What a voice . I was in a Hospital Navy ship in Vietnam when i heard this song Played over the PA system taking care of my wounded Veterans . I said Wow! What A voice. I still heard that song in my head. Im 73 and i still remember. They dont make Music not even close to that. What they have now is total trash. RIP Terry. Thanks
I was 3 yrs old when this song came out. I remember hearing it as a young boy as my mom cleaned house. I kinda always liked it. Haven't heard it in 40 plus years. It came across my feed today and now i absolutely love it. 😎
Why oh why can't we have polite, well dressed and handsome singers like this today. What a voice. $what lyrics. Well before my time, but this song is timeless !
Whoever gave this song for me to listen to, I wish you the best life. It has been added to my favorite songs of all time. That is very important, because music has been a big part of my precious life. Know that you are much loved for that. Have a blessed Sunday.
Am I the only American who feels that the singers from the late 50s and the early 60s were the greatest rock and rollers of all-time and put to shame 95% of "modern" rock and roll? StocktonRob
TERRY STAFFORD PULLED AN ELVIS PRESLEY!! I'm a huge Elvis fan, and I know Elvis covered a lot of songs. Now, Terry went and covered an Elvis song... and quite well, I might add!! Rest In Peace to 2 music Legends!!
@@timothyernest6429 Actually he was only 54, 8 months before his 55th birthday. He was born on November 22, 1941 and died March 17, 1996. I knew Terry well back in the 70's as I worked for Atlantic Records his label when he recorded Amarillo By Morning. He was a dear soul and an extraordinary talent.
Agreed. It was the sax part, hypnotic. Also, it had a Phil Specktor "wall of sound" tone, like the Chiffons, Ruby & the Romantics, etc. Typical 60's 45 rpm tune.
Terry Stafford, Great personality, singer, song. Never heard this version before. i think his performance sums up that whole era of fabulous music. Before the rot set in! Now one of my top 5 songs any era. Thanks for the posting.
I first heard Terry Stafford sing Suspicion on the radio. His voice resonated with my soul. To this day I love to hear him sing. He died young too. All good singers are dead and we just have to comprise listening to screaming singing.
This song is haunted. Just plain gorgeous...with all today's technology, there's nothing more engaging.. at the end, it just goes around the bend into eternity..
@@carolyncordes9262 HEY! it sure was! I was a little kid in the 60's didn't turn 13 years old till 1969, and technically my music is the 70's which pumped out some really great songs along with the 80's HOWEVER, those dang 60's songs can really beat it all to heck and back. I also liked the later part of the 50's songs to. Jerry Butlers song For Your Love, can really put ice in your veins. That's why they call him, THE ICE MAN! The 1962 song, Make It Easy On Yourself kicks some butt out there to, and who could ever forget the song Let It Be Me by Jerry Butler and Betty Everett, blow the doors off you when you listen to that great 60's sounded music to, and I can think of a lot other 60's music that's really timeless to.
ya i am in England but as a German i think all of the western countries suffer this, because our culture is eradicated in favour of migrant cultures that are basically ...........
I'm 70 but I still listen to this stuff because it gives me flashbacks to my teens, when everything in my minds eye and heart was possible in the future!
Oh deer i am 76 and this is one of the best at the time, beetles ,,,,,,,,,,,,songs to simple success on young teens girls, elvis ok buuuut i like this guy, sorry he passed on.
In the early 1960’s I saw Terry Stafford on stage performing this. He was on with Jackie Wilson and others. It was a wonderful show and I’ll always remember it because I was a huge Jackie Wilson fan and when I saw Terry I also became a fan of his as well. I’ll always remember his soft voice and demeanor!
It seems all the songs back then spoke from the heart .clean a child can listen to the music from that era which is why we were not as destructive as this junk they provide today
My Grammie, Genevieve Paternoster was one of the back-up singers for this song. I remember being there the night they cut this. My Grandfather, Robert Paternoster assisted in the mixing of Suspicion. Good times!!! Miss them forever.
The music from the 50’s and 60’s were the best. I have so much of this music recorded and enjoy it very much. My daughter and son are in their mid 40’s and they would play this music just for me when they are around. Love it.
I was 14 yrs old when this hit the air waves of Georgia Today I'm 70 and rarely allow myself to watch this because I obsess over his voice that time so long ago the song the lyrics him It's almost painful to hear and see all that beauty wrapped up into one moment in time
I was born in 1958 and made it thru all the decades. Now I even listen to trap, rap, punk, afrobeatz, afropunk, dubstep, punkabilly, metal, alternative, funk and international music, etc. I've got 62 years of 100's of 1000's of songs in my head ♫♪...take that millennials...BOOM!
I was only 5 years old then when this song came out. Now at 67 I have learned some hard lessons in my life. Women weren't always sometimes faithful. I had learned my lessons well.
Wow, Stafford and Elvis both had fantastic versions of this song. Must admit I'm more keen on this version - it has a haunting feeling. Sorry Stafford didn't receive more recognition in his lifetime. Sounds like he did it all, singer, songwriter, and actor. Breaking into the Top 5 when it was dominated by The Beatles was quite an achievement. Thanks for posting.
@@zacharybauer929 Elvis also sang (cover) 'Suspicion': here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m5iRZidRn9A.html Which of the two versions do you prefer?
Sandy Yuen You love his music. I just found a lot of background on Terry. The instrumentation on his music was with Bob Summers, brother-in-law of the pioneer new guitar. Thus Terry had these big connections in the music world. Reason that his first two recordings hit the charts. Les Paul & Bob Summers were married to two sister of a singing trio that sang Christian music.____ Pace sisters. Thus although Terry appears out of nowhere, to singing success, there were a lot of other people in his life.
I was just a baby in the late 50s but the 60s rock and roll music what is the best music of my generation but only one person put them all to shame that was my man Elvis Presley rest in peace Elvis. One of the greatest performers that ever lived Michael Jackson didn't have a prayer. Elvis Presley was rock and roll...
It's a different world today---almost completely different! There was a Freshness in the air back then. Sure, I was just a young man...didn't have many responsibilities, but the atmosphere was far different. I can even 'Feel it, just listening to this. Cer- tain pictures come to mind. Nowadays it seems you have to Watch your back----and your mouth!
"Suspicion" is a 1962 song originally recorded by Elvis Presley written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman which became a major hit in 1964 in a recording by Elvis Presley sound-alike Terry Stafford."
@@ElvLeg I remember hearing this for the first time when I turned on my new 6 transistor radio. Wow! But hey, it's all we had back then. Couldn't afford to buy 45's every week.
I found out ONLY today that this was not an Elvis original! This guy is amazing, but maybe his voice too similar to Elvis' voice? However.....beautiful voice!
Nationally "Suspicion" rose from number 7 to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated 4 April 1964, when the chart's top five hits were all by the Beatles. "Suspicion" broke the Beatles' monopoly on the top five spots on the chart by rising to #3, its peak position, the next week!
i'm pretty sure you've heard him before! he wrote and recorded Amarillo By Morning! Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-la6ixqpAJUU.html
lynnkirton...I love to know, from your comments of 2 years ago, of your just coming to know Terry and his beautiful voice from this clip. I am a fan but also a dear friend from when I knew him back in 1973 when he recorded for Atlantic Records in Nashville, where I worked. He was just as sweet and humble as he was in this clip. I adored him and was heart broken when he died tho I didnt know for years. If you want to hear some of my favorite songs of Terry's that you can find on utube, look for Amarillo By Morning which someone else mentioned, he recorded it on his only LP released for Atlantic and it later, in 1991 I think, became a huge hit for George Strait which I'm glad Terry lived to see. Also an old Merle Haggard song Shelly's Winter Love is from the same album. There is also a song called Texas Moon Palace which is both a video of him at age 44 or so, performing it live at a club in Arizona and also a record on a little known label Player Records. It is one of his most poetic and beautiful songs with a wonderful melody which showcases his range. My other favorite that is so beautiful and is near and dear to my heart is called We've Grown Close. It was recorded in 1974 but just prior to being released, Atlantic New York shut down our small country division much to our heartbreak, including Terry's. The song was somehow included in a compilation of some of his songs from the 60's, tho it was from this later 70's era of his career when he looked like the consummate Texas "cowboy" he was. The pictures of him on the Atlantic LP were exactly what he looked like in '73 and '74 when he sang We've Grown Close. If you can, listen thru Bluetooth earbuds/headphones as the sound of his voice is so evocative and beautiful when directly in your ear. I think if you just do a search on say "We've Grown Close" by Terry Stafford you will find it on a channel from an Elmarr Neumann (or similar). Hope you find them, I love expanding his fan base even posthumously when he's no longer here to know it. RIP sweet Terry... I will see you on the other side.
Terry Stafford was one of my father’s friends and running crew at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas. He has told me about when Terry got on a bus to LA after graduating high school to further his career. Terry borrowed shoes from my father, and a sport coat and tie from other friends. My father never got his shoes back lol.
Reminds me when I was little it always came on the radio. Back then my Mom and Aunts had the radio on all day while we played outside having fun with our cousins. Sure miss those days.🙏🏼❤️
Soy chileno. Mi época de adolescencia y juventud la viví en la década de los 60, escuchando esta hermosa música norteamericana. La escucho con emoción cada día recordando mis años mozos. Que lindos años.
God bless those in chili I wish I was there in the mountains living more simple life than living here in the USA Jesus is coming I hope you are saved by faith in his death burial and Resurrection
Every time I hear this song I'm transported back to the 60s, I stop what I'm doing and listen. Then think on all the good times that I had with my friends and family. I think on those that have passed on to beyond the sunset. Music and only music can take you back faster then the speed of light to days that can no more hurt us, make us cry or surprise us. Just make us think on the good times. Amen
You're not the only American who remembers Terry Stafford singing Suspicious, back in '65' I was only 10 years old then. I enjoyed his music then. Now at 67 years old in 2022, this song I really can identify with. I'm having the problem today with another woman that I love, but does she really love me???
Terry Stafford has a great voice I love this song by Terry he sings so beautyful I love this song and this video is amazing thank you for uploading this fantastic video and song by this awesome guy love it love it ❤💞❤💞❤💞❤💞❤👍
