LaTough Tesla to J1772 charging adapter review and test with my 2022 Kia EV6. This EV charging adapter works great with my Kia EV6 needing to special procedure or workaround, unlike some others. I was able to just plug it into my new Tesla Mobile Connector EV charger and plug it into the car and it immediately started charging. This works as well as the Tesla Tap at half the price, which is awesome. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!

We are quite fortunate in the UK and Europe were Tesla and Other EV brands all share the same charger ports so it’s all interchangeable without the need for an adapter. The way Tesla kept their super chargers was through software but now some of them have been opened up for anyone to use.

Yeah you guys are fortunate. Over here many manufacturers are now switching to NACS (Tesla) so adapters for early CCS cars will be around for some time.

@@TechnicallyJeff interesting how Tesla has managed to win the connector battle in North America against all the other manufacturers and how in Europe and est of world we’ve all adopted Type 2 connectors. This ends up adding costs for all manufacturers who need to support different ports for charging in different markets.

I think I would need more testing before committing to an off brand adapter like that. Any chance for a longer, full charge session review? Maybe some FLIR analysis?

I charged from about 45% to 80% with no issues and didn't feel warm. I don't have any infrared cameras personally.

Confirmed working on EV9 as well! Pulling 7.2kw from mobile connector and 9.0kw from wall connector.

Bought this plug after seeing this video and tried it with my Tesla Mobile connector using the 110v plug. I still had to use the work around. Sending it back as I already had one that also needed the work around.

Have you had all the recent updates? VCU, ICCU, BMS, etc? I wonder if one of those updates corrected the issue.

I have not so that is possible. I'm scheduled to go in on the 8th so I'll hold the return until after and retest. I would love to have a mini that just worked as well so I may try the other one you just posted. Thanks for all the tips!@@TechnicallyJeff

Hi Jeff, in Europe, the KIA EV6 (and all cars made in 800 V platform) have a problem with Tesla SUCs. They only charge at around 100 kWh in v2, but only around 45 kWh in v3 and v4. Does it happen the same in the USA? Does that carging adapter fix this problem? Regards from Spain.

Hey! Yes in the USA we have the same issue. It's due to the software on the superchargers. Since they EV6 requests 800v it thinks there's an issue and doesn't deliver full power. Supposedly an update is coming. The EV6 should be able to charge around 125 kW. As for the adapter, this one is just for level 2 (destination chargers, home chargers).

Are there any adapters for Tesla superchargers? It would be very useful if at the mall or grocery story instead of being limited to charge at home

There's this one - a2zevshop.com/products/nacs-ccs1?ref=TECHJEFF&variant=43186507579592 - but it only works as vehicles are able to use superchargers (currently only Ford and Rivian I believe, but obviously more are coming). Promo code TECHJEFF saves you 5% btw.

Why didn't your car say "Charging Started" when you plugged in?

It took a few seconds after it was plugged in and actually said it right as I was going in the window. The voiceover makes it so you can't hear it though. But it was right after the ding sound.

Stupid question. can you use it at a Supercharger to charge at level 2 speeds (obviously not going to "supercharger" over j1772.

No stupid questions. Unfortunately no. There are currently no adapters that work at superchargers (no way to initiate the charge). It only works at level 1 and 2 chargers like home chargers, destination chargers, etc.
