I did want to tell you and your audience that my Model Y saved my life and an elderly couples life the other day. I was backing up on a one way street and a couple was behind me and i didn’t see them at all and I was on the accelerator and the car totally slammed on the brakes and stopped on a dime for these people. Saved them and me for a double vehicular homicide! I’m so grateful

Thanks for another great video. Today driving with FSD 12.3.6 the car slowed from 50 kph to 20 kph for no apparent reason. Then I realized there was a police cruiser with lights flashing blocking the side road I was about to pass. Once we passed it the car sped up to 50 kph again. It seemed as though FSD recognized and reacted to the cop car. I was totally surprised.

5:09 depending on circumstances if I’m driving over the speed limit and a car starts tailgating me, I usually slow down to the speed limit. If we come to a place in the road where it is safe, I’ll pull over and let them go ahead. I don’t continue blasting down the road with a car on my butt that I know cannot stop as quickly as I may need to.

In some places, those short length right lanes are to let faster traffic pass on the left. I can understand if FSD can't understand those right lanes. There would need to be a special sign, or specific instruction on the maps for those special circumstances. Also, It may be too far for the camera to see the end of the lane.Those lanes, to me, seem like a tougher problem to solve.

the US is weird with its fetish for signs you have to read. Makes it real hard for computers and non english speakers to deal with traffic signage. Over here we have almost exclusively pictogram based signage and you learn almost all in your drivers ed. Much easier and quicker to parse and also easier to recognize by a computer. Lke that speedlimit ending ? That would simply be the number 55 with a 45 deg double line over it and being gray. So easy. As for why you would put up a sign of a speedlimit ending over putting up a sign that tells you the new speedlimit. It could be useful if the general speedlimit is changed for example then you dont have to update those signs.

It is not fixed until it reads the sign correctly. 35 Ends means the speed limit is 55. I have a road close to me where the actual speed limit is 55, there is no sign and the car displays the speed limit as 40 and then at a certain spot, with no sign, it drops it down to 25. There have to be issues with the map data. That combined with all the "speed zone ends" signs around here makes driving with FSD very frustrating.

That short right lane that your (and my) Tesla just can’t resist sometimes is called a “Bypass Lane”. We have those here in Minnesota too. In 12.3.6 that’s one of the biggest reasons I don’ give FSD demo drives. That and the right turn lanes that FSD also can’t resist even though the navigation is straight ahead and the visualizations shown a right turn lane with clearly visible right turn arrows. Sigh.

Same here. What’s been your experience if there is a vehicle turning? Will it go around it or just stop and wait till it’s clear to proceed? I rarely get to experience an actual vehicle stopping to turn. When I did back in the V11 days, it would just stop. It’s more like it can’t see what’s beyond the vehicle to determine if it’s safe to go around. This is where a good radar might help.

V12.3.6 for me seems to drive very good but it is horrible with turn signals and speed limits. Autopilot was better with speed limits. Other than that the only real issue with driving is when it cant decide what lane to take when the lane splits and camping in the left lane. If those could be fixed I would be happy with it. Some other improvements would be more distance from the car in front at speed and at rest. Sometimes it does get too close.
@JLars

Pretty sure the going to the right lane is probably due to map data. The map probably shows the right lane as the correct lane to follow?? Bad map data would be the main reason is would persist across versions.

@13:37 the visualization shows a separate lane, two lane road although it clearly was not correct. Wonder if it would show as two lanes on google maps or a different map tool. It will be interesting how FSD reconciles bad map data versus what the car actually sees. Can drivers reports errors and then they get updated or the car see and make corrections so you have close to real time fixes. There is road construction or changes to lane markings happening all over all the time.

There should be a way to set preferences in the map. One of the roads near my house has a really bumpy right lane, but the car always gets in that lane before turning right later. 18:40 "this unmarked stuff here, this used to always be the problem...im talking a long time ago, 2 years ago." My 3 *still* does this on the roads here in Colorado. The problem is the state here opens up from 1 lane to 2 lanes and doesnt include a dotted line to differentiate the two as it widens, so the car pulls right, and then when it realizes its a turning lane yanks the wheel back HARD to get back in the straight lane. Its awful.

@@DerekDavis213 Center turn lanes are NOT easy for humans. They are called suicide lanes for a reason. They have a notoriously high fatality rate. Chuck's unprotected left turns are not easy for humans. Center turn lanes are far more difficult and far more dangerous. For example, with an unprotected left you can simply wait for a gap in the traffic. You can't do that with a center turn lane because you are traveling at speed in the passing lane. If you slow down or stop you will cause an accident. Another problem is traffic entering the area from other directions may want to use the same part of the center turn lane you need. So has 12.4.1 *finally* started to use regen braking like we human drivers do? That would be really great, as braking is much too late and hard (I can’t count the number of situations where my M3 is accelerating towards cars with their brake lights on).

I have a weird theory that it cannot really understand the lights due to their frequency. I was behind a vehicle yesterday and it kept visualizing one of the brake lights as a turn signal, it was stop and go traffic and sometimes it would read the brake lights as brake lights, other times it would read one as a turn signal (always the left one)

Why have a system where people have to just remember/know what the default is for the city/county/state?

11:51 This is definitely a "conspiracy theory"... but I always wonder when driving with FSD (this, and when v11 kept changing lanes at bad times) whether it's testing you to see when you'll intervene, as a way to train e.g. the cabin camera "attentiveness" detection. Like it's trying to get metrics on how people who respond within 2-3 seconds differ from people who respond in 10 seconds.

What is the point of now defaulting to showing so little map and making the virtual view so big? It drives me nuts - the route is far more important (esp quick tap for whole route and viewing traffic on current route and nearby roads) than what is in the VR view (which you should not be watching anyway).

I don't know how common those speed limit "ends" signs are but I've never seen one. Why would anyone put up a sign with a random number and say "this is NOT the speed limit". OK, what IS the speed limit? As someone with a minor in psychology, I can say that you never want to use negative signage that tells someone what something is NOT when you can easily tell them what that same thing IS.

Why don't you deactivate the speeding function and just scroll up if you're legally allowed to be faster than what the car detects? I think that's a more realistic testing, instead of breaking the law all the time.
@DirtyTesla

I've considered it but I want the most automation settings enabled as possible. Then if I'm changing the speed, boom intervention. But I'll experiment with it
@RubenKelevra
@RubenKelevra 3 месяца назад
@@DirtyTesla yeah that's my point. It needs a lot of baby sitting and this needs to stop. So it's fine to count these interventions if the car is unable to drive by the law on a street. While it might be not an issue to speed in the US, because it's rarely enforced by police, that's not gonna fly well in most other parts of the world. So yes, the car needs to adhere to speed limits or you'll get tickets pretty quickly, here in Germany. If we would get a function like this which goes 25 km/h faster than allowed, you may very well loose your driver license within a month. Given that is, that relying on non-functional police force in the US is not a good test case for FSD, if you consider that this software is supposed to work everywhere well.

Had it 4 times today. Two motorcycles coming onto my side of the road in the tight corners - at least Tesla thought so. Actually it was right but i know how tight they love to drive. One truck swerving from the right, i guess he was occupied with sexting and one car not knowing where his side of the road ends. I gave the car driver with fresh knickers when i closed the distance even further. A-Holes all of them!

What I don't understand is how can Tesla require that hands be kept on the wheel (it says to do this when this version of FSD is first turned on), but people are calling this version "hands free". What it is is "steering wheel nag free" (if the computer can see your eyes), which means you no longer have to jiggle the wheel... but we're still supposed to be loosely holding onto the wheel. Omar says he normally holds the wheel when using FSD when not making a video, but when making a video he doesn't hold it (so people cans plainly see the car is driving itself). But isn't this potentially dangerous? And bottom line: Tesla is saying to keep hands on the wheel when using FSD (for now).
@BigBen621
@BigBen621 3 месяца назад
You apparently don't have V12.4.1, or the Spring Update. Since these updates, it no longer says this. Here's what it says now: "[FSD (Supervised)] must be used with additional caution and an attentive driver. It does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become complacent. Cabin Camera is used to detect driver attentiveness while FSD (Supervised) is in-use to provide you with audible alerts, reminding you to keep your eyes on the road. By continuing, you allow cabin camera to determine inattentiveness and remind you to keep your eyes on the road when FSD supervised is active." No mention of hands on the wheel.

@@BigBen621 Thanks for the info. But one video ago, Chris did mention that each time when he turns on FSD (12.4.1), a balloon comes up on the screen reminding the user to "keep hands on wheel". This is why I said what I said. If Tesla no longer pops that balloon up each time FSD is engaged, then I stand corrected.
