I work for a firm that has 401k. I managed to put in 15 grand over that time end up loosing 3. When I quit, I converted the remaining 12 grand in IRA and dump it all in NVDA, TSLA stocks and call options with help from my F,A Rita Wildrin Mora, I'm up 160 grand, this has been a life saver.

I was ridiculously blown away when Elon said that they want to increase the physical efficiency of their factories. When you look around at factories today and you see that their spacious efficiency is garbage it's easy to see how one of Tesla's biggest advantage is their ability to recognize inefficiencies and solve those problems quickly and with innovative solutions.
@TecnamTwin
@TecnamTwin 2 года назад
The disadvantage to that is that we as humans are resistant to change, have nostalgia, and enjoy a certain amount of inefficiency on purpose. Case and point is the recent popularity of old school shaving kits. In the endless pursuit of efficiency, they leave behind a few customers for the old guard to scoop up with their more complicated and luxurious EV products and then everyone is happy (so long as production meets demand).

"Good idea, done" is literally the discussion process that occurs at Tesla when top management is presented with a good idea. But it is not just the structure of the company that allows such rapid change and progress, it is who they hire. There are likely at least 15,000 production associates working at Tesla who have a Bachelors or a Masters or even a PhD in engineering. One production associate I worked with was literally a rocket scientist. So Tesla is not depending on your standard B average high school diploma production workers to come up with new ideas for them from the factory floor in a stroke of random genius; instead every part of every factory is flooded with engineering minds on every shift, and that is on top of the people who are officially engineers at Tesla. This also means that you get the water cooler effect on the factory floor; people talking about their ideas and working together and having the expertise needed to solve problems, on the side while keeping production going.
@theodorehaskins3756
@theodorehaskins3756 2 года назад
I think you missed the point here! You should go back and check what Elon said about PhD‘s & those with engineering diplomas! I’ve worked with engineers and quite frankly I was not all that impressed, now am I saying that these guys are not valuable no, but what I am saying is that I think this company values all of its employees, not just those with PhD‘s & engineering diplomas!
@tribalypredisposed
@tribalypredisposed 2 года назад
@@theodorehaskins3756 I guess you are going out of your way to miss my point, actually. I do not have a Bachelors and they hired me, and I came up with an idea that they implemented. The smartest guy in our zone only graduated from high school and he regularly taught the official engineers how to do things. Yeah, Tesla is not credential driven, but if you have a degree in engineering and are willing to take a job as a production associate, they seem to like that. I certainly would expect a team of fifty that included twenty university trained engineers to come up with more ideas about how to improve production from the production floor than I would a team of fifty with zero engineers like one finds at every other automaker.
@theodorehaskins3756
@theodorehaskins3756 2 года назад

Elon don't care about degree..
@ke6gwf
@ke6gwf 2 года назад
@@theodorehaskins3756 I think one key difference is that the people with the training have more tools available to express and execute the concept. For instance, I have some inventions kicking around, such as a way to detect wiring faults and overloads in walls and cords but I don't have the skills to draw them up, design a working system, do patent searches etc. I can say "this box will do this" and I know enough about electronics to know what it can do, but I can't design a power supply or implement data over power line communications, but if I had the training, I could turn a concept into something that functions. So having an engineer on the factory floor helps speed up implementation of good ideas, including the ones from the non engineers like me.
@GoCoyote
@GoCoyote 2 года назад
The part about how internal communication is encouraged really hits home. I have seen so many people who do actual assembly work think up ways to make their job easier, but will never get anyone to seriously look into their ideas, since territorial power and risk adversity is more important to many managers than solving bigger picture problems. Many people may not have degrees, but are just as intelligent and capable of coming up with creative solutions.

@patrickhowden1601
@patrickhowden1601 2 года назад
So very true. To repeat your words "since territorial power and risk adversity is more important to many managers than solving bigger picture problems" I couldn't have put it better myself. I worked at car factory near Liverpool where team leaders supervisors and managers thought they where so much better than the workers that ideas where rarely listened to, dismissed, or sometimes even stolen to take the credit. These backward thinking cock suckers that the company promotes are the reason why they have stayed mired in the trenches of the status quo. It appears that Tesla is so far ahead that I wonder if one day all cars will be Tesla. Just a thought!

It’s not exactly a 1 to 1 comparison of timelines and who can catchup. Tesla started by themselves.. the rest of the industry has Tesla as an example so they won’t have to make all the same mistakes and research.. they can catch up faster.. they have the Tesla advantage of experience.. however, at the same time, I don’t think the auto industry respected what Tesla was doing so they didn’t pay attention and now it’s a little late for them to start because they are realizing what Tesla did was eat their lunch. He innovated in ways they didn’t expect.. now they are scrambling.. I hope they all crash 💥

I told them I had figured out how to shave 10 minutes off every job. 320 X 3 jobs a day = 160 hours a day, every day. They didn't think it was worth giving me even a small bonus for my idea.... This is the sort of mentality that competes against Tesla. There is is NO competition.

The general German attitude towards improving products/processes may help quite a bit. What we have needed aren't electric cars, but electric roads. EVs are the minimal solution needed temporarily, not the best long range solution. Cars should have batteries for off road activity only, recharged by solar power on the car. Furthermore, electric roads with their necessary support systems are a distribution network that can provide enough power for a nation by itself. Such a system has no emissions, no impact on ecology and could even actually clean the atmosphere. It's an investment for not only all Americans, but everyone in the world. If the battery for a Tesla is the heaviest and most expensive part of the auto then imagine needing only twenty percent of it. Less weight, less cost, greater power to weight ratio. The newer 4680 battery is more needed for large battery installation like the one Tesla built in Australia than for cars. Carrying energy to get from point A to B is inefficient inherently. Let the car have energy it doesn't need to carry.

Perhaps it would be good to quote transmission losses between them both. Plugging in I believe is around 98% efficient. If wireless transmission is less efficient then that takes more power which reduces the amount of renewable energy available for other things. You also have transmission losses from power station to the road, along the road, and between the road and the car. Phillip.

Tesla's a good co., for sure, but not the end all of EV's and batteries, and you're missing out on A LOT of other EV's which are incredible! Looks just like Edward W. Demings Quality Control Assurance program. Probably how Deming would have liked a manufacturing facility to run with an injection of an Elon Musk. What a model glad I've got some skin in the TESLA innovation party. Jim Chanos and Gordon Johnson coulda used a tour of the facilities before they decided to lose money shorting TESLA, HA!

Great video as always Lars. Love your work. By the way you got it correct of course, but for the guy Joe Justice in the video @ 9:15, the cars charge at 250kW NOT 250kWh. That hurts my ears. 🤔😮 Why do so many not understand the difference?

Little mention of the Boring Company but I think this is one of Elon's next moves. He always looks 10 years ahead. When he started, the idea of building your own charging network was a ridiculous idea. Now it is one of Tesla's main selling points. This will start to erode over the next 5-10 years, faster if he opens his own network to 3rd parties. Tesla is staying WAY ahead of the curve due to its rapid innovation. However over the next 5-10 year period it could come to the point that every feature from most manufacturers could all become "good enough". How do you then differentiate? If he could then open dozens of underground networks to all Tesla cars, suddenly that becomes a new USP. Want to buy another car and drive 1hr to work, or buy a Tesla and be there in 15 mins? Phillip.

Sir.......this may be your best video ever!!!!!! Fantastic look at a fantastic company. I love that musk admits to mistakes. Most CEO s and billionaires become narcissist s. They think because they succeeded at one thing or know one thing they can succeed at everything, know every thing. I am sure musk has his quirks......most geniuses are neurotic in the least........at the most they border on madness! Musk thought he could manufacture the Tesla relying more on robots. He was wrong,.....and the mistake almost bankrupted the company when he was in what he called......production hell! But he realized how expensive and time consuming it was to use the number of robots he had originally invisioned. So he reduced the number of robots decreasing his costs and production time. Sandy Munro had some issues with the early Tesla's. But inspection of subsequent models reveals Tesla fixed the it r mistakes! Munro says tesla inovates at the speed of thought! As u said Volkswagen and others need years! They will never catch up! Musk has repeatedly said......it is not about the car! The far just gives him cash to build other things. Musk uses the cars to build batteries. He uses the batteries for cars but also for power walls and mega packs. The biggest problem with solar power has been the storage of power for use after dark. Musk's uses of the power wall and mega pack will do more to bring about the adoption of solar......faster.....than all the bull crap coming out of Washington!!!!!!!!!.....musk......Tesla.......SpaceX.....true genius, and the hope of mankind that we reach ev use and solar use to prevent the extinction forecast by the UN s ipcc report!!!!!!!

Can other companies build EV's? Sort of. All the Tesla engineering and culture aside, they just can't make a comparable car and make ANY profit.

Just like to let you know. Tesla Model 3 is the people's choice in New Zealand for 2021. Model 3 also won the passenger car award for 2021. Hopefully we get Model Y next year. It will be interesting to see what it wins.

A car is basically a widget. Tesla is a widget maker. Their super power is speed of change, a large volume of smart people (bunch of rocket scientist) and focus on volume production. The secret to their success is the volume production. GM said they will release 20 models and then I see them making about low volume unit of each model makes me question how management they got their MBA's.

What a striking difference between Tesla and a company I worked for in 2010 (I would use their name, but don't want to be sued). I was told to never speak to the department head; never speak to the owner; never speak to anyone I didn't directly work with! It was a zoo of silos! It was the most depressing place I have ever worked, and I couldn't wait to leave. I'm 73 years old now, and would love to work with Tesla, or Space X. I enjoy working and still work, writing software. Having the freedom to create or change a process and see the results used in the organization is a great reward in itself.

Very nice and motivational video. Definitively has done a lot to change the car industry and gets all the credit for the introduction and success of EVs in the market. Never the less in my view Toyota should get credit for their pioneer continuous improvement program (benchmark for many industries). Further it is still obvious that Tesla has not (yet) reached the "build quality" of leaders such as VW or BMW.

Tesla is a completely NEW business design which is why they have been so successful. Sadly the legacy makers ONLY have a chance is if they embrace the Tesla Way. Otherwise they are building steam engines and will fade into history like all those old machine makers have done so in the past. Grow and stay relevant or keep doing what you are doing and fade away. They quite simply CANNOT compete. Tesla is running the market and nobody else is doing what they are doing and that is what they need to do to even hope to compete in some small way. Tesla is literally charging ahead with innovations and GM is still building their version of the Model T.

Probably an exaggeration, but there is some truth in the video. I see some other major advantages. Tesla's connection with SpaceX is one big one. No other car company has an affiliate shooting rochets into space (and landing them!) There is some untouchable technology there and some of that tech is already getting into the cars.. Another is their charging network. They are everywhere and other networks have nowhere near the numbers or the geographical spread. Yes, Tesla has an effective manufacturing philosophy, but its other endeavors are also unprecedented.

Apple stopped innovating when Steve jobs died. I think Tesla will continue to outlive Elon because of the mission of sustainable innovation is never ending. Apple had a mission to produce better electronic products but there is a point of diminishing returns there. Maybe one day Apple will get a truly great leader who sets them on a mission to help humans attain god like level of awareness, or something that removes any thoughts of violence.

What their supposed competition does not seem to understand is that there is some new innovation or technology coming out almost every day. If you are not aware of this and using it to your advantage then your business will fail. You will fall so far behind that you will not be able to compete.
