@@zolavib1187brakes almost never because of regenerative braking (my previous EV had 40,000 miles and like 10% brake pad wear), a small amount of gearbox oil (doesn't have a transmission) and brake fluid at 150K miles. What happens when the batteries go bad it stay losing their range. Buy a cell phone the battery lasts 2 days, 6 mts. later you have to charge twice a day. Batteries suffer with every discharge/charge cycle. Blow a gas motor, replace for 5k. Blow your batteries who's putting in 20k into a 6+ year old vehicle? What happens to all the old EV's? They will become worthless because of battery replacement costs. Not to mention millions of mechanics out of a job and millions of diyers that can't afford to pay for maintenance or issues. Friend had his Tesla totaled for a small fender bender because they said it potentially caused damage to the battery. Auto insurance only covered him for a portion of the purchase price, want his fault, rear-ended. Corporate greed is the only one winning. Trying to get control of everyone by switching to electric meanwhile city council is telling me to limit ac usage during 100° days because the grid cannot handle it. Wtf? What am I missing?
@Jetjockgordo
@Jetjockgordo Год назад
@@juiced66lac first EV batteries don't "go bad" like disposable AA's or laptop batteries after 5 years. EV batteries are thermally controlled and normally last the lifetime of the car of 300,000 to 400,000 miles with only a small loss of range. Second, the battery systems of EV's are modular and can be reconditioned or repaired component by component if ever needed. If the battery control module detects a fault in module 5 for example, the module is taken offline and can be replaced for $600-$1200. Third, they can be recycled.

So true. There was a powerful movement against the adoption of gasoline (ICE) vehicles. In the earliest days they were unreliable, very hard to start, hard to find places to refuel them, very expensive and often referred to as toys for rich kids (sound familiar?). The gasoline vehicle was a serious threat to several large and well-established industries like veterinarian services, feed, grain and hay providers, blacksmiths, leather goods industry, buggy and cart makers, etc... These industries went to war with the internal combustion engine which they often referred to as "that infernal gasoline engine". Despite the fact that they were noisy, smelly and generally filthy machines, gasoline vehicles were cleaner than employing beasts of burden. Americans, especially those living in cities or towns, have largely forgotten what it was like to have their locations visited each day by hundreds, if not thousands of horses and or oxen. They've forgotten the literal TONS of manure that had to be removed from city streets and moved to collection areas. They've forgotten the fecal matter and 10's of thousands of gallons of animal urine that collected in storm drains creating breeding grounds for infectious diseases like Cholera, Hepatitis and Dysentery among others. They've forgotten the pervasive stench associated with using beasts of burden especially the corpses of those animals that died everyday. Now it's the internal combustion engines turn to come under the microscope and take its turn in the proverbial barrel.

The Plaid's party piece is its ability to boogie out of the hole compared to other cars, but this built Hellcat on the prepped surface had that sorted as well. Sad watching people try to make expensive ICE vehicles do what they really aren't designed to do. Making a high-performance ICE vehicle "hook-up" like that will never be conducive to long life. A nine second or faster ICE vehicle has to push huge torque and Hp numbers through a drivetrain that includes a multi-speed transmission and differential. The design of which will never be as robust as that of an EV especially in a production car. To keep a nine second or faster ICE vehicle track ready every week will require a team of mechanics and an owner with deep pockets. That Tesla can drag race 15 times everyday, 365 days a year for several years and never need to open the hood. LOL, you'd be lucky to get through one weekend of drag racing with a high-performance ICE without needing to repair or replace something expensive. You'd spend more time under the hood than you would behind the wheel.

And Pete forbid something break, then you'd need to replace that part at a specialized repair shop, where with an ICE, you just roll into the mechanic. Far more expensive to repair an EV. Not to mention battery replacements and tires because they weigh a lot more. ICE vehicles have been racing and pushing their limits longer than you've been pooping on this earth, so I would say they definitely are designed to go fast.

Chill out. EVs have moving parts, but far fewer. Percentage-wise, there are far fewer EV fires than ICE car fires. Tesla batteries are under warranty for 8 years or 150K miles. There are scads of Teslas running around with half a million miles on the batteries. You don't know what you're talking about.

Its almost dumb that most of these gas cars even try racing these teslas. All of the power in electric cars goes straight from the batteries to the wheels which makes it pretty difficult for any gas car to beat becauseof all the mechanical parts in a gas car to get the power from engine to wheels.

Ehhh, sorry, that is wrong. It is the Plaid. The other option is the Long Range, and it won't do a quarter mile in the 9s. No big wing comes stock, the hoods are the same, and I'm sure that blue Tesla has the Plaid badge on the back.

Does the Tesla need a parachute since it's going under 9.5 sec? Or does that only apply to ICE? I bet the Tesla has a crazy regen braking force.

@@trythis2821 Purple hat, cooling vanes. That looks like the Easy Big Fella setup from Mountain Pass Performance, which I also have. I have the stock calipers with street/track pads from Unplugged Performance. Additionally, I had the front brake dust covers cut off -- they interfere with heat dissipation, which MPP proved. Works very well on the drag strip, much better than stock. At Willow Springs where I race, the shutdown area is very short so I stomp the brakes. You still get the brake overheat warning after a couple runs in close succession, but that's not based on measured temperature. The car makes a calculation, which is wrong for my brake setup. So I ignore it. By the way, my name is Michael McKown, car's name is Pippi Plaidstocking. I was just too damn lazy to change my Google account in answering. 🤣

@@trythis2821 I tried answering earlier but I don't see my comment. All right, it looks like the brakes are the Easy Big Fellas from Mountain Pass Performance. Air vanes and the purple hat. I have the same setup on mine. I still have the stock calipers (now painted red) but the pads are street/track from Unplugged Performance, along with stainless brake lines and upgraded brake fluid. I also had the front dust covers cut off. MPP proved they retain heat. If I run 2 or 3 times in quick succession, I still get a brake overheat warning, but that doesn't come from actual temperature measurement; it's a calculation the car makes, and it doesn't apply to upgraded brakes, so I ignore it. Looks to me like that Tesla is also running Martian forged wheels. BTW, Julian Jacoby is a BS name I use mostly for my Google Voice account. I'm just too lazy to change account names when answering here. Real name is Michael McKown and my car is: Pippi Plaidstocking. I have my own racing channel, check it out. Latest video is 40 minutes of fun at Willow Springs International Raceway. It is: mike's tesla model s plaid drag racing channel. Merry Christmas! 😎
