Typical High Tesla Accessory Price. At the very least it does seem well designed. But I'm always Skeptical about the durability of tents. One broken or ripped part can make them useless. So I hope it's durable.
Thanks Chris, I’ve been watching your Cybertruck videos in preparation for my delivery in September and have learned quite a bit. With regard to the Cyber tent, I find it fascinating how engineers can create more problems than solutions. For $3000 one could buy a quality tent for 7 people, a portable 10’ x 10’ porch, sleeping bags, air mattresses, electric blower, camp stove, camp chairs and money left over for beer, snacks and more beer. The aforementioned tent and porch are also lighter and take up less room than the one you tried to install. Kids over 10 years old can put up the conventional tent without a degree in anything but video games. Your demonstration, IMO, shows a quality made product with its main drawback of being extremely impractical. What happens when you need the truck to get more supplies or launch a boat? Yeah, there’s that….
Great review man. Love the details, advice, and that you include all the tools in the description. It’s too bad they made this tent so difficult to build while also being so expensive
You should try to go camping with it, and plug in a heater into the outlet overnight to see how much battery drain out 😊 We are waiting for that content.
I think that sometimes you get what you pay for. But, rather than expense, how useful is it. It would be interesting to go camping and find out. I wonder if there will be improvements. I do think i prefer the model x/y version.
Nice review. Should put annotations at the parts about removing that cover strip since it appears Tesla updated how it's retained. So it's one less pain point. Hopefully during the tent installation service appointment, Tesla will update that strip for early version of the CT.
Every truck owner should have a tent like this and for my Chevy avalanche, which is a hybrid and an alternate fuel vehicle. Does the ones for my vehicle cost like two to $300 but I was lucky to get one on eBay from Chevy/the manufacturer for $50. It was like a clearance type get rid of my stock because the Chevy avalanche is not made anymore> so I got lucky for the Cybertruck and for this amazing set up that’s inflated. You’re buying an initial run and so $3000. I can see why they’re charging it because it’s like new technology for a new vehicle but I would not pay more than a couple hundred. One of the reasons you said was for going out camping it’s easy to do quick and convenient for me. The number one reason was for bugging out. As I live like you on the West Coast, but up in the Pacific Northwest, I now have an option to throw in the truck if there’s ever a fire and you can’t find a hotel, I can park anywhere. Walmart parking lot put up the tent in there we go or wherever we’re allowed to do it , so something like this is very valuable. It’s like car insurance you hope to never use it unless you like camping.Lololol keep up the amazing and Hella jealous
Chris, earlier this year you made some beautiful videos about camping with connected tents to both the model X and model y . Those tents were much taller and more spacious. Do you think you would rather have this tent for the cyber truck or would you rather just have a large quick set up tent that you would keep in the back of the truck and sleep on the ground?
Hey I found your channel recently because I was getting a new Tesla. Love the video! If you do a follow up video, can you address if the zippers are YKK zippers (a reputable zipper in the outdoor community), material durability (maybe a simple splash or rough weather video), and maybe do a comparison between other Tesla tents and this one? Best wishes
whew. tired just watching you put that thing together. for that price point would have expected things to be a lot easier to set up. thanks for the content!
Our Tesla is downright remarkable. Special Tesla products often cater to fans with money to spend. We did buy somethings from Tesla and others from aftermarket.
It's pretty neat but looks way too tedious to do frequently. And that price tag is insane... Does Tesla provide warranty on the base camp? Looks like the Cybertruck will one day cut into the fabric.
The Basecamp really is disappointing. As someone who has a lot of experience with roof top tents and camping, that is way too involved a setup and not remotely good enough features for the price. Far better featured/more convenient and comfortable roof top tents on the market for far less. So many missed opportunities too to take advantage of the CT itself. Love the CT itself but this is a miss from Tesla.
looks like it takes quite a while to set it up & tear down. a non-powered pump? needing to remove a panel and potentially lose screws every time you set up & tear down? $3,000 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? no way lol
I'll be honest, I did not like the Cybertruck when I had a real chance to sit in one today while my MYP was getting winter/summer tire rotation service. The plastic all around the truck bed area, and under neath the rear area are all plastic. That is not going to age well! And the stainless panels, yeah, ok, bullet proof maybe but, so what?! Have you seen what is at all the corners attached to the stainless steel? - Plastic!? Come on. I want to like it, but this truck is NOT going to make it for 10 years! I am so disappointed!!
To anyone from Tesla in the comments, I’m offering to redesign this thing for free. Mine will setup in less than 2 mins & retail at half the cost with no compromises. (I’m an industrial designer) Cheers.
Aesthetically ok. HOWEVER, faarrrr too much trouble for the money. Poor antiquated design when compared to what the industry roof/bed tent has matured to.
Way too expensive. I rather buy an independent tent (and for 3k, I can buy an amazing one) and set it up by the truck. What’s the point of having it attached when you can’t use the truck’s climate control to give you A/C or heater. Anyway, not worth the 3K. A company will come up with one just as good or better for half the price.
the manual air pump is absolutely laoghable. I don't know who designs these things, like the aero cover, but Tesla's attention to the details is sometimes embarrassingly bad.
Holy mama! Chris, you're a rock star, but I had to lay down from exhaustion just from watching you wrestling with this thing. For the first time, I'm glad I'm too poor to afford a CT, so I don't even have to consider this purchase. Definitely a young man's toy. At least the tent part!
Man I hope they improve the entire truck and the tent with later model s cuz I would hate to spend like 70k - 100k only for the truck to be full of faults and bad design. I feel bad for Tesla owners
So many people are destroying those small little feet when you have to open up the tent I’ve seen a couple videos where people are actually opening it accidentally or breaking. It seems like a major design flaw.
