Incase you didn't catch the story from the lyrics, I'll sum it up for you. A man from a primitive tribe took a drink from a river/stream. He didn't know, but upstream from him the river was full of rotting corpses of another tribe. Drinking the water he was tainted and made sick. He slowly got worse over the course of the next day or two from drinking the bad water. His tribe had no idea why he was sick, and they feared that his sickness would spread to the rest of them. They didn't have modern medicine back then so they decided he had to be killed before he could infect the rest of them. When it says his relatives sagged it means they were beside themselves with grief and sadness, but they knew they couldn't stop it and were afraid as well. He was dragged to the fire and burned alive to destroy the illness. Like billions before him, regardless of form, he died as chance had decided. Meaning he died due to circumstances beyond his control, it wasn't his fault and he had no way of knowing the water was tainted, but he died the same way an insect falls into water and drowns. It was no one's fault, but it was just bad luck. And then his soul or essence raises out of the fire and returns to the stars as light.

It's a concept album this is the colmonation of the previous 7 songs. Love the last half of the song. Should also check out Hidden Window from their new album. George is a story teller in his lyrics.

@@enterthecronic The whole album tells the story of the "light/energy" from the first song going through several different forms of life until this guy drinks it from a river where the previous creature died upstream. That's why at the end it says "it returns to the stars from the fire", where the light first came from in the first song "An Ember's Arc" which you guys listened to that tells the story of the sun being formed and following the formation of that photon of light and it finally breaking free and heading toward Earth.

It's not my favorite Be'lakor song, but if you're looking for another one by them to react to with great lyrics and good music, try In Parting. It's a song about two birds who are brothers and their tragic journey.

From my favorite Be’Lakor album ‘Of Breath and Bone’. But damn if Coherence (their latest) isn’t an amazing album too. Vessels is my third fave. Band is god tier.

Yess, Be'lakor is definitely top Melodic/prog Death metal. You should check out Countless Skies from them as well. Similar groups worth checking out and reacting to are Ne Obliviscaris, In Mourning, Aetherian, Opeth and Eternal Tears of Sorrow.

You should listen to Countless Skies by Be'lakor. I mean, that song inspired the creation of another band. Is that good!

React to "Valence" from their latest album. Its story reminds me of Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" novella.

Wasn't paying attention to the lyrics, but loved the riffs and atmosphere. Had not heard this band before, but definitely going to give them a good listen.

We need more be'lakor! - In case you are not aware, this song is part of a concept album that guides you through the life cycle of energy embodying different vessels until returning back to where it came from. The song before this one "Grasping Light" is regarding the part where energy actually took consciousness in the form of men, by being consumed by a member of a tribe by drinking water from a river poluted by a rotted corpse that actually carried a desease and our protagonist along with it - a portion of energy that walks from vessel to vessel. "The smoke of many fires" is the realization, culmination and damnation of the cycle where the last vessel dies - man gets burned alive.
