Ludisia don't grow deep roots. The best set up for them is a bulb bowl--shallow and wide. As the stems stretch out, train them back into the pot for a while until you get a really strong base that covers most of the bowl area. Then let the stems wander over the sides. You are much less likely to "unbalance" the plant out of the medium. I find that African Violet medium is WONDERFUL to grow Ludisia in.

I purchased a Ludisia Discolor from a home gardener last week. I fell in love with the foliage as soon as I saw it.

I visited an orchid nursery near my home yesterday and was treated to quite a large display. I will be revisiting the nursery again and again. After making my purchase of a couple Phals I spotted a display of Ludisia Discolor plants. Yes, I went back to buy one as the leaves struck my fancy. The nurseryman assured me it wouldn't need to be repotted until next year. Thanks for your video with instructions on repotting!

I grow Ludisia discolor in tropical Queensland, Australia... outdoors. The rhizomes are somewhat brittle but a good shake tends to remove most media from them.

ludisia looks great in tall pot, that's a nice solution for leggy plant, it does always become leggy for me and I always cut the heads off and re-plant them...

Hello Danni, I think that new pot for Ludisia, as nice display as it is, is way too deep, they like to grow in bow-like pots - shallow and wide. Even if you look at the roots of your plant you see they're not long at all. They won't grow much deeper than that. Seb

I would love to see a ludicia in a set up with a stair-step design, if that makes sense. Because of the way they grow & turn up when they grow too close to a surface, I feel like it would cascade down the "steps" really beautifully. Am I making sense to anyone? Lol. Maybe I need to buy one & build what I'm imagining.

Your ludisia display looks gorgeous!!! Here in Brazil we grown ludisia at the same place as phals, fresh, no direct sun and lots of light!!! But we put it in rich regular soil and medium bark just like my Cymbidiuns... My BF loves Cymbidiuns but because we live in a hot place, rio de janeiro, they don't bloom at all, just gorgeous leafs!!! Here we don't have the drastic temperature change at night, Cymbidiuns here in Brazil only blooms at the south part of the country! 😘😘😘

I've been thinking about switching my Ludisia to a self watering pot. Your video has convinced to do so... :-)

Hey Miss Orchid Girl! I have been loving your videos. Thanks for all you're great info!!! Your English is great and you speak your words very clear. At the beginning of your videos you always say: "Today, we are going to discuss about..." You don't need the word "about" when you use the word "discuss". Just say "Today, we are going to discuss..." and then state the topic. If you use the word about, you would say "Today, we are going to talk about...". I'm not hating on you, just though I would mention it. Just a little thing that has been bugging me....not that big of deal. Keep up the good work!!!

My Ludisia discolor had spider mite issue this summer. Keep an eye on your plant ! Ludisia doesn't seem to be as tolerant to spider mite like Dendrobiums do, at least mine didn't. My plant sat next to Dendrobium phal-types and it got spider mite from them, fortunately I separated and treated it in time. It somehow can also tolerate brighter light and doesn't seem to be bothered from your spider mite treatment recipe. Now it has recovered from spider mite and is producing spikes.

Oeceoclades is not actually a Latin derived genus, it's Greek. I studied Latin for several years, so I know my pronunciation fairly well, but Greek is, well, it's Greek to me... Oeceoclades comes from the Greek words "oikeios" meaning "private" and "klados" meaning "branch." Regardless, they're BEAUTIFUL! I have a number of species and hybrids from flask, but I live in the USA. Hopefully one day I'll be able to send a few more your way! :)

Hi, that's interesting! I just asked my bf what he thinks (his native language is Greek) and he said oe is rare in Greek, I know it's common in Latin. O(micron) and I(giota) together you read as 'ee' and oikeios means familiar :p so I do believe the name might originate from Greek words, but that is a Latin spelling ;)

HELLO DANI! I NEED YOUR EXPERTISE DESPERATELY OR ANYONE WHO HAS ANY IDEAS! This is completely off topic but I've had to chop off at least a third of the leaves on my miltoniaopsis due to the leaves looking like "wet leaves". It was less fleshy and somewhat darker than the rest of the leaves. What in the world causes this. My other orchids (25 of them) are looking fine but I'm worried. How can I prevent this? I've got it in my sick bay for now until it proves I got rid of it. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you, Rowan

Hi, I am not sure as I cannot see the orchid, but I would guess bacterial infection. Check this video, hope it helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rH0gM0b1YCA.html

I'm not sure it's the same thing. The leaves lost their dexterity and was almost mushy in the spots on the upper part of the leaves that looked a darker forest green. I didn't wait long enough for them to turn brown before I trimmed the leaves down to healthy tissue. I did use cinnamon on the trimmed leaves. It affected all the mature leaves. My poor miltoniaopsis looks like it went to a student barber who had no idea on how to cut hair lol 😂
