The Tesla Large Drive Units are infamous about their achilles heel, the failing Glycol seal on the rotor shaft. Cousing Isolation Leaks errors and eventually the complete destruction of the motor/inverter itself.
Here is a quick way to check the motor for any signs of a failed water seal inside the Tesla Sport or Base LDU.
At www.autofranzen.nl we service, replace and trade used Tesla Drive Units located in The Netherlands.

We have a bypass kit that will fix the issue before it gets to the rotor and inverter.

Wouldn’t it be possible to just drill a small hole in the buttom with a plastic tube to let the coolant drip out? Or even make 2 holes and force air through one of them to dry things out, without even taking the unit off the car?

Before you start getting faults the whole thing will be corroded. Catch it early and you could get away with only vacuum drying the whole unit.

This is 11 years old and didn't fail? Thought there was a recall on them due to high failure rate. Glad to see what this looks like inside... just waiting to fail.

Condensation everywhere so the seal failed allright. However the car was still operative without any loss of isolation.

On top of the label, you see RMN which stands for remanufactured. Apparently those are the worst and they will fail after about 100.000km. There is a 3 lipped seal from China which some shops use also they install a drain for both motor and inverter.

Check out the solution QC charge has created for this issue. I was worried about this being an issue on my model 3 but I guess not?
