Might have misted it but will a Tesla cars accept new or different parts with out reprogramming computer on car. Do not know why but some car manufactures will not let a person swap aparts from different cars. Great video you sure work hard and make do with what you have.

Hi Duane, for most parts only a software update (reinstall) is required. During the update the software will automatically recognize and set up the new parts. Critical parts like the main computer is different and usually needs done by Tesla. Many manufacturers have vin coded electronics and require a dealer to program the part to the car. One reason is theft prevention. A simple thing like a stereo in a GM product is VIN coded. You can replace it and it will not work. If you have proper receipts for the part a dealer can program it for you. Besides theft prevention there are software issues, that is a common problem with legacy automakers. If certain parts are installed the software may not be compatible with what’s on the car and needs updated accordingly. Tesla parts are all programmed by Tesla only, not the different manufacturers of the parts, thus a Tesla software update will make most parts work. Now every Tesla can be put into Service Mode from the touchscreen and a software re-install can be requested in service mode. It only takes about 30 minutes from request until it downloads and the you can install from the screen. Thank you. Yes got make things work somehow.🤣 Thank you for watching 👍

I am impressed that you are willing to take on these types of projects without a garage to work in. I also cringe every time you get near the car with it precariously perched as it is. Admittedly, as I get older I find my level of risk gets lower. Still, nice work. 👍 In other news, I cancelled the order on my Lucid and purchased an Ioniq 6 SE. With 360 miles range, speedy DC fast charging and the fact it is a sedan (I like cars as opposed to SUVs and trucks), it offered me the range I was looking for and I was able to save a considerable amount of coin at the same time.

Thank You. It is actually safe what I do, it just looks kinda weird with that strap and the 2 floor jacks. But just one of those floor jacks can hold the weight of the entire car. In this case the front wheels were even sitting on large wood blocks just as they would sit on the ground. And if one floor jack would fail the 2nd one holds the car up no problem. No Lucid!😪 I like the Lucid, looks good and seems to be overall a good car. But it is a lot of 💰💵. Now that said the Ioniq 6 looks great and is much easier on the wallet. I really like that car and totally understand that you switched. If we would be in the market for a sedan I would totally go for it. All I can say congrats, good choice👍.

@@RMTFamily Actually, I understand and could see that the car is quite well supported. Maybe it really is just my hatred of crawling around on my hands and knees and working on my back on a car, that is my real problem. LOL Realistically, when I ran the numbers, by the time I added up everything on the Lucid when compared to the Ioniq 6, it saved me at least $40,000. That is nothing to sneeze at since I am a retiree. I also never finance anything, so even though I had the cash on hand to buy the Lucid, the equation changed considerably once the Ioniq 6 entered the market. It ticked all the check boxes I determined for a car. ✅Sedan ✅ 800v architecture (meaning faster charging. ✅Around 400 miles range (361 per EPA test)

Thank You. It sure makes it harder in the backyard. Would love to have a garage with a decent floor. But I guess I can't have everything🤣 Thank You for watching👍

Dont have a electric car but i'd like to. Because of old mother earth all that, but the more I learn its because the straight forward mecanics. Love your content all the way from Sweden.

Thank you. Yes, electric cars are much simpler than todays ICE vehicle and so much healthier for Mother Earth 🌍. In Sweden you should have it a little easier to get into an EV. As more manufacturers are selling EV’s in Europe than the U.S. I know Norway is the leader in EV adoption. How is it in Sweden? BTW I love Sweden, Its been 27 years since I visited Sweden. But it was amazing. I hope to visit again. Thank you for watching 👍

There is alot of EV car brands here. We had a ca 7000 dollar bonus on EVs but sadly its removed. But more and more people have started buying EV. The used market is still quite over prized but is slowly getting better for us looking at used ev cars.

I really had to laugh Mike when you said you’re a tech, so you just drive it till it breaks. But now that your daughter is driving, I bet you keep an ear out for things a lot more.

Avoid buying these out of factory 8yr 150k warranty these are worth about 10k dollars out of factory warrany.
@RMTFamily
@RMTFamily 10 месяцев назад
These cars currently run between 20 and $30,000. There is no reason that one shouldn’t buy one when it’s out of factory warranty. They last way longer than that. And even out of factory warranty they’re cheaper to maintain and repair than a ICE vehicle.
@thayalansuntharalingam

@@RMTFamilyRepair like you are doing a 10k repair plus battery replacement 15k that's 25kplus purchase price of 20k equals 35k to 45k you buy a nice Model y or model3 with plenty of factory warranty left you don't need to worry about repairs!
@RMTFamily
@RMTFamily 10 месяцев назад
@@thayalansuntharalingam your numbers are quite a bit off. I didn’t need a battery replacement. I just had a battery pack available and it was easier to swap the whole pack rather than just replacing contactors inside a pack. Contactors at Tesla are $1700. And the drive unit at Tesla is $6000. so the total amount that I would have put in if I would have had Tesla do it is only $7700. so if Tesla would’ve done it, then I would have invested $7700, if I would have had another shop do it, it probably would have been more like $5000. But because I have done it myself, it’s even below that. most EV’s never even need a high voltage battery replacement. Even on these Model S most of them have maybe one bad cell or have bad corroded connections or something easy to replace. Tesla just does not repair battery packs and thus always quotes a complete battery pack replacement, which is usually not necessary. But pack repairs can be done at many EV repair shops for about three to $6000. A Model 3 or Model Y certainly does not have the space that a model S has. Also, especially these older have a huge frunk that you can’t find in any newer Tesla anymore. And there is always the option to buy extended warranty from anyone not just from Tesla.

@@RMTFamily If tesla can do drive unit and contacter for 7700 parts and labour expensive not bad.How many miles on your model s and 2017 and newer face-lift models are getting cheaper and should have better build battery pack and drive units.

Battery pack improvements are minor in Model S and X to this day. They are the same layout with modules, same physical size with same quick connects for low, high voltage and coolant. The improvements are in the individual cells. The cell size is still 18650 but the "Magic Sauce" inside changed. 2019 is when things started to improve on the battery pack side in regards to charging speeds as well as energy density. If one is looking for a way improved Model S, compare to a 2013, than it has to be at least a "Raven" that went into production in 2019. It is very hard to compare one Model S to another, due to the continuous changes that Tesla implements. The same rear drive unit was used for a while from rear wheel drive to performance AWD, but not in non-performance all wheel drive. Our drive un it lasted for 200,000 miles! Without any repairs along the way! Also the contactors made it to about 198,000miles. That is huge compare to an ICE vehicle. I'm not afraid to buy a high mileage EV, actually I rather buy a high mileage EV than a comparable ICE vehicle. The key word is comparable. Many ICE vehicles in that class have many problems, usually many more. But it is up to each individual what they prefer. You may prefer newer still under warranty vehicles while others don't care or can't afford vehicles like that. Either way is a good way! There are people needed to buy new so that other people can buy used.

Good work and good explanitions 👍 My -2014 is at Tesla now , got an estimate today on changing DriveUnit and a few chassisparts. Only 10500 dollars 😂 Looking to try a salvaged DU instead😊 Greetings from Norway 🇧🇻
@RMTFamily
@RMTFamily Год назад
Thank you. “Only” 10.5k 🤣🤣🤣 If you get a used/salvaged DU make sure to pull the speed sensor on the motor side to check for moisture before you buy. If there is moisture that DU has an internal coolant leak. I suspect there is someone in Norway that rebuilds these DUs? In the US they are little cheaper than from Tesla. Thank you for watching 👍 Let me know how it turns out please.
