On Sunday 27th March, the Senior Pastor of Hillsong Phoenix Terry Crist sensationally announced they were quitting their affiliation with Hillsong. It followed the mounting scandals plaguing the Australian-founded $100M entertainment and media corporate empire loosely trading as a network of churches.
Embarrassingly, this follows Crist announcing in March 2016 that the call for his church to join the Hillsong network was "the strongest word from God I've had in my life."
Like all men who confidently declare God spoke to them, manifestly Crist was gravely mistaken.
If Crist was mistaken about hearing from God here, who can tell if he can discern the voice of God from his own imagination, or the Deceiver's whisper, at any time?
In this sermon, Crist excoriates Hillsong's Australian leadership and says "I believe it is in the best interest of Hillsong Church to
conduct an internal investigation as it relates to board conduct,
to immediately restore the Sydney eldership, to make the
findings of that public, and to dismiss the board members who
have protected the institution and not the people"
