Tesla Employees Thought They Were Being Transferred, But When Clocking In To Work, It Didn't Work

When Tesla employees went to clock in to work this morning, it didn't work. An email followed an hour later, saying they were terminated. Can you imagine that? Being laid off in such a way?
Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent out a memo to employees saying the company is preparing for its next phase of growth, citing costs, and reductions in increasing productivity as driving factors.
In that memo, Musk also said, "there’s nothing more I hate, but it must be done.” As he communicated to a massive 15,000 employee Tesla job cuts, he said "it is very difficult to say goodbye."

They got rid of the low performers, I don't want them working on a car I might drive, also I don't want them to have a few weeks to do an even worse job attaching *or not* bolts.

That’s a good way. It would be hard to sit down 10% of their workforce all at once.

I think after this round of layoffs it would be harder for Tesla to keep its workers from joining unions.

Are there no notice periods in the USA? In Germany, the normal notice period is 3 months, and in many cases it is longer.

They didn't give notice so personal can't take trade secrets with them, people had a habit of doing that to Tesla before, sooo...🤷🏿‍♂️🤨

I think Tesla has to come up with a new way of doing this so it can respect its workers even more. Who would like to work in such a company that every 5 years may treat you like that?

USA Tesla manufacturing quality at the legendary Fremont factory has been appalling since the beginning. Not even Toyota was able to change it succesfully and eventually left it too. It's the human capital to some degree but Elon made wrong decissions and choices too

In the USA it's normal not to give notice if you're being laid off or fired for cause. Employers worry about disgruntled employees lashing out at in the workplace or other employees

Something needs to be done about this. Perhaps there is another better way to do it?

What is the easiest thing to do to reduce costs in a company of that size? Lay off staff, especially if the cost of the layoff is virtually non-existent. Tesla's famous truck is proving to be a headache, even though they say there is a waiting list for delivery. Tesla has stock to cumulative of hundreds of undelivered units, there is no clear explanation why. A couple of weeks ago, two key Tesla executives resigned, which makes me think there is more going on inside Tesla.

Quick hint, anytime someone calls Tesla a “car company”, just realize they don’t know anything about Tesla.

the personal situation for the laidoffs is one bad point, the other is that those who have a good skill and a little bit of pride, will NOT go back to Tesla once they need again people ( may be they go to the competition and implement here what they have learned at Tesla...). A time reduction for all workers to keep everyone on board and give retraining to "use" this workers in new functions would have been much better. Elon makes the situation even worse: People with a social side will NOT by a Tesla after the company did this move.

Tesla is in a lot of trouble - horrible trouble. Elon got the company into this mess and I doubt he has the skills to get the company out of this mess. BEVs are dead worldwide Elon has know this for a year now BEVs ran out of "Early adopters" like me the mass of potential customers left want nothing to do with range and charging anxiety, which plaques BEVs Toyota is now the front-runner in the hybrid market and that's what the mass of folks want - just get in the car and go Since Elon put ALL his eggs in the BEV basket and has no backup hybrid to sell Elon has to fire more employees and close plants and sell them for cash Maybe Toyota will buy one to make hybrids out of and to top it off Elon wants $55 billion to take TSLA from a $400/share stock down to $100/share and now it has crawled back $60 Heck I'd do that for just $1 Billion This is only going to get worse for TSLA of which I am a stockholder Yes, I'm a pissed-off Tesla Model Y owner and stockholder in TSLA

Give someone 2 weeks notice of being fired? Let them sift through files for two weeks and spread bad feelings around the workplace. This is one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve ever heard. Truly an exceptionally ignorant opinion from someone that has clearly never employed anyone.

If they don't get notice then they should be paid out as a redundancy. It's what has happened to me a couple of times, I got the required notice or more and still did my job. Maybe you're just a corporate kiss ass?

@@staunchlyspeaking Nope warehousing at a site that produced top end product for worldwide markets. We were losing staff for many many years at different times and due to our agreement if they didn't give you the required notice they had to pay it out instead. No one that I knew of did the wrong thing in that time as there was a lot of money riding on it for most people.
