album that he need to understand before he could appreciate Endless.
Solo is such an amazing track, it is all about duality. On one hand there's the interpretation Terrell had of the track where there is security in being alone. But on the other hand it can be interpreted as him saying 'So low' throughout the track where he is singing about his current feeling of isolation/loneliness when reminiscing. In the end though, both interpretations are valid, because when you're alone you can feel both at peace and secure while also still having some underlying feelings of loneliness. Also the dual meaning of "There's hell on earth and the city's on fire, Inhale (In hell), inhale(In hell) there's heaven" is incredible.
This is actually a really dope concept ……from one person that actually listened to the album that can offer their experience through the years vs one that’s just now hearing it for the first time ever, I really vibe with it…always have love for y’all reaction but definitely would like to see more of this as well 🙌🏾
Y'all tryna breakdown the dream verse had me in tears😭While I never really cared for Siegfried musically and barely listen to it, I've come to appreciate it more for the lyricism and story its trying to tell (shits def hella cryptic tho for no reason lol) After giving it a few more listens this is how I break it down: The whole song is about Frank struggling with his sexuality. It feels like he's in the middle of a game of tug-o-war being pulled by the ideas of living how he wants to live and what society deems is right. Talking bout how maybe he should "settle down, two kids and a swimming pool" but he "rather live outside" while also acknowledging he's not brave. When he says "This is not my life, its just a fond farewell to a friend" he's expressing feelings of denial about his sexuality even though right before that he says that the experience felt like the euphoria of molly and being in Nirvana. As far as the dream part I think he's saying his partner is hopeful that he can see God's light one day despite his lifestyle, while Frank can't see himself being able to.
Terrell you gotta give it another chance man😂 it’s definitely a different sound but I thought you would have caught way more of Franks double entendres! Don’t sleep on his pen! And Terrance is right in saying it’s like a movie bc he sets the whole vibe. I feel like Frank makes great music for movies. Like the song he made for Django!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Holy, your videos hadn't popped up on my yt for a while. The production value difference is crazy!!! Good job guys, remember watching you back in the day. Keep it up!!!
Great pick up on the first half being different than the second half Terrell!! In fact you pinpointed it exactly. Where ”Nights” breaks off into the second beat is exactly halfway through the album and the tone changes after that.
Dreaming a thought that could dream about a thought that think of the dream of the thought where I cannot... It's confusing but it makes sense. Frank is obviously Bi, meaning the thought of heaven isn't something he could resonate with. So the only way he could envision that thought is by dreaming of being someone else and thinking about what that thought would be for them. That's why he compares it to a phoenix. Mythology within Greek Mythology because no one alive had ever seen a phoenix up close, it was always just this distant sight that seemed beautiful but nobody knew if what they were seeing was a vision or not. Inception bars.
This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the masculine side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout. If it's not clear by my para, I love this album :-)
More fun facts 1) Ivy is a metaphor for how a young Frank and his love, at the time, had grew up and apart like 'ivy.' The song is about young love and how we all are partly shaped by our early experiences in love and the song feels so nostalgic as if it is were a goodbye to our first loves and our childhoods - 'we'll never be those kids again'
2) 'Close To You' is a cover of Stevie Wonder's cover of The Carpenters' original classic, which was also entitled 'Close To You;' this essentially makes Frank Ocean's song a cover of a cover. The Stevie Wonder version was performed during a live show where he sang the song through a talk box, creating a more electrical / auto-tuned vibe to the song. Frank Ocean deliberately drew inspiration from this version and placed this song after the interlude 'Facebook Story' to sonically portray the feeling of digital love or more importantly, love in the digital world. Through this lens, the song can be seen as Frank communicating how he felt lost in this new digital world and wished that his partner would have 'held his hand through this' instead of leaving him alone in this unfamiliar world but also realises that they are too absorbed into the digital world for his words to actually reach them
3) In 'Futura Free', at the end when Mikey Alfred asks “How far is a light year?” Well... A light year is the distance light travels in a year, equivalent to ~9.4×1012 km. The song is 9 minutes 24 seconds long...
Love all th extra facts I didn't know the loght year one but the others I always love hearing again. I always love seeing other listen to blond or frank in general cause he's my #1. I even wrote one of my college Finals on his discography. (Ace it as well). With each return to it I learn more, especially endless
frank ocean with this project solidified himself as one of the greats no doubt, as an artist, rapper, producer, and a creative mind. so many moments of my life have had blonde as its soundtrack and its just so special.
Nights is hands down my favourite song of his. It definitely has opposition to pyramids, and how they’re both the best off their albums (to me personally) but the feeling nights gives me, I don’t think I have ever experienced that in my life-only when I listen to that song.
frank has come out with some singles since this album, though. Chanel, DHL, In my room, Cayendo, April, Biking (solo) lens, moon river, and a couple more. an album was coming 2019 short after DHL and In my room until his brother died soon after. Whole thing ended up being scrapped
5:10 that building video was a stream of his secret album Endless, and y'all NEED to listen to it! Only 40min long, super ambient and produced & written amazingly
I love how Chaotic and confusing the album is at times because that how getting over someone is. The up and down emotions and the being over it at times and then being reminded of the heartbreak is being shown throughout the album
Also Terrell you just have to listen to the album more. Its dense as hell. Endless imagery and the more you research the lyrics the more it’ll make sense. Y’all should do Daniel Caesar x Case Study 01 next
Love Blonde. I remember sitting in the car with my best friend, listening to it for the first time when it came out. One of my best summers. 😊 Pink and White is my absolute favorite. 🙌🏾 Siegfried: 🎶I'd do anything for you (in the dark) 🎶 breaks me DOWN. 😢
Dammmmmmnnnnn gents, upped the production quality quite a bit since I last checked in. Glad to see y'all reacting to one of the biggest creative influences in my career. Highly recommend taking a listen to "Endless", it's less "put together" but it's a much more seamless listening experience.
Seigfried is my favorite too and it sucked that he didn’t like it. It’s the most nostalgic sounding song to me and I really love the music. The dream thing threw him wayyy off which made him hate it.
bro on the rigth gets itttt! People don't get why i b so hype and geeked over frank ocean's music but you get it bro. Good looks to you. Keep up the great videeos.
I’ve not watched a video on this album where I genuinely respect the oppositions opinion. It’s nice to see a video where one side can respect the craft of this album, and the other whole heartedly feels every single lyric, melody and message. This is why this album will stand the test of time. Great video!
i remember sitting in my grandmas backyard at night under a tent smoking and listening to this album… self control literally had me bawling my heart out lol
Yall need to find his first EP Nostalgia Ultra, it's only on youtube now but that's THE best music you'll hear from him as of yet, trust me and go listen
i actually really appreciate the different reactions to this and terrell's reaction to seigfreid just solidifies my stance that this album is Art bc that's how people view and discuss/criticise abstract paintings that are hung in museums lol. not everyone will get it but the artist does.
The whole point of the album is to focus on duality. Hence why you can find the album being spelled Blonde and Blond. Masculine and Feminine. In fact the beat break in nights spilts the album in half perfectly, which also mathematically also equals the length of a light year. Which is also why mans asks how long a light year at the end. So the idea of the dreaming bars frames it in a way where Frank is seeing things half empty where as his lover sees things half full. Duality. Chefs kiss.
This is and has always been my favorite album of all time. Since it came out 2016. Frank ocean my favorite artist too. Him and XXXtentacion. Favorite tracks on this: Ivy Pretty Sweet Seigfried White Ferrari (Solo Reprise)
I absolutely love the "Outro + Thoughts". I agree with Terrell about the 1st half up to "Nights" being a little clearer put and not overly poetic/artistic, making it sound more familiar to the listener (especially on the 1st couple of listens), however, I found that the more you listen to the album, the more you start to love and to appreciate the 2nd half. After hundreds of listens some of my favorite tracks are ones like Siegfried, Close To You, Godspeed, Skyline To, Pretty Sweet (which would be considered as not as popular). I also think what people like about Frank Ocean is what Terrance said. He provides something different than most other artists specially in regards to Hip-Hop not always talking about guns, violence, shooting, hood, money & bitches (the latter he does sometimes but it's kinda different & he also does have your more typical Hip-Hop songs but mainly not) which isn't necessarily bad, but sometimes you just want something else, it's just another category. He puts you in your feels by also being very vulnerable himself.
I think that Andre verse on Solo Reprise is the best verse that has ever been said. Every line has a double meaning, triple meaning in some. It's ridiculous actually. Like unbelievable.
I still remember listening to this album for the first time, faded out my mind. Then lived with it for like the next 4 months on repeat. Sad but beautiful times
The last part as you say of the album is the most poetic and abstract part. The more you dive in and listen to it and appreciate it you'll start to love it way much more then first listen. That's how it was for me
I view this album as a collage of random ideas that may seem meaningless on their own but when they are arranged together they form one big picture. Such as when he says that random shit on Siegfried, obviously on its own it’s some bullshit but you can’t zoom into a collage, you have to look at it as one big picture. When you do this you just feel the emotion that it contributes to the overall feeling and story of the album.
Yes self control always makes me cry and I love this song… especially when he said keep a place for me, I’ll sleep between y’all, it’s nothing 😢🥹😭😭😭 omg lol
y'all should listen to Endless by Frank it has some of the same sentiments as Blonde but its much more experimental and will definitely take a few listens to fully grasp
Oh shit. I love this album. both albums are classic......but Blonde hits so different to me over channel orange. NIGHTS is easily my favorite song on the album
I love y’all so much. The reactions are funny even when y’all not tryna be cuz y’all have this brotherly connection where y’all are just so genuine with each other. Terrance talking about “THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!” And Terrell gon say “It’s cool but RIDICULOUS?!?”. Y’all should listen to Nostalgia, Ultra. It’s his first mixtape, I’m a big Frank Ocean fan and it’s my favorite project of his.
Blond is one of my rare purely "vibes" based favourite albums. It's one of my favourite albums of all time but I know nothing about it and never really wanted to. It brings out feelings I cant really describe but it's not even from the lyrics. This video is honestly the first time I've read and thought about the lyrics at all. It's just magic to me, I don't understand why I'm so attached to it but I love it so much.
Shout out to Terrance for making this a headphone stereo listen instead of the usual mono speaker listen considering the nature of this specific album. This was a great call and please do this more often, because its not only a better experience for you guys but for also us watching.
