This is all a first for me: Tesla, electric, and Turo. I spent a day with the Tesla Model 3 and I have some opinions.
While I respect what they are doing and making, one day with this thing really wasn't it for me. Maybe I need to live with it for longer, but I was surprised and not really in a good way. Feel free to change my mind in the comments...

Really cool how the center console has that curve from the back seat so there's some more space 5:10. The flat floor is stinking awesome. They need to make like a bench seat option for the front!! For drive-in theaters.

Great video. I’ve always enjoyed these type of videos where it’s someone’s first time. I drive a model 3 and enjoy it a lot. I definitely agree with the statement of it feeling like a device with all the tech. But I say to those concerned about all the feature that you don’t need to use it all. If you want it to be dumbed down, it can be. You get in, you drive then you charge when you need to. I think that’s a reason for the huge success with Tesla’s that to some degree then can be boring because they just WORK. With regards to your view on the accelerator pedal, you can change the way the regen works so that it coasts more like a traditional car. It would be interesting to see your thoughts on the other models like the Y, S and X. If you do have any questions feel free to ask. One thing I’ve seen within the Tesla community is that owners are more than happy to educate those new to the products. Sorry for the long comment but yeah appreciate the video

That’s awesome - I tend to lean towards cars that have a solid community and devoted owners. Tesla seems to be like that. I really want to experience more of them… maybe I’ll get another one going soon here! Thanks for watching.

If you turn down the Regen braking a lot more, then the car can still generate electricity when you're pressing the brake pedal right? If so it seems almost like Tesla could appeal more to traditional car drivers buy it putting their car in default low regen mode (while in town driving) because using the "brakes" like a regular car can still regenerate some power. But I'm sure this is a question for the Tesla engineers because I have no idea really. Maybe regen is only most efficient if done over a longer period vs all at once with braking (or it's not possible to capture the full braking force to regen)

16:08 I'm going to hypothesize that the echo is from all the glass, since I imagine glass is not as good as absorbing sound waves as the normal interior materials like carpet, plastic etc. since its more rigid, and it bounces the sound back. And it's like you're in a huge room with echo because the inside of the car is sealed so well. And that may be why recording studios have those foam (?) black pads on the walls to absorb echo and block outside noise.

13:12 One of the different but kind of unsettling things to me is that gas stations always have an employee around when they are open, and very bright lighting. But Tesla superchargers don't have an employee around, you can be totally alone, it seems almost more private yet exposed, and not as well lit. So you have to be careful of thieves or baddies lurking around or trust the other Tesla owner you're park next to a little bit more. You know you got to watch out for the Tesla driving serial killers right? But I think it's going to be a game changer if they could invent a contactless way to plug in and disconnect the charger. Maybe a stupid idea but what if there is a charging port on the interior and you can reach through the window and grab the cord and plug in there without getting out of the car. Might feel a bit safer being in a locked car you can easily drive away in, and the electric cord should have a safety disconnect. But I'm also just being too paranoid about safety I guess.

So I’ll go through from the beginning. 1. Those fans you hear running are to keep the battery cool/warm. At optimal temp. So instead of your gas car idling until it reaches optimal temp the Tesla does this while asleep. 2. The key card is hardly ever used. You use it to set up your phone key and then stick it in a safe place for backup. In the wallet maybe for emergencies. 3. The price of this car is nowhere near $50k. This car has been in production since late 2017. This version you’re in was likely $40k or less. Possibly even $35k since it was the lowest variance of the Model 3 that you rented. 4. Supercharging should only be done on long distance trips. Like 85-95% of charging is done at home over night. Wake up to a “full tank” every day. Also you shouldn’t really charge above 80-90% unless you’re going long distance. This helps with battery degradation. 5. No braking means your brakes don’t get burned up. Means your tires don’t get chewed up. Means you can recharge your battery while you drive. You learn to feather the accelerator and use one pedal driving. It’s way less stressful for me. 6. You want an EV without all the extras sounds a lot like “I just want a phone that makes phone calls. I don’t want to text. I don’t want an App Store. I don’t want the weather app. Or a camera in my phone”. If you don’t want to use those features, your kids will use them. Or just don’t use them. Those things don’t add cost. Those are just software. It’s not like you take your car into service so they can add them. They just get updated like your phone. Overall it’s nice to see you trying it but it’s way different than the ownership experience. It’s been the best, most efficient, most reliable car I’ve ever owned. It’s my family’s daily driver. Not to mention it’s literally the safest car on the road. So I keep my daughter in the Tesla every chance I get. Safety is first and I have that peace of mind knowing if anything happened my daughter will most likely be ok.

Thank you! Love to hear from owners. I just posted another ev video, if you’re interested. It’s all a new adventure for me, so I’m learning as I go.

Tesla should add a pin pad like Fords used to have to enter to car. Would really match the text theme😂

I like how the trunk lid opens up that high even though it's just a regular trunk 4:15 I'm guessing it's harder to hit your head on it that way

The credit card key thing is very weird. I mean I'd be scared I dropped it and unlike a keyfob that makes noise the card will just sneak away. Or I confuse it with a hotel key card😂. I guess this card doesn't have key hole anyway but if the battery is ever dead how do we get in.

20 years ago I believe Lexus gave owners a spare emergency key shaped like a credit card. The thin key was pryable from the credit card so the door can be opened

This is correct. It’s fit nicely in your wallet.

@@RubberCityMotoring That's really nice! If you had both a key fob and that card that would be great. Actually Tesla's website says something about certain regions having key fobs, but can they be added to our cars?

I never use the key card. It stays in my wallet or at home as a backup. My phone is the primary key for the key. I walk up and it unlocks and works via Bluetooth
