My first thought after becoming aware of the patent is this active specialized cleaning and air purification would be great for living and working spaces as a whole. Evolving from bio-hazard mode in Tesla vehicles it will be an instant win for Starship, moonbase, space stations, submarines,... When commercially available in mass quantities I can see this being used in Disney Land and cruise ships 😊 Homes of the future here we go 😂

Imagine Tesla vehicles having a similar ability where the car reads your mood & sets the lighting in your car to improve your mood & the music starts to play beased on your playlist that improves your mood as well so everytime you enter your car, your car improves your mood to happy.

Wonder why Dr Scott Walter doesn’t create more content on his own channel. Either way the level of detail Tesla have gone into with the robo taxi makes me incredibly excited for Optimus which I’m sure will be unlike any robot before it.

You guys are nerding out unnecessarily. Adding a self-sanitizing system not only adds a lot of cost But also adds a lot of drain on the battery. And furthermore, you do not eliminate any cost by adding the self-sanitizing. You still need someone employed to clean the car inside and out. So the self sanitizing idea only adds cost and complexity and parts without reducing any cost on the back end. It's far simpler to just have a button on the Tesla app so when someone gets in the car they can indicate that the car needs to be cleaned. That would be a self-managing system that requires no parts or complexity. Imagine you get in the car and see that someone spilled some french fries on the floor or spilled a drink. You have the option of getting in the car and completing your ride, or indicating that it's not clean and you would like a new car to pick you up. The dirty car would then make its way to the depot/charging center where a minimum wage employee would clean it. This uses voluntary labor from the Tesla network, rather than adding thousands of dollars of complexity and sensors that are doomed to break constantly and need replacement, etc, etc, etc. Nothing but cost and pain in the rear maintenance. Remember Elon's motto: the best part is no part.

This sounds like a defensive patent rather than a description of technology that will be deployed in the Cybercab. The capabilities that are described paint a wide boundary that will stop other companies from defining patents that would force Tesla into paying for licenses.

They should use those holographic buttons!

Self cleaning is higher than self charging. But do they have cameras all over to check for vandalism and what will be more seen is the ability to say, "You forgot your vape in the driver's seat!"

The front seats of the current fleet can be made off limits quite easily. The front doors could remain locked. Surely touching controls would be heavily discouraged.

This seems to indicate that giving or licensing FSD to fleet operators is only one aspect of running a Robotaxi fleet and that all these other differentiators will make it very difficult to compete on all these fronts!!?? Super episode.. thanks Herbert and Scott 👍

Yes in China when there was the Bird Flu, I was on vacation with my Son. Every check point was monitored with a laser temperature gauge to make sure you had no flu which may be bird flu a very infectious virus that kills

If you are getting into a gated community and have to dial a phone number for the gate to open, how does rhe robo taxi do this, or how does a robo taxi get a parking lot ticket and how does it scan when comin coming out from a parking lot.

Gas Sensor is there for ozone - ozone clearly all kinds of aggressive smell oncluding smoke and sanitizes the car at 100 %. It’s the only logical step

The internal camera could scan the inside after every journey to check for foreign bodies, either litter left behind, or belongings. They could then add a small charge if litter is left in the vehicle, which would require the car the waste time going to a cleaning facility. It could also warn people if they have left belongings in the car, reducing the hassle of tracking down owners of lost property

Hey why not have a robotaxi with first aid capablities like a defibrillator that can be used. A robotaxi with first responder equipment on the ready for the general public. Even have a tourniquet cause when a vehicle is in motion accidents occur. What better way than to have safety equipments on the ready. I was a medic in Vietnam, you be surprised how many in the public have first responder skills. A loud speaker system in the robo taxi car can call for assistant.

Hmmm... if Cybercab will have all this disinfection capability who would ever want to take a ride in someone's private Tesla that they put in the fleet? Maybe for longer trips where more room would be appreciated? However these disinfection systems will delineate the Cybercabs owned and operated by Tesla from the privately owned cars added to the fleet. I think once the public sees how clean the Cybercabs are they will not want to ride in anything else.

Don't forget animals such as a dog has better smell sensor by 100X compared to a human. Can a piece of equipment or dog be used to make sure the car is clean???

No everybody does not have allergies. Now that everyone wants to sanitize everything it’s amazing how many people are coming down with allergies. You guys are smart enough to connect the dots.

What about the back seat of a taxi. None of that is sanitized

Automated sanitation and environmental purification is wonderful! Sadly, there will always be the classic nightmare of movie theatre trash on, and underneath the seats! This will only be cleaned manually via a human attendant, or perhaps ultimately Optimus! If no one is watching in a RoboCab, human nature unfortunately will be such that trash will be discarded and left in the vehicles. Our city & town streets and highways, as well as our precious waterways and oceans are another real life example of how ignorantly and disgracefully trash is improperly disposed! YMMV.

The biggest problem a RoboTaxi will have is if garbage s left in the car & it will require a person or Humanoid robot to clean the garbage out of the car & they can charge the passenger for the cleaning of the car.

This signals a profound transformation in how we establish trust and authenticity in the digital realm.

This self-sanitizing nonsense will end up on the junk pile along with lidar. Elon will realize that making the car more expensive by introducing complicated devices that drain the battery are unnecessary. Do we sanitize the chairs in a restaurant every time someone sits down? No. Do we sanitize every seat on the bus or train every time someone sits down? No do we sanitize the airplanes every time the plane lands? No. It's completely unnecessary. The only thing that's necessary for these robo taxis is some sort of a depot where they go to charge and you have someone working for minimum wage who gives it a quick wipe down once a day. You open all the doors and get a high-powered leaf blower to get all the debris out. And then you simply wipe it down with sanitizing spray. But it doesn't need a self sanitizing device that will break and make the vehicle more complicated and drain the battery. The cost of the minimum wage employees will be paid by whoever is running the charging station. There's no reason Tesla wants to deal with all of the labor nonsense involved. It would be far better to simply subcontract that out to gas station chains who would pay the entire cost of building these depots. It's too much of a financial investment for Tesla to build these out worldwide. You need to be able to sign a contract with a large regional supplier. We must remember that Tesla is a robotics/AI company, not a labor and service company. The servicing of the vehicles would be as low margin as the restaurant business, requiring labor and maintenance of equipment. Tesla has no interest in being involved in this sort of business. Keep the car simple and design it so that there are not a lot of cracks and crevices for french fries to hide. The seats should either be flush with the floor, just like the shower in your bathroom, or they should be propped up like the stainless steel prep tables in a commercial kitchen. You either need easy access or no access. But the seats should not be the same seats we use in legacy autos. For a robo taxi you do not need all of the 10-way adjustments and lumbar adjusters. Most of these will be for short rides only, just like riding the bus or train. You get what you get. The absolute best way to design the interior if they could do it would be to have preformed seat and floor all in one. Basically it would be a plastic injection molded kind of thing and the seat cushions would simply sit on top of it. You could pop the seat covers off and completely hose the thing out. Simplicity is the key. No part is the best part.

Hmmm… Tesla will record how many times you’ve passed gas, coughed, sneezed in their car. So they will be able to charge you based on their cleaning expense history with you…🫣 They should be able to advise you on your health status while you ride to your destination. They also have to restrict parents from putting young children in the Robotaxi without a child protection seat.
