Another fine example of absolute horrible dangerous roadway infrastructure, found all across America where vested interests more concerned about making money than people not dying put in four way lighted intersections instead of roundabouts which are 400% safer and minimum 20% more efficient as proven in multiple studies from different states in America and other countries. 6 way intersections are an absolutely insane relic of the past but we still have them instead of converting them to roundabouts. We're just now getting away from traditional stack interchanges which are again dangerous and inefficient, whereas the diverging diamond interchanges are safer and more efficient, there are several now in places around where i live and it's so much better. Four way lighted intersections are dangerous pieces of shit, especially due to human behavior people being impatient speeding up to get through a yellow when they should be slowing down because there's not enough time to make it through the intersection but no people don't care they still keep going turn left after the light is over blocking the other direction of travel as if they care, bunch of selfish asshole driving out there.

This is legal in some places, particularly urban areas. Some places you have to wait for pedestrians to clear the intersection, some places they only need to get to the center point.

If this was a turn i had to make, especially if it was a frequent turn, i would be looking for a different route to take. Stuff like this makes me wish all cars were ai piloted. It would make the roads way safer and reduce traffic in an ideal world.

@@painengineer a normal algorithm using pre written code can only account for a limited number of cases, while AI is trained to handle a variety of tasks without developers having to specifically account for those tasks, i'm not saying it's perfect but it's way better at this kind of stuff than a regular script would be. What makes you think i don't know anything about AI?
In Malaysian urban areas there are so many cars that during rush hours you literally won’t be able to pass for hours if you follow the right of way rule. You’re just supposed to slowly edge out and force one of the cars to slow down for you
That's a problem in "developed" nations like North America because if someone sees you disobey the right of way rule they try to crash into you to get money. They don't want to avoid an accident, the average person will see a car pull out and speed up with the intent to crash. It is probably why a lot of foreigners get in accidents. They don't realize 7/10 people see you nudge out or block traffic and think "death battle".

All we know is that the car decided to go, after creeping into the intersection , blocking the crosswalk in the process, when there were other cars not coming. We have no idea what role the pedestrians played in it’s logic. Maybe the pedestrians played no role.
I think the ai actually just recognized the opening in traffic and took the chance to go. At no point did it “use them as meat shields”, it just understood the direction of travel and figured it had time to cross too.

Wow! That's amazing that the car can figure that out. I do that on a busy intersection where I have a stop sign in the through Street doesn't and whenever pedestrians cross I kind of crossed the road with them. Cool that the car picked up on that

As a Mexican this is funny, I just drive like it’s a game of chicken until other people let me go through cause I’m almost bumping them, then my lane has right of pass until someone in the other lane does the same I did and the cycle goes on

@Petr Nedvěd there are lights with sensors.. then the principal one stays always green and when a car comes from the side and stops to the light it get detected and then turn green..
@@ThatComputerGuyRyan potentially that could happen or they could have been fine. It’s hard to tell from the video. There was one opening but it was vey narrow and the driver would have be very confident and decisive to execute that.

Holy cow, that intersection is wild. Your video doesnt show, but the traffic from the right is elevated and behind a barrier, too. TBH, I have made this turn a few times, and try to avoid it because of what a problem it is (no breaks in traffic since its a slow goad fed by much larger roads). This is pretty amazing.

In California, that manouver, crossing behind a pedestrian, is legal. The crosswalk isn't particularly important in the legal sense. Vehicles must always yield to pedestrians crossing the road. Yeilding to a pedestrian means not crossing their path of travel when they are crossing the road. Once the paths of travel no longer conflict, you are free to go, even if the pedestrian hasn't reached the curb yet.
@@DavidCiani it’s only legal in California and a small amount of other states so making the AI do it is poor judgment. In the majority of the country driving through a crosswalk while pedestrians are in it is illegal period. It’s for good reason why leave it to the drivers judgement that they have enough room or time to avoid hitting a pedestrian.

Also illegal. The car went through the crosswalk while the pedestrians were still in it. Legally, the car has to wait for them to actually leave the crosswalk. Nobody does that, but that's how the law is written.
Yes but where I’m from it’s illegal to drive through a pedestrian crosswalk while it’s being used. Even if they already passed your lane you need to wait for them to be fully off the road.
It really is cool know those cameras watch everything and communicate all of that info and then an ai is using it to make decisions in a real environment is cool
Why don't you call the new call of duty game a miracle? Ai will eventually glitch that's what happens. It's literally all just code and numbers. It's responses to problems already solved by humans. This is a bad invention
@@rad1calracoon713 if AI 'glitches' less often than humans cause collisions (spoiler it definitely does cuz the AI is programmed to play it extra safe to not get Tesla sued for damages), that's still an upgrade

Just out of curiousity, where are you from? Where I am (US, more specifically Indiana), people only stop when the light starts flashing and immediately go after the person crosses their car (just like this video). There’s really no point in waiting unless another pedestrian is about to cross tbh
@@logank Alberta, Canada. If the road is divided, you can drive through one half of the crossing if the other is occupied, but on a road with 2-way traffic the pedestrians must leave the roadway before your car enters the crossing.

its a two way lane, at some point you'll have to clog no matter what. both approaches will take the same time regardless, you all waste fuel all the same.
I'll give it a few minutes, sometimes. The only problem is that one of the two entrances into my subdivision is on a major road and is a No-Hesitation on both sides. There is hardly a way to avoid it.

Oh so this is where I heard this from. I was driving a couple weeks ago and saw someone crossing a crosswalk when I couldn’t really see to my right that much, it was a small road so likely no cars but I couldn’t be sure. Anyway I waited for the person to cross to my right so that I could turn left without having to worry about another car as they would stop for the pedestrian anyway.
@@mubbywub not quite, it has more basic rules: 1. don’t run over pedestrians 2. Don’t enter the road when cars are coming. The end result is the same….. but people are giving the tesla too much credit here.

@Pyramidion probably not, most people just really SUCK at driving lol. Our licensing requirements should be much harder, but at the same time, an unsafe and not release-ready ai really shouldn't be in the hands of consumers. It's interesting to see the advances but it's clearly not ready yet lol.
You’ll see that the Tesla saws the steering wheel a lot, even when it’s sitting at an intersection like it’s trying to decide, “Do I want to go left or right or straight a little bit left or a little bit right?” Watch the steering wheel on get jerked around like a NASCAR driver of a small track.
Tesla FSD v12 is so much better than the public knows, the real problem is that the automobile industry ecosystem and media know this and have done everything they can to downplay and ignore it.
