Model 3/Y Refrigerator, Sub-trunk: a.co/d/bZXzEuk (“vegastesla” for 10% off)
In this video I review the fridge designed for the Tesla Model Y that is perfect for camping and long road trips, made by Chery Industrial.
It is pricey, but you truly get what you pay for. As far as a fridge or freezer for a Tesla goes, this is just about perfect. If you are an avid camper or road tripper like us, this is an essential accessory.
It fits perfectly in the sub-trunk of the Model Y or Model 3, although the coolers are different sizes for each vehicle. It stays cool, even when it’s not in use, and it is super easy to use.

Nice review, thanks! Glad you pointed out the ventilation needs& solution w/ included spacers, important for fridges, can't put in enclosed space or all the moved heat will cook the fridge electronics. I thought I saw a light on the right inside? Confirm? That is a nice feature, as even though trunk has lights, factory isn't bright, and won't reach inside the subtrunk. Also, how long is the 12v cord? Will it reach to Model 3 center console (since it doesn't have 2nd 12v in rear?) Does it work on 15V for newer lithium low-volt battery Teslas?
@vegasteslafamily
@vegasteslafamily 3 месяца назад
Hey! Yes there is a light on the inside! The 12v cord is plenty long to reach the outlet in the trunk of the Model Y. They also sell a variant for the Model 3 - I believe it is smaller and long enough to reach the console for the 3.

Thanks for this video! One thing i'm still confused about.. does it only stay on when the Tesla is on? So say.. while you are driving or in camp mode. But once the tesla is locked, the 12v is off and the fridge is off?
@vegasteslafamily
@vegasteslafamily 3 месяца назад
It will turn off when the car turns off. The insulation will keep the things inside cold overnight easily though

@@vegasteslafamily also how hot does this run since it’s enclosed in the sub-trunk. I tried another type of 12v fridge in my sun-trunk and the vents area got pretty warm to the touch. Just not sure how it’ll be affected in the long run.

I have read that the 12V outlet in the trunk area of the Model Y will stay energized if you have Sentry Mode on; I will have to verify this. Thank you for showing that for proper ventilation of the unit, the trunk floor lid truly needs to be raised by installing the spacers; I've seen RU-vid reviewers who did not install the spacers! Refrigerators will overheat and not last long if enclosed in a space not much bigger than the unit itself without ventilation.

I just watched the first 20 seconds, and I'm going to guess that the Con was the access to the fridge is blocked off the moment you put luggage over the panel in your trunk. So basically you still need to have drinks in the car, and the cooler is only accessible once you're unpacked and settled unless you really don't have much in the trunk. Its counter defeating because how many cases would you need to load a full cooler with an empty trunk?

Do they sell an inverter that would let you take it out and plug into a 120v outlet?
@vegasteslafamily

@@chi027 they in particular do not. I’m curious if a 3rd party one would work though.

That’s an amazing fridge. I just ordered one. How was the range with it plugged in? I’m doing a trip from California to Idaho. I’m a new Tesla owner , and this is my first trip in it. I’m scared of the cost since on a full charge I only get like 180 miles at 70mph
@vegasteslafamily
@vegasteslafamily 3 месяца назад
Nice! And congrats! That is plenty of range - keep in mind that's about 2.5 hours of driving. The fridge uses such little battery. Honestly, the 35lbs extra in the car may cause more battery loss than the fridge plugged in - which is nothing, but puts it in perspective a bit. If it's in use for 24 hours, it may use 3-5 miles of range over that 24 hours.

how do you access the fridge with all your luggage and gear on top of it? So if you're at a rest stop, you just unload then grab a few bottles and repack? do you leave it plugged in while overnight camping? How's the drain on the battery? minimal? Why not just put emergency essentials at the bottom and run a normal cooler on top? Ice doesn't drain the battery and you can access the cooler whenever you make a stop.

@@masonlee5453 answered all these questions in this video and our recent road trip videos. You're welcome to watch if you are genuinely curious. But yes, if the car is fully packed. However, ours was not packed to the rim. Not in use when car not on (explained in this video) Drain on battery is minimal (explained in video and also in previous comment)

LoL wtf, you didn't even mention the actual Cons. The biggest con is Power consumption, it's one thing when the car is driving. When you're camping overnight, then what? its just draining the car? Also, why would you want to wheel it around? It's a Fridge, not a cooler, how would you power this thing once you wheel it away from a power source. Nah bro, stick to ice. It doesn't drain your battery, If you're on a long road trip you can intentionally freeze a dozen bottles of water along with your unfrozen bottles so it stays cold for much longer along with the crushed ice. When the ice melts you can always use that water to wash hands or wet a rag. At best this item is good for picking up salmon at Costco and keeping it as fresh as possible on the way home. But not for 700.00 unless you hate money. You're way better off using that bottom compartment for emergency things, gloves, flare, duct tape, first aid, toilet paper, etc.... You're actually not getting more space by hiding a cooler down there. Instead, just swap it out with things you need but don't need to access often. This is like putting your fridge in the garage and saying look how much more space we have in the kitchen now. Nah, bro, this was a bad purchase. That cooler you showed with the wheels is like 50 bux and a bag of ice is 1.00 at sam's club. even at two bags thats still over 300 fill ups before you break 700 bux.

@@TonyMiguel-ko7cz I’m not sure how long this would keep ice for but it’s very well insulated. Kept things very cold overnight without it being plugged in
