Model 3 Checklist: www.teslachecklists.com/model-...
Model 3 Overview
The #Tesla #Model3 is an all-electric car & currently the most affordable Tesla. It’s one of the best selling mid-size premium sedans in the US. It’s made of aluminum & steel, scoring 5 stars in every safety category. It has the lowest probability of injury by any car ever tested by the NHTSA. It has many unique design elements including an all glass roof, minimalist interior with a 15” center touch screen that controls almost everything, and an exterior with sleek aesthetics that focuses on maximizing aerodynamics.
Pricing & Options
There are 3 current configurations: Rear Wheel Drive starting at $46,000, Dual Motor AWD starting at $53,000, and Dual Motor Performance starting at $64,000. The Long Range battery on both dual motor options has an estimated range of 310 miles. Mid range battery has an estimated range of 260 miles. The future 2019 base Model 3 will be RWD with a standard range battery of 220 miles for $35,000. The single motor & non-performance dual motor options come standard with 18” Aero wheels (19” Sport wheels upgrade is $1500). All Dual Motor Performance Model 3s come with 20” performance wheels. All Model 3 configurations come with black premium interior package but you can upgrade to white for $1,000. Any paint color besides black will cost at least an additional $1,500. Enhanced AutoPilot is Tesla’s partial self driving feature & costs $5000 when ordering or you can order it after delivery for $7000. All Model 3 purchases require a $1200 destination fee. I think Enhanced AutoPilot is a must if you’re buying a Tesla. I use it every time I drive and get so much use out of it. If you’re getting a non performance Model 3, I’d stick with the Aero wheels because of the slight range efficiency improvement plus you can easily take them off and reveal a nice looking rim underneath. When it comes to choosing the battery & motor, I’d choose the non performance Dual Motor just because of the 300+ miles of range without having to spend extra money for the performance. The dual motor all wheel drive will handle great and it’s plenty fast for almost everyone. I think the 300 mile barrier for range is one of the biggest advantages of the long range Model 3 which is why I chose the Long Range for mine.
Federal Tax Credit
(Disclaimer: I’m not a tax professional and this is not tax advice. Always consult a professional). The tax credit is like a discount on how much federal income tax you owe for the year you take delivery of your Tesla. Tesla's federal tax credit ran out at the end of 2019.
Prep & Delivery
$2500 down payment. Once VIN is assigned you can apply for loan
Delivery estimated anywhere between 4-10 weeks depending on your location & configuration
30 miles per hour of charge with NEMA 14-50 (most popular)
44 miles per hour of charge with Tesla Wall Connector
Driving & Charging
Charging at home (check w/ electric company to see about off-peak hours or special rates for electric vehicles)
Scheduled charging (I set mine at 80% limit for daily driving)
Supercharging for road trips (10,000 supercharges worldwide, recharge 170 miles in 30 minutes)
Plugshare & Chargepoint
Reduced range when driving above 65 mph, accelerating quickly & often, cold weather
Software & Touch screen
OTA updates
Driver profiles
Climate control
Navigation maps
Tesla account online; see supercharger history
Smartphone as key
Maintenance & Care
Comes with basic new vehicle warranty and battery warranty, specific to the type of battery you chose when configuring.
24/7 Tesla roadside assistance during warranty
Conclusion
#TeslaModel3 is a fantastic car, electric or not. After owning it for over 6 months it’s still the best car I’ve ever driven.

Please be sure to disclaim ABOVE any provided links that they are not only affiliated &/or referral links, but that YOU will be compensated if/when they are used. Merely stating over & over only what the consumer could get, is misleading. Knowing what weight/bias to place upon the opinions & amount of INFLUENCE given (stating any connection to or what the person sharing stands to gain) is precisely why consumer protection laws exist. Clearly stated in YT TOS as well as FTC guidelines.. John Smith from down the block should be able to watch & know whether or not they are being given an honest opinion for something 100% purchased out of pocket & w/ zero motivation behind it... If something was sent free &/or they were paid to promote ..... OR if it''s an honest opinion BUT there might be reason for the push of a quick(er) purchase, certain size of, etc. If there is something to gain by mentioning, linking, giving discount code etc. that has to be clearly disclosed. I mean, esp when only AFTER the fact, is it made crystal clear what was at stake (or 2 of, to be exact) it's just something that (along w/ the "get free supercharging" temptation that was sure to be mentioned) legally & morally, should have been disclosed all along from day 1. That goes for any Amazon affiliated links too, btw.. Above it, should state something like, "The following is an affiliate link, meaning I will receive a commission in return for any purchases made." #FTC Please be sure to make that update on the Amazon links going forward. (& the link to Tesla, which is still going to a referral landing) :) Just fyi (they've really been cracking down on things lately) It's the right thing to do regardless, but as a viewer AND consumer who enjoys your content... it would be greatly appreciated. ~Be well & btw, HUGE CONGRATS!!

CORRECTION: On a normal 120v outlet it's possible to charge the Model 3 at up to 5 miles of range per hour of charge, in which case charging for 12 hours overnight can potentially add 60 miles of range which can cover some people's daily driving. So not all people would need to install a NEMA 14-50 or Wall Connector even though those options are much more convenient and charge much faster than an normal outlet.
@daveriley6310
@daveriley6310 5 лет назад
Thanks for the correction. I was about to comment on the gross inaccuracy of the "not feasible - only 1 or 2, maybe 3 mile" quote. Having owned 6 plug-in cars including 3 Teslas so far, I have ONLY used 120v for my charging, except for accessing superchargers on road trips. Taking delivery of my 2nd Model 3 next week.

@goducgo
@goducgo 5 лет назад
Andy Slye I had two circuits available for a 14-50. Had 1 installed. Typically it takes about 4 hours to charge the longest was 8. I was down to 14% after a long road trip. Charged it to 90% (279 miles). It took roughly 50 kWh to charge. I charge during low peak times at night. I think our off peak rate is 22 cents/kWh. So it was close to 11 dollars. Coming up to the end of our free supercharging so I’m curious to know how much people are paying at the pump if you will. I saw 1.00 per/minute in FF, California. What a rip. If you live in a low cost for power state it will be much cheaper. We installed solar a couple years ago so it will help. That was one of the best investments I’ve made besides our Tesla. So much bang for the buck.

I bought an X, I drove all three, S, X and the 3, for the money, I honestly think the 3 is by far the best buy. Now I'm old and cripple so FOR ME, X was a better suit but driving the 3 was a blast, truly a wonderful car and I'm sure all buyers will love their model 3. I did get "FREE SUPER CHARGING" for life of the car "I own" the X, so X won out in my family but again I am old. I might buy a 3 later on. I have not ruled that out. We plan to travel so the X is better for traveling , carting a wheel chair etc. But I still loved the model 3

Another slight correction or caveat, this in not true for all states. I'm in Texas and, since Tesla is not licensed here, the representatives at the Showroom store cannot actually direct you to or help you with online ordering in the store (I even asked them). You have to order online on your own. Just FYI.

Hi Andy, thank you for such a great post on your Tesla model 3. I got one a month ago, and my husband and I also own the model S for 2 yrs now. And, when I got the car I left the delivery with hardly any information about what features it has, mostly because we have the model s. BUT, that was a huge mistake because it is not the same in so many aspects. So, I hadn't gone through knowing what I need to know, such as how to use the autopilot or how to open my charging port, the house charger we would press the button and the port would open but the 3 didn't I had to use my phone to open it. So, I decided to youtube how to drive my model 3. Dude, you answered all my questions and gave a real good description on lots of stuff I knew already but thanks for the information I didn't know. @@unprocessed_life Most cars I've seen have somewhat of a system of grooves set into where the trunk lid would sit when closed. This way, water is routed around the perimeter of the trunk opening, down the sides, and then flows over the rear bumper onto the ground. From comments I've seen, it seems the Teslas don't have that feature, so I imagine the water from the rear window will just flow like a waterfall into the trunk.

@@aslye The Model S or X charge rate is about 3mph. The Model 3 is much more efficient all around. Regardless of the car, I wouldn't charge with a 110 for long. @@Rhaman68 The Model 3 owner's manual lists no maintenance (other than tire rotations) until the end of the 2nd year. 2nd year service recommends brake fluid change. 4th year service recommends coolant change and brake fluid change. There's no other annual required maintenance like with the S and X. Also most common/minor issues can be fixed by a Tesla Mobile Ranger where the tech will come to the owner's home or work and fix the car on site so that the owner doesn't have to visit a service center.

Andy Slye Thanks but in a five year ownership 4 annual inspections at, what I read recently, $795 will add significantly to the cost. I have a 2011 Nissan Leaf and no such expensive inspections are needed. The annual Tesla inspection can only be done by Tesla. Those 4x $795= $3180. I would love a Model 3 but that expense is quite high and it needs to be revealed. Thanks

So on the 2017 Form 1040 (the 2018 one doesn't seem to be out yet), which is the federal individual tax reform, where your tax credit goes is on Line 54. This is AFTER your Tax amount is calculated and BEFORE your payments (what gets taken out of your paychecks if you work for someone). So as long as your Tax is 7500 or above, you can utilize all of the EV credit. Add on all of the payments your employer made and that can be a sizable refund. Again, I have to emphasize this is based on the 2017 Form 1040. In the current DRAFT 2018 tax return, the IRS seems to have heavily simplified the return so but the ordering above is still the same. Tax is calculated before credits and payments hit.

For those that care about the charging differences. As he mentioned in the correction below, you can get up to 5 miles using a 120V outlet at 12A. Using the Gen2 UMC supplied with the Model 3 and a NEMA 14-50 outlet, the car will charge at 32A at 240V which should give you around 28 miles of range or so each hour. Note that the Model 3 however can charge on Level 2 charging at up to 48A. Which means, using a Gen1 UMC from a Tesla Model S or X, you can charge faster, at 40A at 240V, or close to 38 miles per hour. If you need faster charging, this a cheap upgrade to the L2 charging at your house using the NEMA 14-50. The third option is to have an electrician install a Tesla HPWC. The HPWC is designed to charge at up to 80A, but the Model 3 maxes out at 48A as noted above. This means that using a HPWC at your house, you can charge at 240V and 48A, which charges your car at up to around 48 miles per hour. So, the HPWC is the fastest option for those that take frequent long trips and need to top up the car quickly again at home. Something to keep in mind as there are currently 4 charging options besides the Supercharger to charge your car, all with different charging speeds.

Fantastic video Andy. Very well narrated and the section breakouts help to understand which aspect of the car you are going to talk about. I am seriously considering buying this car vs a traditional car like Audi. On Tesla's Build Your Car section, I couldn't quite understand why the Dual Motor "Performance" is $11K higher than the "Long Range" other than just top speed and 0-60 pickup. Just for those 2, $11K seems atrocious. Thanks for posting this video.

hey man, good video. imo wall charging out of a 110/120v outlet is feasible depending on your distance traveled daily; if you're traveling > 60 to 70 miles daily then I agree with you but for me, my commute ranges anywhere from 28-40 miles a day, and i can recoup that via overnight 110/120v charging charging quite easily. When I got my M3 a few days back it was charging at 3mi/hr but I turned off cabin overheat protection and I've been humming along at 5 mi/hr. Generally if you come home from work and have anywhere from 10-14 hrs of uninterrupted charging time you could get 50-70 miles per night, and even if you don't, you can make up whatever charge you want to on a day of the week you don't go anywhere. Just my two cents

I have notice a lot lately when reading comments around the internet about the model 3 are complaints that Tesla charges too much for “this and that”. Did those people forget that this is a luxury brand? It’s the equivalent of a MacBook Air on four wheels. People expect to pay a premium when buying products that are cutting edge and of quality. Porsche is pushing to do a lot of the same things to keep up, but that experience will still cost you around $100,000 when they have it all sorted. I think having this much car for around 50K is right where they should be as far as progress toward the Affordable Tesla. (Before I get too much blowback, I know Apple’s blade is dulling, but you get the idea)...
@edwardz5975

@@SeanFrakes Well, that's what you think the way it should be. I don't think that is worthy to pay 5k for a sunroof that not only creates wind noise and a huge amount of heat in summer. Speaking of luxury, as a Land Rover owner, I don't want fake leather seats for 5k either.
