Giga Texas construction update 14 August 2020. Work continues at a fast pace and the site had changed dramatically in just over 3 weeks since construction start. In this video we show the corrected phase I site boundaries of 280 acres (about 113 hectacre), discuss flooding concerns that many viewers have had and see that they are now starting to do some drilling on the north part of the site. The south area is also transforming quickly with the last remaining ponds beginning to drain and a lot of earth filling and leveling has taken place.
I hope this video will help viewer see just how fast they are working and how quickly changes happen on a daily basis and how huge the undertaking is to build Giga Texas.
Thank you for watching and I hope this has been informative, educational and entertaining for you. If viewers would like, please consider supporting me via Patreon (link is in the description of this video and in the video itself) so I can continue to make and share these incredible videos.

Looks like they are rerouting that small power line that crisscrosses this area. As always setting a high standard that no one here or in Berlin comes close to. Jason in Shanghai started this but you have taking this storytelling to a whole new level. Congratulations. Thank you.

The drilling rig has "Geopier" on the back of it. Judging by the big pile of aggregate, and the little bulldozers with the small buckets on the front, they might be using Geopier's Rammed Aggregate Pier system - basically drill a relatively shallow hole and fill it with gravel, packing down each gravel layer with an appropriately sized ramming rig (which hasn't shown up on site yet). They can put in a lot of these (thousands) very fast (in a few weeks) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7MeQDepkyXo.html

Another great video with wonderful information. I suspect the elevation changes are still being made on the north end. They do have fairly large mounds/hills to bring down and can use the material from them to bring up the low spots. One thing to note is I think the very beginning of the earthwork was started around the time of the Tesla Q2 earnings call, July 22, so all the progress has been done in a little over three weeks. Amazing.

What an excellent job. Living below sea level in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, I'm a sucker for this kind of information. I dont't think they're drilling there. It's rather sounding the resistance or density of the bottom by driving giant needles into it. With the resulting metrics the properties of the foundation can be calculated.

The view from 6:20 to 6:35 shows a great shot of the flood potential in the area with the extra bridge length compared to the normal river size. I imagine the finished site work will at a minimum include a berm level with the Hwy that surrounds the actual factory while leaving a similar volume of space of potential river flood volume. Great work with your channel.

My wild guess is that we are seeing evidence of a significant reduction in time to project completion. The paint shop, pressing and casting buildings take far longer to build, so the white diamond area is probably the start of these buildings. The general assembly parts of the buiding can catch up later, there is no need to drain every last pond, ( or wait for every last bat to leave their tree nest as they did in Germany) before getting going on building.
@delkroupa
@delkroupa 4 года назад
I hope that they will do the footings and bases for the columns on top of the final base grade, then fill in between them, like they did in Berlin. That would put the final factory floor about 4-5 ft. above the grade of the white area shown, if that is one of the factory's building locations. Every foot above the "100 year flood zone" is a plus. There have been too many 100 year floods lately that have done billions in damage, and climate change makes it worse, and more frequent. I lived about 30 miles north of the Austin site for years, and personally saw some huge downpours. Keep in mind that the buildings and paved areas are impermeable to rain, and rapidly contribute to any flooding.
@jamesbruce1183
@jamesbruce1183 4 года назад
Joe - That is outstanding. Great coverage. Yes they will relocate the small power line near the south end. As far as the drilling goes, I would think it is for soil sampling. It's really important to get the soil strength right. But those drills do not look like they would leave the soil intact for testing. I would look for a tool that produces a core of undisturbed soil. If they were drilling for piers, I would expect tubes to be present to lower into the hole to prevent cave in and I would also expect steel for reinforcement in the piers. So I have no idea why the drills. The highway level is surveyed to just about never flood. I'd want to stick with that level for the factory to ensure no flooding but it would require an enormous amount of dirt. Maybe they will build on stilts and have covered parking.

See what Eric Guidry has to say about this. "Coring drills are much smaller, typically, that looks to be prepping for some sort of footing or piling it looks like to my untrained eye a continuous flight auger as described here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aAZoTG0EY3U.html but that's a guess."

I think the white aggregate and the extended contiguous soil area to the south-southeast is the first fully prepped area at the target elevation. It makes sense to me to take a quickly prepped area and start the next stage of progress rather than waiting for the whole site to be prepped. This way they can keep progressing all areas in parallel and this area will get finished first, then get expanded as other areas are prepped to this level. I've seen this in Berlin and Shanghai videos. The small power lines seem to go to a device near the highway. I haven't been able to tell if it crossed the highway. At it's height, I doubt it. I think the line crews are simply removing it because it it might have been abandoned by the previous user. This would really simplify things. It's probably taken this long for the line crews to get scheduled and get out there to simply remove the line.
@petergraphix6740
@petergraphix6740 4 года назад
From both the machines sitting on that pad, and from what I'm reading about floating piers, the aggregate will have the foundation of a large building built on top of it. The piers won't be directly attached to the foundation itself.

The white stuff is a process to lime treating the soil to dry it or making it achieve certain properties. It's cheaper to do this sometimes instead of hauling the entire layer of bad dirt out or bringing in new dirt from outside .

I think they have to reroute The powerline, close to the Interstate, otherwise, it makes not a lot of sense, because it looks like that a big area to the opposite side is way higher this should come down to get more Material to fill in the Front. The gravel in the center I think is a barrier for more mash later it can be an illusion in the Video but it looks still too low. Just guessing of course, but it is kind of fun to think with it as it goes. GREAT VIDEOS thanks

Yes, they do prefer their factories to be oriented to true North, as it makes it easier to map locations inside the factory and have automated vehicles navigating the factory using gps. Not that adding a layer of remapping is necessarily rocket science, really... Good also for setting up roof-top solar cells. The drills are for a relatively new foundation making technique whereby you drill down to where the soil gets firm and hard, whether bedrock, dinosaur bones or buried pyramids it doesn't matter as long as you reach hard bottom. Then you fill the hole with fresh concrete mix. You can place the holes as far or as closely spaced as you want, depending on the strenght you need. At its best, you can drill overlapping holes (as long as the concrete in the previus hole is not fully hardened yet), and effectively make underground walls. Given that this area is flood prone, I'm sure they want to make sure they are finding deep support. They may also be planning to raise factory floor off the ground, Venice-like. Just a thought...
@haroldz9915
@haroldz9915 4 года назад
I think the factory will be built on land that is below the level of the existing roads. And there may be several levels of land, for example, the two sides of the high power lines. This level may be above the Colorado river flood level. But this brings up the question of how storm water will drain from the site. I think it will have to be pumped up hill as well as the sewage.

Great video and presentation, the slides at the beginning confirms my thinking... This is a bad location to build any type of factory let alone one with high electronic usage.. In one of your slide I saw what should have been the biggest red flag.. FEMA flood zone designation and those ponds/canals were cut to slow down the flow of water on both sides of that highway... Folks we all want Tesla to succeed but this is crazy every hurricane entering the golf has the potential to wreck havoc to the area as a tropical storm... If you want proof just google floods in Austin and you'll agree. There are so many areas in TX whose risk is none existent... If it was up to me Elon should issue a STOP ORDER and find a new suitable site..... One breach and it will make Fremont's shutdown look like a sleep over... Look at the grade level its at the same level as the river or close to it..... How can you have a run-off of water at the same grade levels as the river.... I don't see it 2 things I tell folks when buying land look at the heights of Railroad tracks and main highways they are always 10'-25' above 100 year flood levels. Now compare that highway with the land nearby....

@@joycetowsley7059 Power lines in Texas, but lots of cranes around Berlin now, so either location you have to be aware of altitude and surroundings.

The picture is very fragmented. One cannot look at any part of the object calmly. And these constant rushes ... They irritate. Half the time is eaten up by recalling previous states, that's too much. Permanent inscriptions distract and spoil the landscape. Everything is good when it is in moderation. Anyway, thanks for the effort.
