The sound of his voice has always been a signature of the band..They are an EXCELLENT rock band and I would STILL pay to see their show..Thanks guys for keeping it rollin'..Brings back fond memories from an awesome period of time..Just like the finest wine,you guys get better as you age..
Lol, but thats the first thing that i asked! What happened to his voice?! Ive loved this song since it was first released and still love it and just got through playing the video for this song from back in the music days of MTV and no, absolutely not, his vouce doesnt sound like this. Think he swallered himself a mouse!😮
They still sound awesome live. A very underrated band, in my view. I saw them for the first time back in the late 1980's and they're probably tighter now than they were back then.
What are you doing here if your'e just going to rip on Tesla? You sing your ass off for 30 years and see how good you sound. He has had to modify his approach let's say. Anyway Sacramento loves Tesla. Best band we ever had!
I have to agree with those who said that he always sounded like that....Tesla was about dirty rock and that voice kinda made them who they were. And looking back, they put out some great feel good songs.
I have this on DVD. I have enjoyed over the past eight years. I have a girlfriend that can sing her ass off and she can sing every song like she wrote them. Thanks for the ass Tesla and memories.
Wow!!! Who are ALL these people ripping on Jeff's voice? He HAD THE FRIGGEN FLU! That being said...He sounded great, and gave it his ALL as THEY Always have. The greatest heartfelt music...Then AND now...
I met Jeff back when they opened for Poison. I was a bellman at the hotel they were in. He needed his laundry done and I took him to one near the University. When I picked him up, he asked If I was coming to the show. Me: "Idd love too but I cant even pay rent this month at this point!" Jeff: "give me your name and last 4, hit the will call window. " Two tickets and backstage passes. He is one hell of a great and humble guy.

Just watched an 1988 live version of this song by them and his voice has definitely changed, not fooling me. But will always love Tesla and especially this song. Brings back some good memories.
I love to play along with some of their songs, especially What You Give. Originally recorded in standard E but as time has gone on Ive watched performances with it tuned down to D# and now D. He has lost much of his voice unfortunately and they tune down to accomodate it. Id still go back and see them again though. Best heavy metal of the 80s!
I was trying to figure out why his voice seemed familiar. You pegged it! I love Tesla, and always have, but in this video, he could of replaced Cartman's voice, and no one would of known the difference! :)
I ended up looking up this song as I saw the New Pornographers rip it off on their Letterman performance. I thought I'd find a live version to make a fair comparison. It looks like the band is exceptionally tight and Troy was nailing it, but my heart goes out to the singer.

@@paintsplatta99 Yeah, i just read that and listened to Ph.d's version. Blew my mind since i always thought this was Tesla's song. But in truth, to me it still is Tesla's song. I love that harder drive to the sound that Tesla gives it.

We are hearing it with no effect you hear his raw voice effect covers little things like your hearing plus he. Took care of his voice like a drunk takes care of kids lol the tuning in dropped a whole step he cant sing in the origional tuning happens with alot of singer
