Tesla Model 3 Performance Pedals Install 

I put mine on with quite a bit of cursing and that seemed to help.

I found my wife’s hairdryer helped a lot to soften the rubber - warm it up for at least 30 seconds. Also for the accelerator pedal I would suggest fully slotting in one side (left) then pulling out the rest of the rubber over the metal of the pedal from left to right.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with sore fingers and frustration. Went away quickly after seeing the beautiful look... It's fun!

I’ve done this on 2 cars, incl the Model 3. Cut fingers and sore fingers each time. Definitely frustrating. It helps if you place the pedals in hot water to soften the rubber.

Destroyed my fingers today trying this and came on RU-vid to see if anyone else felt my pain. Not gonna lie, just glad I’m not alone. Gonna try soaking in hot water tomorrow

I put my covers (in the box) on the dashboard of my husband’s truck for an hour on a sunny, but cold, January day. I was prepared for a lot of struggle, as on the set I installed when I first got my car, but it took about two minutes. The first set had five lines but after Mike noted the OEM accelerator pedal has three lines, I had to replace them with a three line cover. Now I need to replace my dead pedal cover because it looks worn next to these new covers.

I’m sorry, but i bought and installed the exact same set, and put them on in 5 minutes with no hurt fingers in 4 ez steps: 1. Put the pedals in ziplock bags and put them in very hot water so they will be more pliable! 2. Slide on the brake piece onto the pedal from bottom to top. The bottom is more structured and so the top rubber parts have more room to bend round the pedal. Hold the top corners open by putting both ring fingers in the corners. Bend the top part outwards with the other fingers. 3. Slide on the go piece from right to left while holding the corners open with your index fingers, palms facing. This way you can bend the left ridge out with the other fingers. 4. Check the install and verify that the rubber goes all around the pedals. This is best done by sliding the selfie cam on your phone behind the pedals. Done! And plz do *not* use screwdrivers or others tools, as this will at best only damage the rubber, and hopefully not your hands. But damaging the rubber on the pedals can compromise safety also, so for me, the use of tools is a no go.

So I just did mine and with your help of understanding how to put them on I was actually able to do it in like 2 minutes lol difficulty scale of 1-10 for me was around a 2 in full transparency but I may have had a different brand and the rubber was more forgiving. Well the company I got them from was definitely different, but the manufacturer might be the same because the pedals look identical to what you had and the build quality feels terrific.

I just installed these, no problem with the brake pedal, the accelerator was more difficult; here’s a tip…lube the inside of the pedal cover with a small amount of dish soap. That allows it to slide on easier.

Glad to see you had as much trouble as I did. But they do look much better.

After watching someone else install them made it seem easier for knowing what to expect. I like mine on my Y. They look great.

I did it! I was si frustrated with mine before watching your video, but you proved it could be done. I was just methodical, got it in at the bottom first, then the left side, then peeled the rubber back with my fingers to get the right side.

I boiled mine in water on the stove for 3 minutes. Made the installation very easy. Also used a trim tools to assist with the installation. Another key is to slide the accelerator pad on from the top to the bottom.

Your comments about the difficulty aren’t exaggerated! I have some little jewelry pliers and they were very helpful in getting the rubber lips over the edges. But they look sharp and since I got them for nothing, worthwhile. Buyers need to beware of some insane prices for these and shop offshore.

The gas pedal performance pad just slides on from the bottom up. The back of the performance pedal pad has a channel it slides right over your existing pedal. Start at the bottom, align the channel and push in and up with a little pressure. It will slide right on.

Definitely worth the upgrade. They make the interior look 100% better. I used the RPM Tesla version and they claim the rubber on their version was more pliable and I must admit I did not have a problem at all and no blood.

It was helpful to see how tricky this was rather than working it out myself. But I was freaked out watching someone use a sharp screwdriver to do this. So dangerous. I soaked the pedals in almost boiling water for a few seconds, then put a little liquid soap around the inside edge of the rubber. I used one side of a broken clothes peg to lever them on, too. They went on MUCH easier!!

I heated up the rubber, attached the right side first, then used a small Allen wrench to kind of hook underneath and slide up the pedal to attach. Worked like a charm (once I thought of the Allen wrench)

Bought them on Amazon and they can today ... Can´t wait too change the pedals ! Thank-you the video Tesla guy .

Looks like I joined a large group with the same install experience. If I remember correctly, I think I drew blood also. Just a note. I also added the matching 'Dead pedal'.Not much more money, but it really dresses up the floor area. Also they say you don't install it with the rubber/plastic add-on floor mats. I did, again for the looks. No regrets.

The first 3 edges slide on easily. The fourth flap is firm unpliable rubber - it can be easily pried up with a small flat head screwdriver and pops into place. It’s a deceptive install only because the old pedals come off so easily. Takes 10 minutes and one beer. Still looks great 2 years later

I put the performance-like pedals on my 2021 Model 3 and I love them. My car is super fast💨 now 😂. Tesla is already fast. The pedals just look nice tho’. Soaked them in hot water before installing. Took about 20 mins to install them. Thanks for the video.

I put mine on over a year ago with the same frustrating problems you had but sure make it look sporty.Also the price has come down and as others have said heating them up in hot water would have helped in installing.

Definitely a challenge getting the go pedal cover on. I heated the rubber backing on both pedals with a blowdryer and used a bicycle tire tool to work the rubber edges on. Luckily, I didn't draw blood! But in the end, I do like the looks.

I did this job myself a couple months ago. Really struggled with the "go pedal" install. Was a royal PITA! Wish I knew then of the hot water trick.

Didn’t read all the comments, but soak them in hot water first...not too hot to loosen the glue. Also abstract ocean is the way to go. It lets you kind of just slide it one since the top has more of a gap.

Mounted mine today. Blood must be shown to 😁. Spent about 10 minutes at work, but had to bleed a little

Good job…I had the same problem you had getting them installed. The brake was easy but the go pedal was very very difficult. I set the go pedal in the sun for 1-2 hours before installation I thought it helped me a lot. I ended up with 2 cuts plus a bruise on the tip of my finger. At times I felt like quitting but I worked through it and got them on. I guess next I would install the go pedal first because that hurt the most and did not have a lot of room to work in. Anyway I love the look and I am glad I gutted it out. Thanks again for the video.

Soak pads in hot water with a dash of dish soap, add little bit of patience. Very good video!!!

Good job. I had same top fit Pedal replaced when I got my M3. I went through same difficulties as you did on the go pedal 😅

Super simple. Like putting an inner tube on a bike tire.. In fact I used one of those tire tools.

I just put on the Taptes version of these (in Red) to match my '21 LR #TeamRed. I found soaking each of the pedals in hot water for 10 minutes did the trick and softened the plastic just enough to make the install easy.

My experience was probably similar, brake pedal easy, accelerator challenging. All completed in 20 mins.. Well worth the effort. Probably the best value cosmetic improvement for SR+ owners IMHO

I purchased the identical pedals last month for my New Model Y. The brake pedal was easy. I gave up on the accelerator pedal after 2 sessions of 45 minutes each. Couldn’t get it on. Fingers sore and a little blood but no luck. Wait until the warmer weather and maybe a friend with stronger fingers to get after the accelerator pedal. So for the time being I have one chrome and one black. At least I’m unique.

I have 2021 model 3, i love looks of a proformace style . I added a carbon fiber wing and a Areo wheel kit . Charging the peddle is a choice that would be nails breaking. I have change my 1970 Dodge Challenger brake peddle was worn out after 50 years was very easy. I will attempt video soon. Thanks for all your video you done a good job . Francesca

I did not use hot water but put few drops of liquid soap around the edges and corner. The rubber became more elastic during installation and as the soap dried it became hard.

Perhaps the use of a mirror would help, I've seen you use some blue plastic pry bars on other mods, maybe that would have made life easier also working on the accelerator pedal, working from the right hand side that had the smaller flap eased in first. Here in the UK small screwdrivers fitted with either cross head or flat blades are called 'Dumpies," three to four inches from end to end, possession of one or two of these might have made your life a lot smoother. 😁

I saw a trick where someone used a paint can opener tool you can get free from Home Depot. Made it easy to put mine on.

Maybe you should make a Podcast about your Tesla and the other friends you are with or your wife. Your voice sounds like it is on the radio or on a podcast

Dont use a screwdriver, take an old spoon with an round end on the handle and bend the handle 1cm from the end 180 degrees back, so you can pry the lip easy without damage over the pedal. And the spoon shape sits comfortable and secure in your hand. On both pedals the left upper corner sits not properly, you can see it in the shots from behind (right upper corners from behind)

I cut my finger on the dead pedal because of the sharp ends. Took about 20 minutes to get the brake pedal on. The accelerator pedal was impossible, at least until I spent 20 minutes just stretching the rubber with my hands so it could better stretch. Then it went right on. Pain, but looks good.

FWIW using the hairdryer to heat the rubber worked much better than the water but maybe I didn’t wait long enough haha

I tend to prefer to drive barefoot so having a nice surface helps a lot!

That go pedal made me want to say forget it. No matter what the brand it's the same experience I think it's due to the curved pedal. I tried everything in the end top then right side then left side.

I added those same pedals to my model 3 long range and the go pedal was a monster!!! Not a fun process. I got it secure and stopped.

The brake pad went on easy but the accelerator pad was really tough. I got it on 90%, there was one corner at the top left I just couldn't get the lip on. After using screw drivers, pokers and other tools I finally gave up. I was only ripping ting pieces of the lift off, any longer there would not be a lip to go over the accelerator. If It falls off I will try it again.

Not watched the full vid yet but wonder if it would be easier if the covers (brake in particular?) were heated up with a heat gun or hair dryer beforehand?

I also bought my aluminum pedals from Amazon, but as I recall, they were a bit cheaper and actually look more like the OEM Performance Pedals (fewer rubber lines on each pedal). Installation was similar to yours...brake pedal was pretty easy, but the accelerator pedal did take some curse words and some more time. Overall, it's something nearly everyone compliments on when opening up the driver's door, and it looks great. I think mine also got me an extra 3 hp and a significantly faster 0-60 time ;) --Cintoman

Chuckling because I just installed these in my 2021 LR and had exactly the same experience. Had to quit twice with frustration and sore fingers. Just a note, that last left upper corner will actually go over the metal-I had the same thing happen. Had to use a mirror, light and small screw driver to lift it over the metal.

man i feel the pain, lol i was installing this and got blisters on my finger...stopped by to take a look get some ideas...hopefully few more try I can fit it!

yeah the stainless steel ones look better than the Aluminium ones.

In the Model Y 2023 from Berlin, this wont fit anymore. They have changed the metal of the break-pedal.

Gotta say, I just don't get the "performance peddle" I like the black ones they are easy to keep clean and they don't show every scuff like the shinny ones, meh!

I installed the Top light model, took 5 minutes with a little tugging and stretching.

Was really easy for me, when I took delivery the preformance pedals were already there.

I think you put the go pedal on upside down and that’s why you had difficulty installing it! Because I think it’s opened on one end and that should’ve been on top of the go pedal. Not really critiquing just an FYI and an observation.

ok now to educate another american put the pedals in hot water for 60 seconds, dry then put them on they are easy as when the rubber is softened up by the heat.

Everything is easier when you implement the correct techniques, these couldn’t be easier to put on you should’ve sat them in the sun warm up the plastic and then slide them on it would’ve been much easier. You could’ve even sat them in a pot of hot water that would’ve worked as well.

I bough the same kit but now I’m afraid to put them on lol. I thought I saw somewhere someone saying u def need to warm the go petal to soften it first.

The fit on this brand is too tight, of course don’t want a loose fit. Got the brake cover 95% by hand, need more rubber to get items to slide on easier.

it looks like the accelerator pedal has an open lip on one of the narrow faces. Was it possible to slip that cover on from bottom to top seating the sides? I have a very small pry bar from a trim project and some bladed spudgers (plastic tools) which might be useful

Read all comments for easier instructions before attempting this task. The manufacturer should include easy to install instructions with every order. Shame on THEM !
