Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world
A series of stormy weather events continues to test Spain's strength. Another terrible storm began in the Spanish province of Albacete and has continued for the third day with short periods of calm. The storm began late in the evening with a powerful thunderstorm and heavy downpour. Local residents share on social networks footage of lightning strikes and rapid streams of water rushing through the streets of towns in the province.
The thunderstorm subsided only in the morning, but the storm did not stop there. The next morning, a storm front brought hail mixed with rain, quite intense in places, but fortunately not too large. The hail began to rapidly melt and caused new flash floods. This is how the second day of the storm passed in Albacete: the rain and hail either subsided or began to fall from the sky again. The light rain continued all night and seemed to stop on the morning of the third day, but the sky remained overcast with dark clouds, which did not bode well for good weather. And so it happened: by the evening of the third day, heavy rain began again. For the third time in three days, there were floods on city streets.
At the moment, rainfall in the province of Albacete continues. Local rivers were overcrowded and overflowed their banks. Reservoir dams release excess water and thereby aggravate the flood situation.
What day four will bring is not yet known, but meteorologists report that the province is still in the zone of influence of the storm system. This means that with a high degree of probability, rain will continue in the coming days.
